@DaniDanielle Those were my thoughts too, since we had the same tragedy with my SIL (her husband died when he was 39, the kids were 8 and 10), and all she wanted is to travel/run away.... But, as you rightly say, everyone deals with adversity individually. Marietta, wishing you daughter and grandkids a smooth "transition" to their "new" life.

Apologizing in advance for going "off-topic" just a few seconds, but that's exactly what I thought about Beyond.... "Soulless. Too dark. Too much “real estate” taken by very high-end shops (Cartier, Bvlgari, Montblanc. Le maison du chocolat – always empty), and not enough connection with the sea. A dark mirrored corridor, which I’ve found down right creepy, fearing I’ll find myself stepping right into one of the mirrors." @RCCL Fan -- always enjoying your reviews and following avidly. Thank you for taking the time to do this.

With Celebrity's "Oia on your own", we had more than 2 hours in Oia. It was enough. If you want more, just tell the guide and ask for the cable car voucher. We were in Santorini mid June and thought also about a sunset diner (Beyond was in port until 10PM). BUT the sunset was very late, and, taking into account the cable car down, and the 9.30 "all aboard", it was not feasible....

Our first ever cruise was on "Jewel", and we were lucky to board her twice (one for the "classic" Caribbean itinerary from Miami, and one to South Caribbean from SJ). We absolutely fell in love with this class, which led us to "Radiance" to Alaska and NZ. They're ideal for an interesting itinerary. To this day, it is our preferred class.

Thanks, "brillo". I agree. Russian was compulsory in Romania. I learned it for 4 years and I was very good at it. The moment we left Romania, and, in Israel, I went to school with new immigrants from Russia, I couldn't utter a word in Russian, it was like all those years were wiped out from my mind... To this day, I only remember a few words. French, OTOH, I'm trying to preserve by reading some pages every day. Pity that reading and understanding doesn't equate speaking.....
