  1. Thank you for the Tuesday report, Rich. It's probably also Leftover Day (unofficially) in Canada. No idea what Ada Lovelace Day is. I think today will be a Party day for many on the Nieuw Statendam. A special cheer to Camila and Elliott Rose on the Day of the Girl Child. Very good advice from Dressen. Been to Half Moon Cay just once, my first port of Call on the Koningsdam. Not sure about the meal. My alternative is Chilled Mango Gazpacho, Chateaubriand, and Carrot Cake A la Mode as served on MS Amsterdam October 11, 2017: Today’s care list: Vict0rian’s cousin in final stages of ALS Quartzite Cruiser DH surgery Rough night for Tana Horrific damage from Ian Western wildfires Tthose in Fiona’s wake Long term power outage for jimgev From the rotation: HAL Sailer Sister in Law with aggressive cancer therapy Marshhawk’s friend Jesse with throat cancer Status of St. Louis Sal (7/1), msmayor (5/20) and JAM37 (7/7) Heartgrove brother in hospice and appearing to be nearing final days Celebrations and Shoutouts: Zaandam on Grand Voyage Cruzin Terri in Barbados to 10/17 Rowsby in Hawaii until 10/28 4 Days for Av8rix (Rotterdam 10/15 to 10/30) Gail&Marty (Rotterdam to 10/15), Oceansaway17 (Oasis OTS to 10/16) Cruising-Along(11/5), dfish, NextOne, Richwmn, Live4cruises, SharoninAz (Nieuw Statendam to 10/22), MissG (Oosterdam to 10/22), HAL4NOW (Koningsdam to 10/24), and AncientWanderer (Nieuw Amsterdam to 10/25) Cunnorl (Noordam 10/8 to 1/2/23), Dismomx5 (Rotterdam to 10/27) , and Horizon Chaser1957 (Zaandam 10/1 to 12/20; Zuiderdam 12/22 to 5/12) at sea Staff Captain Sabine - Our first female Staff Captain and HAL’s likely first female Captain(I know this is a repeat but she’s worth it) Roy
  2. That game was too late for me (didn't even know the outcome until this morning) but is certainly a welcome change from the 2 last quarter collapses. I hope this becomes the new normal. Roy
  3. That Traditional Thanksgiving Turkey sounds like a winner. Roy
  4. My October 10 sunrise is another from one year ago on Crystal Serenity's Panoflex webcam. On October 10 Serenity was preparing to back into the dock in Bimini: Roy

  6. Thank you Rich for the Thanksgiving/Columbus/Indigenous People's Day report. I wish we did a little more here to encourage metrics; it's presently a very chilly 4C here today but going up to 20. I got a bit of a chuckle out of the Rowling quote. Been to Hilo once on Crystal Symphony, way back in 2010. No idea what the meal is. My alternative is Chilled Mango Gazpacho, Rustic Home Made Lasagna, and Cherry Crisp as served on MS Amsterdam October 10, 2017. 9. Thank you for the Sunday report, Rich. My favorite of today's days of course is National Fire Prevention Day. I celebrated Leif Erickson in 2000 on a land tour to Newfoundland celebrating his arrival 1000 years earlier. I can't think of any curious events right now but certainly I've had some. Not sure what to make of the quote. I visited Bassetere once, in 2018, on the Grandeur of the Seas. The meal sounds a bit too spicy for my taste. My alternative is Chilled Peach Soup, Traditional Thanksgiving Turkey, and Apple Tart (I assume Canadian Thanksgiving was likely that day), as served on MS Amsterdam October 9, 2017: Today’s care list: RIP Loretta Lynn 10/4/22 Vict0rian’s cousin in final stages of ALS Grapau27 awaiting joint Doctor visit Monday and Quartzite Cruiser DH surgery on Tuesday Horrific damage from Ian Western wildfires Tthose in Fiona’s wake Long term power outage for jimgev From the rotation: Cruisin Terri leak damage Strength for luvteaching’s friend Karen after Wayne’s 9/3 death Sandi’s neighbor Linda Cruising-along niece awaiting a kidney Celebrations and Shoutouts: 1 day to first BHB in Everglades Cruzin Terri in Barbados to 10/1 and enjoying the beach finally 1 day for MissG Oosterdam 10/10 to 10/22) Bon Voyage Oceansaway17 (Oasis OTS 10/9 to 10/16) lazey1 starting to feel better with collagenous colitis treatment Rowsby in Hawaii until 10/28 LoveTheBeach (Adventure OTS to 10/8), sailingdutchy (Oosterdam to 10/10), Gail&Marty (Rotterdam to 10/15), Cruising-Along(10/29), dfish, NextOne, Richwmn, Live4cruises, SharoninAz (Nieuw Statendam to 10/22), HAL4NOW (Koningsdam to 10/24), and AncientWanderer (Nieuw Amsterdam to 10/25) Cunnorl (Noordam 10/8 to 1/2/23), Dismomx5 (Rotterdam to 10/27) , and Horizon Chaser1957 (Zaandam 10/1 to 12/20; Zuiderdam 12/22 to 5/12) at sea Staff Captain Sabine - Our first female Staff Captain and HAL’s likely first female Captain(I know this is a repeat but she’s worth it) Roy
  10. Naked fries are just as they come from the fryer. As opposed to a special Dive-In sauce or "Smothered in Melty Cheese Sauce". Roy
  11. Just a thought for those with trouble with many emails. I do do an occasional email listing of certain threads or forums (update once a day or once a week) but never do notifications. Instead, I have a link that gets me a listing of my current subscribed threads that I check periodically: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/discover/623 Roy
  12. Today's sunrise is from one of my more unusual combinations. It started with a voyage on New York's Erie Canal System and the St. Lawrence Seaway from New York to Montreal and a return to New York on the Crystal Symphony. On October 8, 2011 Blount's Grande Mariner had reached the end of the Erie Canal system at Oswego, New York. Roy

  14. Wishing you pleasant and on time trains. I do wish VIA ran direct trains Toronto and Ottawa to Quebec instead of segmenting everything in Montreal. Roy
  15. Thank you for the Saturday report Rich. I'll pass on the motorcycle, salute Universal Music and played touch tag about 70 years ago.. I love the Emerson quote but have not been to Vladivostok. The meal sounds nice although I'll wait a bit for @0106 to weigh in. My alternative/complement is Naked Fries from Dive-In as served on MS Amsterdam October 8-9, 2017 (we crossed the International Dateline that day). Not particularly proud of the lists today. It was a late night last night (Baltimore Symphony) and I overslept today. I would normally say Welcome Home @MISTER 67 but I'm not sure if he extended or has any power or water if he does head back home. 16. MS Renaissance (nee Maasdam) has arrived at what appears to be a shipyard in Brest. Still no real information on the company but I've heard they hope to start cruises in February. Roy
  17. I have been to Dawson City twice, both times in conjunction with land-sea itineraries. I have no photos but a couple of stories from the 2002 trip. It was primarily with a Canadian company that started by flying to Inuvik and then traveling the Dempster Highway to Dawson City and onwards to Skagway where we boarded the Zaandam for a 4-day cruise to Vancouver. I'll start with our visit to Diamond Tooth Gerties (photo from 2018): As we were leaving the performance at Gerties and returning to our hotel I noticed a couple ahead of me with familiar looking sweatshirts. It turned out to be my County Executive, the Chief of a nearby Fire Department, and their wives (both wives were active in the fire service). They had been on a HAL land tour and were also headed to the Zaandam. We saw each other several other times before reaching Vancouver. I was the only American in a bus full (about 20) of Canadians on the trip. I enjoyed their hospitality as we participated in the Canada Day celebrations in Whitehorse. We continued the next day to the Zaandam, and it became my turn to be host as we visited Ketchikan on July 4. I had come armed with some US souvenirs for the occasion. My second time was my 2018 Grand Alaska trip. I disembarked Volendam in Skagway and started overland to the Yukon, Denali, and finally the Westerdam back to Vancouver. A highlight of my time there was of course the Dawson Fire Museum: SS Keno was closed for renovation but still stately. There is little crime in Dawson. What few trials there are are actually done in a room in the Dawson Museum: Finally, change tends to be slow in the far north. I spotted this in the fire museum and learned that the number had only been changed about 2017: Roy
  18. Actually, for most trips I am fine with Business Class on regular trains which are more time on the rails but equally civilized. The one time I do spring for Acela First Class is when returning from a cruise; not so much for the train itself but Moynihan Train Hall has an upper level lounge with nice snacks and very luggage storage and it's available only to sleeping car passengers or Acela First Class. Roy
  19. Today's sunrise is the last from my 2012 Crystal Symphony 7-day cruise out of Montreal. On October 7 we returned to Montreal: Roy
