Hi all,

We are arriving into LAX at 0615 from Aus. Boarding the Ruby that same day.

My question is, once we drop our bags off (does anyone know what time that would be?) is there anything close by to fill in a hour or 2/keep us awake after 15hr flight.

Thanks in advance.

Check the west coast ports board.

I don't think you'll be able to drop your bags off earlier than 10am. Passengers will still be disembarking at that time. You can visit the USS Iowa which is right nearby but if it were me, I'd take a taxi or if the trolley is running to the Ports o' Call which is about a mile away along the waterfront. There are shops, restaurants and things to do there. A couple of years ago, I took a 2-hour "tall ship cruise" from there. You can shop, have lunch and then when you get back to the ship, be able to board.

The Red Car Trolley rail line suspended service on 9/27/15:

"The Port of Los Angeles suspended operations of the Waterfront Red Car Line on September 27, 2015 in preparation for the Sampson Way Realignment Project near Ports O' Call Village. During construction along Sampson Way at 7th Street and Harbor Boulevard, the San Pedro Waterfront Trolley, operated by San Pedro Business Improvement District, will enhance trolley service routes to ensure visitor mobility will continue without interruption".

Their Red Car Trolley is still an option (Saturday, Sunday & the first Thursday of the month):

This news story states Port's o Call construction will begin in 2017.

The Victory Lane is docked at the south end of Cabrillo Avenue.

It's not located at the south end of Cabrillo Avenue but near the south end of Miner Street (3600 Miner St; Berth 49). Google Maps shows Cabrillo Ave west of Gaffey inland from the harbor & not where the ship is located.

Other then a few things that have already been posted there is not a lot to do in San Pedro. I'm sure you will be tired after flying in. Not sure if you want to then get to the port and then find a taxi to take you some where for a few hours. The only other tourist attraction close by would be the Queen Mary docked in Long Beach. Long Beach is about a 15 minute drive from San Pedro by taxi. Interesting to walk around the old ship and is good for a few hours.

The Getty is far away from San Pedro and not an option for a few hours pre cruise.

Totally agree with that. There is no way I'd back-track to the Getty Museum. You just never know what's going to happen on LA freeways and you could get stuck in some nasty traffic. Always best to get to the port, then venture out from there close to the port like to see the USS Iowa or Ports O'Call.
