  1. When I retired from fdny, I taught elementary school for a few years. My kids liked reading Sarah and Duck books, as well as watch the TV series. I bought a stuffed replica of “ Duck”. When I’d travel, I’d take “ Duck” with me and wear my school shirt, and take pictures all over the world. The kids loved it, and developed an interest in travel, and learned about different countries and cultures. Yes, he still travels with us too!
  2. Never saw it on a ship, but read that Jeep owners do it. Harmless fun IMO.
  3. Of course the wild card in all of this, is what kind of weather and seas will the Moon encounter. Top speed would be based on perfect sea and weather conditions I’d assume.
  4. I don’t have any pictures of the bathroom Move, but stayed in a Veranda with a tub, which we never used. When you walk into the bathroom ( in our case) the sink is straight ahead, the tub was on the wall to the left, and a smallish shower and toilet were to the right. The shower was adequate, however when you opened the shower door, water would accumulate on the floor and in front of the toilet. For the ladies especially, you had to throw a towel on the floor or your slacks would get wet. The tub did have a clothesline which we used. We didn’t know beforehand that the other cabins has larger showers and no tub. I definitely wouldn’t take a room with the tub again. Hope this helps. JSR, great pictures! The 80 mph ride would’ve scared the heck out of my wife.
  5. Kind of sad seeing her still looking elegant all lit up,but without passengers.
  6. Congratulations!! Enjoy the day and evening. A great place to be for an anniversary
  7. Being trained to watch for chogs . Chews up books and other items left too long.
  8. I definitely would ! 20 sea days ? Love it
  9. And this morning it was reported that a tanker was hijacked in the Gulf of Oman. It had left Iraq for Turkey, but now is headed to Iran.
  10. 57, you are correct. It was originally Aquaba to Aquaba and included Egypt. We were booked on it and the one after. We cancelled when Egypt was dropped from the itinerary. The original roll call is still posted
  11. Nice to know that you’ll be in the best possible hands for your flight to Barbados! Haven’t met a cruiser yet that was fortunate to have a family member be piloting their flight . Enjoy the cruise, and the flight !
  12. JSR, thank you for taking us with you on your trip. Looking forward to the future updates etc. Enjoy every minute of your SAGV !
  13. Hapag Lloyd announced that they’re keeping their ships out of the Red Sea area, and taking the long route around the Cape of Good Hope.
  14. I’m wondering if SS insurance companies are going to charge them a huge premium to go through this area, or will they decide not to insure. Seems like the area gets riskier each day.
  15. We ate the grill on the recent TA on the Nova, and there was also an obnoxious guest complaining all over to the staff. If that wasn’t enough, he must’ve complained at reception, because the food and beverage manager came in and talked to the staff and very shaken up maitre’d . My wife and I went over and told the food and beverage manger how rude and obnoxious the passenger was, and how patient and calm everyone else remained. Never a need to ever berate anyone, and we’ve all seen it. The last time was at the Salt Bar on the Dawn crossing last year. I always let senior staff know about it , either personally or in writing. I’d hate to see anyone in trouble because of an out of control nut job. I’m amazed at how much self restraint the staff has.
  16. Years ago we saw George’s Taxi recommended on CC. We’ve since used them many times, both for transfers and tours .
  17. They added to the menu at Silver Note on Nova, and made the portions bigger. Either way, a great enjoyable venue. Like a supper club from days gone byAlso, tables around the piano and dance floor make it nicer than on Moon & Dawn. Have been greatly enjoying your posts and experiences of your trip. Great pictures too. Keep enjoying it !
  18. Wants you sail with SS once, you become a Venetian Society member with visitation privileges for a fee. As an aside to having visitors, Seabourn allowed our son to come aboard in NYC, and share dinner and drinks with no charge. Also, filled out the same paperwork as required by SS .
  19. They do. They’ll give you paperwork to fill out with information about you guest. I believe your guest needs to have a passport. We were going to have our son on, but his plans changed, so we never did the paperwork.
  20. We used it in April on a TA to Dover from Florida. The price for business was unbelievably cheap, and the flight home on a nonstop from Heathrow to Orlando on Virgin Atlantic couldn’t have been better
  21. The crew welfare fund is the way to go IMHO. They post down in the crew quarters too, as we were thanked by some crew members. Actually, the best tip that you can do is to be sure to mention their names on the questionnaire at the end of the cruise if they gave you good service. You’ll know they appreciate it when they run into you a year or two later on another cruise and remember your name.
