  1. It's more the basic ones offered where there are several levels of cover - basic, silver and gold. Of course things like limited cancellation may also be included but not things like missed ports. That was my point.
  2. There isn't a chat function on the Australian Viking website and unless we use a vpn we can't access the US one. Luckily this won't bother us as we preferred the main eating places, and Manfredis service was very hit and miss. It wasn't crowded but it seemed like we had been forgotten and orders took ages then no drinks. We have a 21 day cruise in May which will be in a hot part of the world so likely the oceanview will be our haunt.
  3. Possibly but many policies don't cover missed ports and being Australia many might just take out basic medical insurance. Agree. The whole cruise would have been extremely difficult for everyone let alone the disappointment.
  4. There are reports from those onboard that there were sinister actions that led to the girl falling overboard and if true then there will be public announcements as enquiries conclude. If nothing is announced then they were just rumours. The other passengers were not offered any compensation for their cruise to nowhere.
  5. That works when the ship departs on embarkation day but the question was for when the ship stays overnight on embarkation day and departs the next night.
  6. I am really surprised she has been located. If there’s anything positive about this then at least her family and friends know. Sad times.
  7. Viking ships are wonderful. Orion was the first one we cruised with. Going to Mars next year 😁
  8. Trust not. We are there for an overnight. And the local reliable tpur operator who is on top of such things knows nothing about it.
  9. We have multiple sea days so the package will work out well for us. One thing to consider, do you want to spend valuable time in a port looking for alcohol? Or simply do the maths as to whether you will consume more than $20 each every day on alcohol.
  10. We tested positive in June and test still shows positive. Our negative tests done since RATs were available still show as negative.
  11. No cruise ships are allowed into the canals anymore. Courtesy of Italian Government. Pretty sure Viking aren’t happy either. Post is rather OTT.
  12. Marine traffic still reporting it will arrive here on 7th.
  13. It has been confirmed by passengers on that sailing in a FB page. With copies of the emails advising. It's a private group so can't repost here. The repairs also can't be done in Ushuaia but needs to be completed in a larger facility on the SA continent.
  14. Australia requires testing of all cruise ship passengers. Once a certain percentage tests positive then different arrangements are made for disembarkation of affected passengers at the end of their cruise. Not put into isolation though. It’s just about limiting further spread.
  15. Several of our Alaskan excursions were sold out pre DV4 allocations opened and that was pre Covid.
  16. Yes, those two in particular came to mind having experienced them. We arrive by plane into Mumbai then board the ship a couple of days later, but an overnight in Mumbai on the first night then 6pm departure the next night. We'd hoped to do a Viking excursion on the second day before departing. So not sure how that will be handled. Maybe even a multi entry visa might be needed?
  17. I was wondering about security and immigration processes when doing this. Usually boarding the ship means exiting immigration. Looking forward to seeing what happens in Mumbai next year on Mars.
  18. We were in Melbourne this weekend. It was very busy, Unis back to normal and restaurants and cafes packed Thursday through to when we left Sunday. A huge change from last February.
  19. I remember being on a Cunard cruise having a shower when suddenly the booming voice of the captain came into the cabin. Made for some consternation. Thankfully not a safety message though. It is a little frustrating to know there’s an announcement but not be able to hear it but think all cruise lines are the same. Shame it’s not an opt out option because I’m usually interested in hearing these announcements.
  20. For me I would get it on a sea day heavy cruise.
  21. The IC is on Taksim Square which is where we stayed after a cruise. Quite a way from the Port though but potentially any cruiser or tourist could have been caught up in the attack.
