  1. Because I think it's about time that I am now on a level playing field with traditional diners in being able to use my OBC for tips. I would never in a million years "stiff" the staff. Celebrity finally caught up with all the other cruise lines that treat the two the same. I shouldn't get punished because X is useless at accounting

Don't you know it's typical of cruise critic to assume the worse of people and of course, preach from their high horse?

God forbid if people wants to spend their obc on gratuity and have select dining....just like the traditional people have always been able to do.

  2. IMHO seems to me that this coincides with the "rumors" about Celebrity going all "Select Dining". The lower sections of the dining rooms are empty so much of the time, after first seating that they have had to open that up to Select. Many more folks are doing Select than fixed dining times. I don't und erstand why they still have fixed times. If you like to dine at 5:30 or 6:00 or 8:30 then do it.

    Let's see what happens.

If this rumor was true it would be great as it would open up a lot more tables.

  3. Just wanted to post up a new thread to let others know that if you're like us and have more OBC then what to do with w/o wading through the discussion of personal preferences.

You can now call up celebrity and have them remove the prepaid gratuity even if you have select dining and be charged to room later on the cruise date and use OBC to cover it.

I called today (1/23/16) and the (in)famous system would not let the agent do it without switching us to fixed dining, then remove the grats, and switched us back to select.

Got the booking confirmation that we have select dining w/o the pre-paid grats.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Last March 2015 on a whim we did the intro to scuba through celebrity in st Thomas and it was excellent.

The outfit that celebrity partnered with was really organized.

Us newbies did not have any certifications so they gave us the crash course.

After confirming that you can do a few crucial things. They then took us 4 at a time for our 1 tank dive at about 40ft deep.

After our 1 tank dive was up. We could snorkel around the dive boat while they took the others.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Joe,

Sucks that you got a crappy TA,

I'd recommend that you check prices now (with perks) and what you paid.

If you are outside final payment, you can still rebook and get all the perks if the prices are lower that is.

In my case, I have rebooked a few times and saved over $1000 AND actually gained another $100 OBC ontop of the $300 usually offered so it's worth a try.

  6. Don't forget to pack your monocle and walking stick along with your formal wear.

It's still amazing how people can be affected by what others wear.

Mind your own business, dress how you like.

  7. My husband and I are taking our first Celebrity cruise this spring, so naturally I have been perusing these boards to get a "feel" for the cruise. I must say, I'm a bit apprehensive now after reading so many posts coming from seriously grumpy passengers. I know that most don't post here but I don't want to spend my hard earned money on the same ship as some of these folks. So tell me, what do you LIKE about Celebrity?

Don't worry about the grumpies on the board, just do what you want, enjoy the cruise, believe it or not, most people on the ship will have never heard of cruise critic or care to.

We just took our first celebrity cruise last spring and loved it, the relaxed ambiance is a nice change from carnival

  8. I would say about an hour but we did not get coffee or dessert at the end of our meals. The service was very good and meals were delivered fairly quickly. We were originally traditional, late seating but switched to select after the second night. The dining times were comparable.

Thank you for answering, let's hope the service stays that way.

Last march we were on the summit with select dining and each night, dinner was a 2.5 hr event!
