  1. Nowhere in the NCL terms and conditions does it cover government restrictions due to covid. Since covid started that has always been the passenger's responsibility to research and meet. Also, since covid started requirements come and go. I booked a trip in October of 2021 to Peru and Ecuador. The restrictions changed at least 3 times between when I booked and when I traveled. There's no way a travel company will take responsibility for that.
  2. That still doesn't solve the issue of where he will sleep.
  3. This seems like a very silly way of accomplishing the goal of collecting tax on drinks. Instead it just makes the bartenders at the few bars that are open work twice as hard. I agree with @rodndonna that finding fewer bars open wouldn't result in someone thinking it's more convenient to leave the boat to look for a drink in port. If the goal is to reduce the amount people drink without paying tax, why not limit the number of drinks served per person.
  4. No probably not. But that still leaves the question of where he would sleep and bathe. They will certainly notice someone who is sleeping in public areas all night or hasn't taken a bath or changed clothes in a week.
  5. So, we had a similar experience on a different cruise line. This was a "luxury" cruise line but our experience ended up being similar to yours. First, the ship had 40 people on it, nearly everyone was sick a few days in. Our cruise director consulted with corporate and asked everyone to take a rapid test onboard. Me and 3 other people tested positive. Interesting enough, my cabin made was also sick but tested negative. They allowed her to change rooms and remain on the cruise itinerary. I, on the other hand, was stuck in the cabin with room service that was very inconsistent. But the worst part for us was when we docked. We were in Vietnam, and the cruise included a short land portion at the end. We docked the evening before we departed and they brought a nurse on to give us all PCR tests. Apparently the cruise line had advised the hotel we were all staying of of the situation. They said that if we all tested negative on the PCR tests we could check in. If any of us tested positive, they then would require ALL of the passengers to take a PCR test before checking in. Which would have left 40 people in Vietnam with no hotel since the PCR test takes a day to process. Luckily, we all tested negative. But yes, an extremely scary and uncomfortable situation. Just as a side note; on this cruise, everyone was required to show proof of vaccination and booster.
  6. Poster is a one hit wonder. I seriously doubt this is legitimate. I can't imagine any parent thinking it's ok to leave their kids on the ship with no responsible adult while they travel to a location 3 hours away.
  7. Right I know that. Was just pointing out that you don't have to order specialty cocktails off the menu. You can always order basic cocktails with included liquors.
  8. Our experience on the classic package was that when you ordered a specialty drink off the menu that was over $10, you were charged the difference. However, we never went to a bar where we couldn't order a standard drink (margarita, martini, etc) made with classic included liquors for free. We didn't have trouble getting non-specialty drinks at the martini bar - it is a bar after all. But I can see them refusing if they are packed and knocking out the $17 martinis non-stop. We had the classic package and ordered a handful of specialty cocktails that were over, but nowhere near it enough to make it worthwhile to upgrade.
  9. Well yes, but in Celebrity's case they essentially rolled it into the package price. Then they removed it from the package without lowering the prices. I can see everything repeating itself. First they add it to the package price - then they leave envelopes for extra cash tipping - then they offer an auto gratuity to replace the cash tips. This happens at all inclusives now. Gratuities are usually considered covered in the hotel price. But then everyone still expects cash tips.
  10. This actually seems to be moving in the other direction. Celebrity offers and "all included" fare that used to include gratuities and now doesn't. This is my general fear with cruise lines including the gratuities in the price - the price will increase to include gratuities and then over time the pricing will evolve to expect additional tips on top of that.
  11. I think the issue is that this is so uncommon that very few places offer the service, and therefore those that do, can set their price. It sounds like your bank is more unflexible than most. I've pre-ordered currency once from PNC and while I had to pay a fee, I didn't have the currency restrictions you did. If this is something you do often, you could set up a free checking account at another bank with a minimal deposit so you can order cash from them. But I agree with the other posters that bringing currency and converting it the airport is probably a comparable solution. But we mostly do ATMS and credit cards when we travel.
  12. I've never had a balcony unusable due to wind. Usually when we can't use the balcony it's because of the air temperature.
  13. It's not up to people on cruise critic to give people grace. The issue is whether the cruise line, US customs, or foreign customs will give grace if caught. The answer is almost certainly no. I don't think anyone is suggesting that a very small amount of CBD oil with less than .03% THC is likely to catch the attention of drug dogs. More so that CBD products are unregulated so there's no way to know that it actually is .03% THC.
  14. Could it be that your husband is being told that he has to fly standby because the airline tickets aren't available yet? I can't find any past early July next year so not sure where the 2:50 flight is coming from. If you go to the last week where I can really find flights for - the weekend of 6/28 - there are many nonstop flights from new york to orlando friday evening and saturday morning. The idea that you wouldn't be able to get a ticketed flight that is more likely to get you in on time is nonsense.
  15. Refilling one fridge is still less labor hours than all the sky suite fridges being refilled. Especially now that it's just one team handling all of them.
  16. I've always wanted to try RCL but never have because in every cruise we have priced out, they were the most expensive. Celebrity used to offer a good value with the included drink package. I'm not so sure if they continue to be a good value with all of the threads about pricing increases.
  17. She was violating laws as opposed to cruise line policy. They can't take the chance of taking her to a foreign port with additional drugs in her bag that they didn't catch.
  18. This. As stated, the rum bottles can be recycled. And they will still have to have some container that they buy the rum in. I don't buy the reduced waste excuse.
  19. You can use viator or other websites; but that still leads to a middle man. I personally prefer to do research and book directly with local tour companies. I use TripAdvisor for research and reviews. We have had many spectacular tours going this route. And I feel much more secure than using whatever anonymous company the cruise line or shore excursion company has a contract with
  20. I really think that you are reading a bit more into the ‘invisible’ disability due to insecurity. It seems clear that you have an actual disability that requires special accommodation; which you prefer not to use because you are insecure about it. That just makes it harder for you and everyone around you. Expecting to jump to the front of every line with you husband isn’t fair to the others onboard. Expecting to stand in long lines and pass out repeatedly isn’t fair to you. There’s a middle ground where you can sit in lines to near lines and wait your turn. You just can’t be so concerned with what people think about you. as far as the Disney thing; something had to be done to find that ‘middle ground’. I used to work at an amusement park and sure, there was abuse from people jumping lines. Even people with legitimate disabilities got preferential treatment by jumping lines. What my park settled on what a ride printout. You took it up to the handicap accessible section and employee estimated how long the line was and wrote down a time to return. You couldn’t be in more than one ‘line’ at a time. Perfectly fair.
  21. The answer to this is it depends. Yes, if a cruise is selling poorly a few weeks-months before sail date, they will drop the price to fill the ship. If the cruise is selling well, the cruise could be sold out or the price much higher. It’s always a gamble to wait and book at the last minute. as far as refunds. Up until final payment due date, you can usually reprice is prices change. Once that date passes it’s at the discretion of the cruise. Also, be sure you are comparing apples to apples. A free at sea rate where u can pick your cabin next year vs a guarantee cruise only rate this year isn’t a real comparison.
  22. You won’t be able to get water in your cabin included with your package. There’s also not somewhere you can go to pick up water in bulk. You can stop by bars while walking and pick up water 2 bottles at a time. You can also bring a reusable bottle and fill it at the buffet. That’s what we usually do.
  23. Do you really want to move to another cruise or just more time to pay? I wouldn’t risk losing your deposit and having to reschedule your cruise just to get more time to pay. How much more time do you need? If it’s less than a month, use a credit card and pay the balance off.
  24. does carnival let you use OBC ahead of the cruise? It may be worth them calling to see if a reservation can be made without a charge.
  25. the issue is that the current Maui situation killed many people and ruined many others. We were ‘lucky’ enough to be in hilo during a significant eruption. It scared the crud out of us at the time, but it will be something we remember the rest of our lives. But the eruption occurred in volcano National park; no deaths or damage as far as I am aware. don’t get me wrong. I love sitting on my porch or with a window open listening to a major storm. But the entertainment factor should be off when we are talking about people dying in my job I’ve seen enough death and devastation. There’s no interest there for me.
