Krazy Kruizers Posted February 8, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Don't know anything about your cat. But we have been on ships where couples without children had stuffed bears and dogs and other animals.
sparky-elpaso Posted February 8, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 8, 2010 I read a blog a while back where the couple took a "sock monkey" along and used it in some of their photos - the cruise from the monkeys point of view. It was really very well done.
Randyk47 Posted February 8, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Over the years we've seen several couples with items they've brought along to put in photos. Some it's just their thing and others, based on conversations with them, were doing it for children back home. The strangest one I've seen was a can of beans a then fellow CCer would put in the foreground of pictures. I don't remember the whole story but it had something to do with their son and he may have worked for or owned the company that made/sold the beans. :)
esther e Posted February 8, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 8, 2010 We sailed on Oceania with a couple (not WITH, but on the same ship as) who had some sort of doll with them. They were off the wall though, because the lido buffet was pretty full of people and the doll had its own chair. Someone asked if they could use the chair and were told no because it was occupied. My husband overheard them talking about taking the doll for a walk at one of the ports.
lettienets Posted February 8, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 8, 2010 On my last cruise a bunch of the roll call brought stuffed animals, dolls etc just for fun. Some people travel with a stowaway pet of sorts. We did it to create spirit and it was quite fun to see who brought what for our group photo of the stowaways. By the way, I brought 2 stuffed cats. knitlady037 Posted February 8, 2010 #7 Share Posted February 8, 2010 We had a couple on our last cruise that carried a stuffed white cat with them everywhere. It was also animated. The head turned and it made different cat sounds. The woman spoke to it constantly. Very creepy.
Rare Copper10-8 Posted February 8, 2010 #8 Share Posted February 8, 2010 I have many time consired bringing my trunk monkey on board. Cooler heads (the childbride's) prevailed and I thought better of it
Rare iamaqt2 Posted February 8, 2010 #9 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Ahhh.... Copper... I love your trunk monkey!! I would bring him too... he could carry my plates in the lido! However I would much prefer to bring my unicorn Charlie! He would fit right in with the other Pax:
Pettifogger Posted February 8, 2010 #10 Share Posted February 8, 2010 John (Copper 10-8): Excuse me for "sneaking in the back door," but I couldn't find a thread you started recent enough to be sure you'd return to it. I have a friend familiar enough with HAL to know quite a few of the officer complement and I'd like to repay her many favors to me by advising her who will be the hotel manager, dining room manager and GRM on the April 3, Eurodam transatlantic, if we're close enough for you to know. Thanks Semper Fi

Check back then!;)

themerle Posted February 8, 2010 #13 Share Posted February 8, 2010 On our cruise to Alaska in 2008 two ladies brought their American girl dolls. They dressed them in different clothes everyday. I've also seen people bring "Flat Stanley" along. We've taken "Stanley" with us on trips but never had the chance to take him on a cruise. This April we might get the chance to bring him along! Rare Roz Posted February 8, 2010 #14 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Esther e, I'm positive I encountered that same couple you're referring to with the doll. When I first saw the wife carrying it around the ship with her, I thought she was a developmentally disabled adult (notice I didn't use the "r" word). One day at lunch, I got seated with she and her husband at a 6-top table. One of the ladies from my dinner table was there, and the doll sat in the 6th seat. I was winking at my tablemate the whole time. It was truly a bizarre experience. This couple sails all the time, and the staff seemed to know them, although they would snicker at them behind their backs. Hope it's not someone who's a regular poster in this forum! Roz
cruz chic Posted February 8, 2010 #15 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Had a lady on one of my cruises that brought a doll everywhere. She had all different HAL uniforms for it and changed it several times. I'm sorry but that's just "different" and she is a poster on CC.
esther e Posted February 8, 2010 #16 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Roz, this was a cruise on Oceania to the Amazon a couple of years ago. They were not the most well-dressed, and I am not a snob. But when a man goes into the restaurant and every venue in shorts, well.....In fact, there was an "altercation" in the showroom one night. The woman sat ramrod because she had a back problem. Sound familiar?
Rare Roz Posted February 8, 2010 #17 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Esther, maybe not. It sounds like the lady Lorekauf encountered, because the doll had different outfits. Roz
mudscraper Posted February 8, 2010 #18 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Not only are we HAL cruisers criticized for being old fogeys; now we have proof that some of us are wacko!! Rich
Rare Roz Posted February 8, 2010 #19 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Rich, it IS rather bizarre behavior, wouldn't you say. I often wonder what the crew tells their family and friends back home about the passengers. Hope residents of Indonesia and the Phillipines don't think we all walk around dolls and stuffed animals, and spend our free time designing and sewing outfits for them. :D Roz

Watching the doll lady was one of the things that made that cruise so interesting. The doll had its own miniature passport and I saw it at lifeboat drill with a life jacket on. esther e Posted February 8, 2010 #22 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Here's our group of stowaways in the casino last trip, all in good fun! This is totally different. There were a group of you who decided to bring them, and it looked like fun. What I was talking about was a husband and wife and that dang doll and it was frankly, weird. Nothing funny or cute about it. I think your menagerie was cute and I'm sure you had lots of compliments and smiles!!! Gee, maybe next cruise we should bring a stuffed doll or one of those very large stuffed tigers.

kakalina Posted February 8, 2010 #24 Share Posted February 8, 2010 Three different cruises we have seen the same couple. She always, always carries a large brown teddy bear. They talk to it, feed it, dress it and for all I knew bathed it. The two times I saw her without the bear she informed he was taking a nap. I found this weird behaviour. I must say they weren't as weird as the "hat lady" we sailed with her a few time also. She had the strangest hats all special made for her. There was a cheeseburger, a jesters hat, a cup of coffee, a hot dog and several others. She was always good for a smile.

She was my tablemate on my first Voyage of the Vikings until about the 20th day when I was rescued by a new friend and moved to her table. Those are her children. They all have names; the fish is Aida. One night she had a birthday party for them. It was a loooonnnnngggggg cruise.
