There has always been a limited menu available in Blue Lagoon (O'Sheehan's) from about 10 P.M. until about 5 A.M. This has been true in all 25 of my Norwegian cruises.

I am very sorry about your experience aboard The Jewel. I was on her first sailing of the season 9 May to 16 May and other than some very rude passengers, my experience was amazing. I thought the ship was well maintained. There was always Deck staff working outside except the day we were in Glacier Bay.
To me the most outstanding staff members were Hotel Director Steven Jacobsen and Restaurant Manager Noel Chaves.
Out of my 24 Norwegian cruises this will stand out a long time as one of my very favorites. I can not wait to sail on Her in January.

Who was the Restaurant Manager? The Getaway has had several in the last few months with more staff changes coming getting The Escape ready for Her saling.
-
Who were the Senior Officers both on the Hotel side and the Bridge side?

The Spirit was in drydock in 2014 and will not be scheduled again until 2019.

I came off the GA at 8:45 A.M. with their transfer to the MIA on the 6th of June. We arrived at the airport about 10:00 A.M.
With your sailing being the end of August, the ship will probably be very full with last minute vacations before school starts again.
I hope you enjoy your cruise.

Thank you for your review. I love The Spirit. Do you know who the Senior Officers were both on the Hotel side and the Bridge? Thank you

Can someone who has been on the Getaway Eastern Caribbean Cruise share with us what day the Captain's Dinner is held?
We are trying to plan our dinner reservations and would like to plan around that. Our cruise date is June 13th, 2015 so any recent information would be helpful.
Thanks :):):)
It is called "Dining With A Officer". You enter a drawing at Guest Services. My last dinner was with one of the Training Officers' and the Beverage Manager. The dinner was held on Wednesday night in Taste. The other table was hosted by someone from Housekeeping and someone from the Shore Excursion staff. The dinner is not always held. I just did this one The Getaway last week. There is no charge for the dinner. Sometimes pictures are taken and sometimes not.

I have done 3 Alaskan cruises 2 on The Pearl and 1 on The Jewel. I have been home 10 days from The Jewel and wish I go again. Met some people who had previously cruised on Princess and said they would never go back to Princess. they liked the Free Style cruising. Thought the food was better and loved The Jewel's staff. The two ships are very similar. I cruised as a solo passenger in an inside cabin and had no problems at all. Being September, you probably will not have very many kids on board. My favorite port of call is Skagway- very old Russian settled community.
Have a great time. You can not go wrong with either ship.

I am heading out in a few days for my 25th Norwegian cruise, have 3 more booked and in the planning process for another one.

I was also on the 7 May Jewel cruise. It was my 24th Norwegian cruise and my third to Alaska. For many reasons, this was the best cruise ever. The staff from Captain Niklas, Hotel Director Steven Jacobsen and Restaurant Manager Noel Chaves on down to the wait staff specially at the Java Cafe in the lobby. Very tough week for the Security Staff from Nepal with two earthquakes in their homeland. All of them were relived to know that their families and homes were okay.
Yes, there were some people complaining about absolutely everything but this cruise was too wonderful for anything to spoil it.

Came back last Saturday from The Jewel's first cruise of the season. Bright blue skies and arm temperatures all the way until reaching Seattle again. I took too many cold weather clothes and not enough warm weather clothes. Had a wonderful time. You will love The Jewel- great ship and great staff.

When you get a chance could you please post who the Senior Staff Officers are both on the Bridge and the Hotel?
Thank you and have a great time.

Thank you for your review and pictures. I will be boarding on the 30th. Did any staff member stand out to you?
The maitre d in the Venetian told us that Norwegian corporate has flown in to oversee the inspections.
It is Standard Operating Procedure for people from Corporate to fly in and assist IF necessary in cases like this one. Staff on board are more than capable of handling any inspections necessary. No NEED to make anything of it. -

If you have a regular balcony cabin, where do you wait to disembark? We do not need to do self walk off with the luggage.
Toward the end of the cruise, colored luggage tags will be available in the lobby with what time each color is scheduled to leave. Decide what time you want, pick up the number of luggage tags you need. You can wait in any public area until your color is called.

No, this is not a full Canal transit. As fisywood said you would go through the first set of locks, go into Gatun Lake and return. A full Canal Transit from Miami to San Diego or Los Angeles takes 14 days and well worth it.

I fly to Miami from the Pacific Northwest a couple a year and always come the night before the cruise. You never know if there will be a problem with the weather or your flight(s). Just safer to add a night. A number of hotels near the airport can make shuttle arrangements for you. Coming in for a weekday cruise might take a little more time than on a weekend. Most of the time from where I stay at the airport to the Port of Miami is anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes but that is on a weekend. The Miami Airport can be a hassle. You could book a tour of Miami or the Everglades that will take you to the airport in time for a 5 P.M. flight. Enjoy.

We have a small group of people on the NCL Jewel to Alaska Sept, 5th to 12th but so far nobody has taken initiative to start a formal meet and greet. My question is if I decide to be the one that takes charge and do this, who do I need to contact to get this started and to coordinate with? If you could give me specific contact information that would be helpful as well.
On Cruise Critic Main page under Community it says Meet and Greet. It will explain how it works.

They aren't based on when you arrive?
To a degree YES. Those in the Suites board as groups and board before numbers are called.

I have Platinum status and boarding number is usually between 14 and 18.
Getaway cabin upgrade list?
in Norwegian Cruise Line
Posted
On very RARE occasions you might be able to change cabins or upgrade once you are on board. Most of the time ships are completely sold out and nothing is available.
