  1. In a recent review on the Apple App Store page, the developer requested feedback and listed their email address as: appfeedback@rccl.com. Perhaps people who can’t update might want to send a message to this email?
  2. I recently searched and could not find anything except a lot of posts telling people to relax and not count calories while they are on vacation.
  3. I agree that iOS updates contain bug fixes. In addition, they are also full of feature updates and interface changes (https://www.wired.com/story/apple-iphone-ios-17-ipados-17-new-features/). Updating often causes a cascade of issues with apps that then need updated and sometimes no longer work with the new iOS. I am no Luddite. I work in tech. But Apple's policies are planned obsolescence to generate revenue at the expense of Earth's limited resources. Buying a new phone when your current one works perfectly well is incredibly environmentally irresponsible.
  4. Oh. That explains the issue I’ve been having, too. I have been stuck in a loop between the app saying that I need to update and sending me to the App Store, as you describe. Then the App Store doesn’t show an update available. I didn’t notice the header that said “Requires iOS 17 or later” until you mentioned it. I hate updating my iOS because it always causes all kinds of unforeseen problems and annoying interface changes. I imagine a lot of people still have older iPhones like you, and aren’t going to be able to update either. What a pain.
  5. I can see the menus on my upcoming Edge for the end of May, so that’s about 2 months. I’m not sure when they normally populate them though.
  6. You may have already done this, but try clicking on “Day 2”. They don’t serve breakfast on the first day.
  7. In the USA, a strip steak and a sirloin are very different cuts of meat. A strip steak comes from the short loin, near the ribs of the cow. It is in a protected spot so the muscle doesn’t get a lot of exercise. It is a fairly well marbled and reasonably tender cut of meat that works best when grilled or pan seared. Sirloin is much tougher cut of meat that comes from the cow’s hip or rump. It is often ground or used for stir-fry. It is a much worse cut of meat than strip. I live in Kansas City and we often buy strips to grill and sirloin for ground beef.
  8. Is there any way to find this info if my particular cabin type is already sold out?
  9. I usually bring a small travel watercolor painting set and origami paper. My family also usually brings one or two Euro-style board games or an escape room in a box.
  10. Last fall we were looking for an Alaskan cruise to take in May 2024, and we found the price of a Regent ship veranda cabin to be almost equivalent to a Magic Carpet Suite on Edge. We booked the Edge because of logistics (debarking in Seward vs Seattle) and the timing of the cruise with our specific vacation days. If we would have had a little more flexibility with dates, we definitely would have booked Regent instead. However, a couple weeks ago, we discovered a giant price drop had occurred for the suites on our Alaskan cruise and we rebooked at the lower price. I’m not sure what happened. There were a lot of empty cabins so maybe Celebrity actually noticed they weren’t selling at the price that was being offered.
  11. I remember a previous post regarding a different Celebrity ship, but they said that the Pelotons had toe cages and to leave your clip-in shoes at home.
  12. That used to happen to me when I tried to log into the website using more than one browser / tab. Try closing out of all locations you might be logged in, waiting a couple of hours, and then trying again.
  13. It is smart casual every night, although a lot of people will be more dressed up on an evening chic night. Celebrity’s web site states that Luminae is always smart casual and I have experienced this myself several times. Edit: I agree with markeb who said Celebrity’s website is confusing. On a double check,it actually says Smart Casual is acceptable for dining everywhere.
  14. I don't think I've ever seen either of those on board, but IMHO it tastes better if you just drop a lime wedge in a glass of San Pellegrino.
  15. It’s been a few years, but my daughter strongly preferred the Celebrity kid’s club to Disney’s. She said that on Disney, the kids were often left on their own to play with other kids or video games. Whereas, on Celebrity there were plenty of fun scheduled activities and lots of interaction with the camp counselors. That being said, there aren’t water slides or anything like that on Celebrity. So if the kids are going to be spending lots of time in the kid’s club, Celebrity is fantastic. If you want to spend time going down water slides or rock climbing and meeting princesses, then Disney or another line would probably be better.
  16. Did you get your photo problem solved? If not, try turning off the “live photo” setting in the camera app. I think that will allow the the photos to be saved as a JPEG.
  17. Thanks for all the information, and especially for the suggestion to try the banquette seating against a wall.
  18. I have read some reviews saying that Luminae can be quite loud on the E-class ships. I am partially deaf so it can be really difficult for me to talk to my dining companions when there is a lot of background noise or other people seated very close to us. Does anyone have experience with the noise level throughout dinner when arriving right when they open compared to nearer closing time? We will be on the Edge for an Alaskan cruise at the beginning of June if that makes any difference. Thanks for any advice!
  19. I agree. I thought it was studiously casual.
  20. I agree. I am always a little confused when people say that the Luminae menu is uninspired. It seems so varied and interesting to me, but I guess I wasn’t thinking about picky eaters. When I look at the dinner menu tonight on the Edge, for example, this is what I would be thinking as I read each item: ——- APPETIZERS: Braised Short Ribs: Short ribs are one of my favorite ways to eat beef. Yes please! Parsnips are a bit sweet and sound like a great accompaniment, especially with a little sweet and sour bursts of flavor from the pomegranate seeds! Turkey Escarole Soup: I am honestly not a big fan of Turkey, but I would be willing to try this. I’m not sure if I’ve ever had Escarole, which is usually somewhat bitter, in a soup before so that sounds interesting. And the Gruyère croutons sound delicious! Crispy Kale Salad: Looks great. I love that they are using kale instead of regular lettuce because it’s so much more flavorful and has a nice texture. Watermelon and feta is a classic combination that seems like a good choice to pair with the kale. Pig’s Foot Carpaccio: Wow! Okay, this does sounds really weird, but I love how different it is. I like pickled pigs feet so I would probably like this. (Note: I assume carpaccio just means sliced thinly here. I wouldn’t eat raw pork.) ——— ENTRÉES Veal Cannelloni - Hmm. I was influenced by the anti-veal campaign early in my youth and probably wouldn’t be able to order veal. Love the sides (chestnuts are so good!) but this would be a “no” for me. Cod Basquaise - Nice white flaky fish in a Spanish style tomato sauce. Sounds good. I had to look up what “piperade” was: peppers, onions, garlic and tomatoes. That’s a nice combination of vegetables. Pepper-crusted Muscovy Duck Breast - I love duck and don’t get it vary often. I wouldn’t even really know where to buy it to cook at home, so I’d definitely order this. My only concern is that duck can be easily over-cooked. I also love the idea of the Mille-feuille sweet potato side dish with mole and corn, seems like an elevated Mexican flavor profile. Grilled NY Strip - Okay, this one does sound a little boring, but I am occasionally in the mood for a steak and I love truffle mashed potatoes and roasted veggies are always good. Oh, and a beet-port reduction sounds amazing! I would get this just for the side dishes. Butternut and Swiss Chard Lasagne - This is with a Gruyère Béchamel sauce, so not your typical lasagne. What a great vegetarian option with interesting vegetables. I’d love to try this one. ——— So almost all of these look like delicious and extrémale well constructed dishes to me. I would actually have a hard time choosing between menu items and would definitely be looking forward to coming back so I could try the other options. That being said, I can see how a picky eater might feel really limited. If you only eat beef and chicken, then you are down to about 2 appetizers and 2 entrées. But I still can’t imagine calling this menu uninspired or boring.
  21. I don’t know… Avian water sounds kind of fowl to me.
  22. I have sailed in a Celebrity Suite twice and the main benefit was the semi-separate sleeping area. Our daughter was with us and it was nice to be able to put her to bed out on the couch and still be able to watch TV in the bedroom area. That being said, there is a giant translucent window which lets in some light and sound, so the bedroom doesn't actually feel like a totally separate room. I think there is also some extra storage space, but if you aren’t traveling with a third person, it probably isn’t worth it.
  23. I think that newer research disagrees with that hypothesis now. In addition, it is worth noting that many of the original studies were done by breakfast cereal companies like Kellogg's. https://www.vox.com/2019/2/1/18206873/breakfast-diet-weight-loss
  24. This is exactly why our next cruise is going to be in an overpriced Sky Suite on X. We have a tight window for taking our vacation and don’t want to spend a lot of those precious days traveling to and from the port. In addition, we are foodies who far prefer Luminae over the MDR and most of the specialty restaurants. I tried to find a suitable cruise on a luxury line, but none of them had an itinerary that fit the specific dates that we have available for vacation, unless I want to spend 2 extra days trying to get back home from Seward, Alaska. I foresee our schedules becoming a lot more flexible in a couple of years and I expect we will be better able to branch out to other lines then.
