  1. I was on the Escape. There was no compensation for people onboard but I was not expecting anything because it was not NCL’s fault. They offered 30 minutes of free internet to make flight or/ and hotel arrangements They also said several times that we were 5 miles from the port and if we could go to the starboard side of the ship, we might get cellular service and use the phone. I did that and could call American Airlines several times until I could change my flight from the 3:05 p.m. to the 7:30 p.m. I was lucky that the flight was delayed and it left at about 9:00 p.m. I heard many people on the ship that had to stay in Miami that night or even go to Fort Lauderdale to go home. The AA Rebooking Center had the longest line I had ever seen that went from about Gate 38 to Gate 44. NCL gave updates every 30 minutes and had activities on the ship like the Family Circus a movie in the theater etc. People were allowed to stay in the cabins until late. One thing that maybe someone can clarify here. When I was eating lunch in the Garden buffet I saw 3 other ships behind the Escape. Was it that there was one cruise line that had 2 ships there?
  2. I’m confused because I used facial recognition with Norwegian out of NewYork last year. I sailed out of New York twice with NCL once in the fall and once in December and it was really fast.
  3. I tried to find the answer and too many threads come out that don’t have anything to do with it. RCI finally posted excursions to a port on the cruise that I am sailing on next week. I put an excursion in the cart because the other ones below were for other ports that I already had booked. As I continued to scroll down I found another one that was for the whole day. I tried to put it in the cart but it is not allowing me to do it and I cannot remove the first one.
  4. I do the same thing. I also like that it saves a trip to the Cafe each morning to get it.
  5. I’m sorry that this happened to you. I have been lucky that on the tours that I have taken, photography was permitted at least in the laundry, provision area and in the kitchen. I agree with you. I’m turning Diamond this year and there’s not a lot of difference between Sapphire and Diamond.
  6. I was on a Baltic cruise on the Dawn last June. I didn’t buy alcohol but bought merchandise from Tradewinds and they charged extra taxes giving the same excuse. If they do it with the regular merchandise, they probably do it with the alcohol.
  7. I was on the Gem with my cousin on the following cruise 4/30 to 5/6/23. We met a mother and adult daughter who we saw a few times during the cruise. The mother sent an e- mail to my cousin after the cruise to let us know that she and her daughter had Covid. My cousin and I tested for Covid but we were negative. I wonder how many other people got Covid on the Gem.
  8. On the Gem, O’Sheehans has the regular coffee and Starbucks coffee too. Maybe other O’Sheehans do the same.
  9. That’s what I do when I travel with friends or my cousin. Since I am always booking the cruises, I always get the credit and give them $25 for each day that both of us have excursions.
  10. Yes, that’s true. I only bought photos on the Star but they applied the tax. I’m glad I took my Brazilian cruise in March so I avoided the new visa fee.
  11. That explains why I didn’t get one when I booked my Rhapsody’s cruise last year when I was on the Ovation.
  12. They can put it on the online description of the tour so you know about it before you buy the ticket.
  13. I had my first Platinum cruise with Carnival last October. (Platinum is the second highest level on Carnival). What I got was a koozie. I am glad they are changing the gift for this year. What I liked was the pin for the ship that you are sailing. Before that, it was a generic tier pin for the previous levels like NCL. I hope NCL is reading this because I agree that there is not a lot of differentiation between Platinum and Sapphire. I like some of the suggestions given on the thread. I am turning Diamond on my Viva Christmas cruise.
  14. I have been on the Epic several times. Last time b2b2b in December. I had 2 issues : one during the first cruise and the second one regarding the disembarkation/embarkation from the first cruise to the second one. I wrote to the general manager about the issues as feedback so they could be improved in the future. He called and left a message and I saw that the problem was solved for the next disembarkation/ embarkation. On the Joy in January, there was another issue and I wrote to the general manager This time, the person who called me was the assistant cruise director. We met and she explained the reason why the problem was happening and I was satisfied that at least they are reading the notes and contacted me. Those are the only times that I had written to the general manager in 65 cruises but it works. Regarding the single strawberry, that’s strange and funny. I got 5 each time.
  15. I have been seeing the shirts that are from the ports I’m visiting at 2 for $25 since last year. You could find cheaper ones if they are not from a port on the current itinerary.
  16. I was on the Joy in Jan-Feb. If I remember correctly, they are across each other.
  17. David is the name of the Cruise Next Manager. I don’t recall the name of the Security Officer.
  18. I was on the Star for the March 12th cruise this year. I also have been on the Dawn twice (the last time last June). I booked these small ships for the itinerary and they didn’t disappoint. My highlights for the Star cruise were the Moderno restaurant with excellent service and food, the great service and food at O’Sheehans which was conveniently located close to my cabin on deck 8, the dinner with the officers with the Cruise Next Manager and the Security Officer (great conversation), the shows that you don’t see in most ships like the Gaucho’s show and most excursions 4 out 5 were excellent ( again South America itinerary). Everything went well for this cruise with the exception of the Ilha Grande walking tour because the tour guides left me at the State/ National Park. I am a very visual person and I’m always reading the signs and taking pictures of some of them so I figured out how to go back to the ship. You have the Scandinavian itinerary so no problem there. One other thing was that during the whole cruise there was no signal for the News channels. You could watch the movie channels and the sitcoms channel but no news. I saw Elizabeth (cruise director) many times before and after the shows and also on the t.v. for the daily information show and the married couples show. I forgot the name of the show.
  19. If your cruise is full and you want to see the production shows, you definitely need reservations or you can wait to see if people don’t show up 15-20 minutes before the show. I won’t take the risk on a new ship/ new show on the Viva.
  20. Yes. I am excited too since I booked the Christmas cruise.
  21. I have been on the Epic Christmas cruise 3 times including the last 2 years. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas and had lots of activities. As others have said, make reservations for specialty dining and shows early. They still had Priscilla last year as one of the production shows. I hope they get another production show to replace Priscilla before December.
