  1. Yes, it is a regular day that comes between July 3rd and July 5th!
  2. I'd be interested in that one too (although my preference is caffeine free diet Pepsi). This might very much depend on where you are sailing; finding diet caffeine free beverages can be difficult. (However, I have found that Diet Sprite is more common in Europe than here in North America, and that could do me for times that I don't want caffeine. I also drink regular diet Pepsi, but not in the evening.)
  3. It's been a weird spring all over the place.
  4. I feel for you. Here in Toronto we are only expecting rain (and probable thunderstorms) but I saw the extent of the freezing rain warning on the news. Wish you all the best.
  5. I was in St. John's at the end of June 2016. I had expected the weather to be cool, but I threw in a pair of capris at the last minute. I think that I wore them every day I wasn't at my conference. The weather was in the high 20s (Celsius), until I went up to St. Anthony's and L'Anse aux Meadows where it was so cold I wore all the layers that I had. In addition, I had to buy a pair of gloves to wear on my iceberg/whale watching cruise.
  6. Maybe, but I see what happens to the pavement during pothole season here in Toronto. The pavement breaks.
  7. I'm amazed how long it shook BEFORE it broke up! It was like the pavement was elastic.
  8. I enjoyed it, but it was different from the others. The ship is very small, only 18 cabins, and we had only 18 passengers. Strangely, I was the only passenger on my wing of the lower deck; I guess people preferred to be either on the upper deck, or below cabins rather than the dining room and lounge, but I didn't have any issues. The crew was amazingly helpful; I was travelling with a cane due to a knee issue, and any time we had to climb out of the river up to the bank there was a crew member to provide me with assistance, as well as at most of the stops. I loved the panorama cabins on Avalon; sometimes when we were cruising I would open up the sliding window, set the screen, and sit in bed and watch the scenery go by. My highlight was probably the sunset boat ride at the U Bein bridge. I too would not go today.
  9. The fast train from Paris Est is much more frequent and a bit faster, but there are also fast trains from Frankfurt (hauptbahnhof).
  10. Here is a link to the Keukenhof site that discusses combination transportation and admission tickets. https://keukenhof.nl/en/ov/ The places listed are Amsterdam, Haarlem, Schiphol airport and Leiden, which leads me to believe that Rotterdam would be less convenient. Checking on Google maps, while Keukenhof is between Amsterdam and Rotterdam, it is considerably closer to Amsterdam, and closer still to Haarlem.
  11. No. Scenic is covered under the general river cruising forum. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/115-river-cruising/ and the roll calls (which aren't particularly active on river cruises are in https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/546-all-other-river-cruise-roll-calls/ FYI, you posted in the River Cruise Ports forum, which is a subforum of the River Cruising forum.
  12. Train ticketing machines in Germany give you the option of switching to English (and presumably other languages). You can also use the Deutsche Bahn app in English to purchase tickets in advance, or the website bahn.com.
  13. You should be asking this in the Princess Cruises forum.
  14. Because Norway is part of the Schengen zone, you do have to go through passport control in Frankfurt, your first port of entry into the zone. Very likely, your bags will be checked through and you won't see them until Bergen. My understanding of the customs process is that you go through customs in Bergen, which probably means walking straight out of the green (nothing to declare) line.
  15. My timing was similar to yours. However, I got both my new passport and the old one on January 5. (I mailed in the application on December 13th I think. My passport was processed in Richmond BC.)
  16. Wow. I wonder where they have been for the last 2 1/2 months!
  17. Dudley Do-Right was not Toronto Police. He was a Mountie (although not clear whether Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) or North-West Mounted Police. According to Wikipedia, the RCMP was created in 1920 as a merger of the Royal North-West Mounted Police and the Dominion Police.
  18. The younger clientele strategy didn't work too well for U by Uniworld.
  19. I'm doing the Fjords and North Cape on Dawn in June 2024.
  20. You are correct Daisi; we have a mounted unit in Toronto. From the Toronto Police Service website: Mounted officers are responsible for patrolling city streets in a crime prevention and enforcement role as well as responding for crowd management. The officers and horses are engaged in constant training to ensure they are ready to provide a calm and steady presence in the city where and when needed.
  21. No. They actually taste quite different. Coke zero used to taste more like diet Pepsi, but was recently reformulated and now tastes awful (at least to me).
  22. The French railway site is not foreign friendly. I suggest checking The Man in Seat 61 (seat61.com) for the best way to buy tickets for French railway trips.
  23. It isn't except. Northern Ireland is not in the Republic of Ireland, it is part of the United Kingdom (of Great Britain and Northern Ireland).
  24. No. Everyone has to have Nexus to use the Nexus lines.
