Thanks for this info @VMax1700! Does Schiphol also have priority security lanes for airlines with business/first class passengers? By the way, I'll be in your neighborhood next May on the Zuiderdam TA! We'll be docked at Cobh. My first time in Ireland!! ~Nancy

Club Orange on Nieuw Statendam - Upgrade from VA?

If you are assigned this cabin but don't require and ADA Accessible room, will they kick you out if some wants to book it that does require the accessible room? Just curious. ~Nancy -

I'm on that TA with you but I'm staying in Haarlem and Amsterdam for a week after. I just did an Uber estimate for the whole trip and they showed Euro 167!! It looks like your taxi/train plan is a good one!! See you on board!! Here's a transportation site I find very helpful for comparisons. They show a bus to Haarlem but Taxi or Uber would also be my choice for simplicity. Rome2Rio: discover how to get anywhere ~Nancy -
Onboard special dining events koningsdam
oakridger replied to cmrvancouver's topic in Holland America Line
This quote above is from an old source. As others noted, The Culinary Arts Center was turned into the Club Orange Dining room well before the shutdown and Le Cirque has been gone for years before then as well. Konningsdam has dedicated Rudy's Sel de Mer, Pinnacle Grill, Tamarind and Canaletto specialty restaurants. Have fun! ~Nancy -

BTimmer's Almost Live Land/Sea Alaska Cruise (7/23/23-8/25/23)

Count me in as a regular reader of your trip reports also! It sure doesn't seem like a year has passed since you were just there with your granddaughter! Have a wonderful time and it will be fun to get a ten-year old's perspective this time!! ~Nancy -
I don't know about Crystal, but in my experience, all of the mainstream cruise lines operating with US passengers charge less for a Guarantee cabin. Windstar does too. I don't have experience with Silversea, Regent, Seabourn, Azamara which are more premium lines. Old Crystal offered a lower guarantee price previously in the US. The GBP 760 per person does seem overly high though! I am picky about my cabin location so haven't ever booked a guarantee cabin. Folks booked on new Crystal will hopefully let you know their experience soon. ~Nancy

Thank you. Were you onboard any of them for the coastal route? ~Nancy

Small cruise ships..with 35-220+/- people! Must do!!
oakridger replied to Krob58's topic in Small Ship Cruising
Thanks @Krob58. I'm like you, the thought of a 4000+ megaship doesn't appeal to me at all! It doesn't look like you can even see the ocean inside most of it! Nah! My largest ship experience was the new Holland America Rotterdam with about 2600 passenger capacity. It was a very pretty ship and I know many people love it, but even that was much larger than I want. That experience is why I am next on Windstar!! I'll keep this info on the smaller ships handy for future reference. ~Nancy -
I agree with @CruiserBruce. I used Lyft last November from the Port Everglades pier 26 to MIA and it was about $60 even with an added stop to pick up some drive through lunch! That or Uber or taxi is what I'll use next time going from MIA to Ft. Lauderdale hotel pre cruise. Easy, no dragging luggage to the train, etc.!!! ~Nancy

Thanks for coming back here to report on how your cruise went! People planning on cruising on Royal Caribbean will be happy for your information. FYI, Holland America Line will seat people at shared tables during "As You Wish Dining". Just tell them when entering that you are interested in sharing. They usually ask if you don't mention it. I generally sit by myself in the MDR unless I have met people on board that I decide to dine with. My request for a single table has always been accommodated on HAL. ~Nancy

This Might Be the Right Spot in the Forum for Me!
oakridger replied to jiminoregon's topic in Solo Cruisers
Welcome to Cruise Critic @jiminoregon! All you need to do is read down through all the threads in this forum and the tips and opinions are there! Have fun reading, it will take a while! ~Nancy -
If that's not an error than HAL thinks we are all pretty dense!!! Good catch! ~Nancy

Exactly! It's almost a full-time job monitoring the pricing on cruises you are interested in!! I wonder how I had the time to do that when I was still working full time +?? 😉 ~Nancy

Small cruise ships..with 35-220+/- people! Must do!!
oakridger replied to Krob58's topic in Small Ship Cruising
@Krob58 Welcome to Cruise Critic!! Thanks for this information! Up until now I felt like my sweet spot as a solo (usually) cruiser was the ships with around 800-ish passengers. Not too big and not too small! However, I have just booked a Windstar cruise to check out their 312 passenger ships. I wonder if the smaller ships you mention are just a little too small to offer some places onboard if "I want to be alone"?? (thanks Greta Garbo) I do like meeting new people though. Thoughts? ~Nancy -

Havila Northern light Cruise Stateroom choices and drink package
oakridger replied to MarieRD's topic in Other Cruise Lines
To everyone going in the fall and winter, I hope you have luck with the Northern Lights! I'm not quite ready for a Norway trip in winter. Next June for me! As I mentioned in another thread, I would have to buy a whole cold weather wardrobe to go that far north! The warmest I have now is what most Northern Hemisphere folks would describe as a "fall jacket"!! Have fun on Havila! ~Nancy
