  1. Thanks everyone who replied. We did manage to sit out on deck on our Queen Victoria cruise in December to the Canary Islands which was a pleasant surprise so fingers crossed for the same experience in July on the QM2.
  2. All of our voyages on the QM2 have been in the winter which means that the Cafe on deck 12 has never been open. However, we are sailing to the Mediterranean in July so what are the chances of it being open? I understand that it serves fast food but I've also read that there is no seating. If the latter is correct am I expected to eat my burger standing up; seems rather odd to me. Or maybe there's seating elsewhere on the deck?
  3. If you or any close member of your family are serving or have served in any of the Armed Forces you can, for a small fee, join the Forcespensionsociety.org and you are then able to get travel insurance. I have my late father's service number from the Second World War so time is not a factor. The insurance is with a Lloyds Syndicate. They asked no medical questions other than 'do you have a terminal illness' and 'do you have any mental health issues. They will not accept anyone over 80 but if you're already a policy holder you can remain, but health questions may well be asked at this point. Hope this helps.
  4. Have a look at cruisetimetables.com There would appear to be cruises that would get you to Brisbane in October but you'd have to get to the States first! However, getting home may be more of a problem. Perhaps a word with a travel agent might help?
  5. Because I had the time I went to a few more online agents and the price is all over the place. If nothing else, it proves that before you book anything do a search across all agencies !!!
  6. John, since I posted earlier I've done a bit more digging. It's the Carnival Pride out of Dover to Norway 9 nights in June. The agency is £449 pp for an inside cabin so I went to another online agency and found it for an inside cabin from £379 pp. Finally I went to Carnival website where it is advertised as from $754 (£602) pp for an inside cabin. At £379 pp for 9 nights it's a good price. Just rereading the original flyer of £449 - they are offering either a hotel the night before sailing or car parking which could be why the price differs from the £299? Not sure if we'll pursue it as we've got a cruise booked for the end of july. I was just curious.
  7. Glad you're sorted. Unfortunately our experience is the complete opposite. We'd banked with Nationwide for years and did have the travel insurance which, when it works, is brilliant. But In 2018 DH, who was 74 at the time, suffered a very mild stroke. He had/has no lasting symptoms, takes no medication and was discharged from the hospital with no need for any follow up. He was not admitted to hospital, just treated in A&E. However, the advice was to mention it to our insurance company. Nationwide's response? We won't cover you for a stroke and whilst we are at it, we will no longer cover you for your diabetes and High blood pressure - all of which they had previously covered us for. So basically they refused to cover him for any of his previously noted conditions !!! Fortunately we found a company that accepted us, no questions asked (including medical ones!) and this year's annual insurance, including the States and the Caribbean is £450 for the two of us.
  8. When is false advertising not false? Just received an email from a travel agency we've used before advertising a no-fly cruise for £299 pp. Clicked on the link and the cruise in question is shown as from £449 pp!! Surely this can't be right?
  9. We sailed the fjords last year with 'lowers voice to a whisper' P&O who were unable to dock at Geiranger and instead we stopped at Hellesylt. This is a tiny place and mainly a jumping off point, but we chose to stay and did the walk up the side of the waterfall - right hand side is steps and nearly killed me!! but the left side is a slope. Lovely place. This view was taken from the ship so you can see how close it is.
  10. Unashamedly 'borrowed' from another forum.
  11. Well they do say that it's a small world!!!! Sorry 🤣
  12. Very easy answer. It depends on pricing!! I've yet to do a dummy booking but thought I would ask the question anyway.
  13. I'm looking at a cruise out of the UK next year on the Legend but it's not clear (or maybe it's me) which categories have cabins that cater for 3 adults. Do these cabins have a sofabed, rather than a pulldown? Adult daughter feels that she is now to old to try and clamber into a bunk bed!! Thanks in advance.
  14. Does this new policy mean an end to free upgrades? We've been upgraded twice now and always dream of being moved to a cabin we couldn't normally afford.
  15. Is this a new thing? Seeing on another site someone's been offered the opportunity to bid on an upgrade from a sheltered balcony to a Club balcony. How do you work out what to offer?
  16. We're in the UK but have good friends who live in Orlando. In 2000 we were due to spend a fortnight with them when they rang to say they'd seen a 4 nights cruise out of Port Canaveral and were we interested in doing it. A tentative yes (had never ever considered cruising before this - it was only for the wealthy!!) saw us enjoy every second and we've never stopped cruising since then.
  17. I'm glad some people think the increase is negligible, but for others it may well be the straw that breaks the camel's back. It's surely now time that the gratuities are included in the price of the cruise and then we will know exactly what the cost of the holiday is. I'm also wondering when Cunard will tell us of the increase as we have two cruises booked, one in July and the other in December.
  18. Couldn't see any mention of Cardiff here but still interesting Cunard Line (timetableimages.com)
  19. Anyone know when this year's bear will be released and who will it represent?
