  1. Over the hill??? Ive met you and your lovely wife and you are certainly not over the hill! I’m older than you , did my last Camino, the Camino Ingles, in 2019 and other segments in the years prior . You just need to do a little endurance training and would be good to go! You shouldn’t give up on it
  2. Pilgrims arrive every day to Santiago, I’ve done it 4 times. They swing the Botafumeiro on special occasions or when someone or a group of people contribute 300 euros, nowadays is mostly every day at least during one of the masses, it’s quite a spectacle. Santiago is a very special place and it’s Cathedral is awe inspiring
  3. Never been in that situation, sounds unpleasant
  4. I’m wondering, how’s your “ personal space” defined? Has it been defined? Really,if you’re bothered by any of this a cruise is not for you. And I don’t mean just because of Covid, I mean because there have always been communicable diseases on cruises. If I get a bad cold , Covid, or whatever on my upcoming Splendor cruise I’m not planning to come here and making a big announcement, it’s nobody’s business
  5. I think that as part of the benefits they give you a $200 onboard credit or something like that to be used on the current cruise. Just be aware, If you later cancel the cruise you booked onboard they’ll claw back the $200 from the refund of the deposit
  6. Has nothing to do with masks. I was referring to the fact that the ship staff is discussing the passengers medical condition apparently in the hallway, within earshot of a passerby. Not cool
  7. Yeah, “buzz word” is the correct description…
  8. Frankly, I wish they wouldn’t. I have been cruising for over 50 years and had to deal with hacking coughs next to me in the lounge, bus and restaurant and there were no general announcements about it. This is an airborne virus , so it is what it is. Closing the library or the buffet is not going to curtail it
  9. Last time I took a transatlantic was a few years ago Rome to Miami. The following year I flew back to Rome via Madrid. While doing EU immigration in Madrid an overzealous agent took me to task because he could see in my passport a stamp for entering the EU the prior year, but not one for exiting. I explained that I had taken a transatlantic cruise back to the US and my passport had not been stamped when exiting the EU. He even called the supervisor and both proceeded to interrogate me . They finally let me go, the whole thing was very nerve wracking, I almost missed my connection.
  10. Im on your same cruise. Im sure theyll let us know prior to arriving SJ. What’s your concern?
  11. Interesting… I travel with one way tickets to and from Europe all the time and have never been asked this. I would think the Regent ticket / invoice should suffice
  12. The 750 pp comes to $375 per night. That time of the year is low season in Madrid and you would pay much less per night on your own for those hotels . A quick look tells me it’s around $100 for the hotel in Zaragoza and $200 for your hotel in Madrid. It sure doesn’t sound as a “ free land program “ to me
  13. Looking at the day by day Marc posted it doesn’t look as if you will be spending much time in a Madrid, other than sleeping, a shame as Madrid is a fabulous city
  14. Frankfurt, I would say 3 hours, but my last experience was about 12 years ago Madrid I go often, airport is huge, if you’re flying AA or Iberia that use terminal 4s to arrive, then you transfer by train to terminal 4 for intra Europe, I would say 2.5 minimum. Of the US airports you mention I would pick Newark
  15. Agree! Also, why would Regent charge $75 again, these are not the flights you agreed to
  16. 😂😂 I think this thread has outlived its usefulness, hope someone can put it to sleep soon!
  17. Apparently it’s changing to 7am eastern time later this month
  18. Please share your insights here once you’re on Mariner, we have final payment in early January for the first segment of the Grand Arctic and are debating what we’re going to do, thanks
  19. Yes please, this new time is pretty bad except it seems for a few
  20. A travel agent I use books “ luxury” as well as “ non luxury “ cruises and gives rebates for all. If she gives perks I would certainly use her
  21. By any chance is your second segment Rome to Barcelona? We’re on that one
