What would you do with $1800 in OBC??!!

I thought it would be fun to see what other people would do with this amount of OBC. This is my current "dilemma" now that I actually do have that much. :eek:

 

I first only had a measly $100 obc when I booked Oasis on my last Mariner cruise, then I got another $285 when I transferred the booking to a travel agent, but now I got another $1396 after chaning from a D1 to a D3 (there was a significant difference in price for the 3rd/4th persons and a small difference for the 1st and 2nd).

 

Since we are within final payment period, we got the OBC which is perfectly fine with me. I'm dreaming of all the ways we can spend it including a "Mother's Day Massage" a "Happy Birthday to me Massage" and all the yummy cocktails to sample every night. Of course, we'll be finding plenty of things for our 2 kids that are coming with us.

 

What would you do??????

Book private Flowrider time for you and your family with lessons

Get all those family portraits you never seem to get around to at home (pack color coordinated outfits for the white background nights- so cute for families!!!)

I would spend exactly like I would have prior to the large OBC and take the remainder home. It would be nice to come home to a credit balance on the credit card to use as a deposit on a future vacation.

I know we won't spend it all knowing we can get some back on our credit card, BUT it is nice to know that we don't have to think twice about ordering a bottle of wine or splurging on a spa service etc.... I'm usually so conscientious about what we spend on board, so this will be a nice change.

You can get it thru Casino withdrawals on other companies .Borrow from your card It should be deducted from OBC .Find out if you can do this

Go to cash counter once you transfer the amounts. Cash out .I would not spend it all some but not all!!!

Book all the excursions that you have always wanted to do but couldn't afford! For a family of four we spend at least $350 to do something fun/interesting in port. :) I agree with the previous poster that stated how great it will be to relax and not worry about your seapass statement!

I would never buy ship's excursions, even if they were essentially "free", but I would withdraw money from the OBC as spending money and use that to pay for private excursions.

 

The only thing I'd consider adding would be possibly a NextCruise credit. I'm not 'specially in love with the plan, but if I had that much money kicking around, I might reconsider. Will they let you put down more than $100 on your next cruise? You could wait 'til the last day of the cruise, find out how much you have left in OBC and put that down on your next vacation.

I would suggest you give it as a donation to someone from Atlanta who's first name starts with "A" and ends with "lly" so that she and her husband have more than $0 in OBC :)

 

I would probably spend 1/2 and put 1/2 towards the next cruise!

I have the same amount of OBC to blow on an upcoming cruise. I have already booked excursions since I don't want to wait in line down at Explorations. You'd be amazed how many get to the desk and have not a clue what they want to do and take a long time asking questions about various excursions before making a decision.

 

Of my $1,800, $600 is for booking on board which is non-refundable. It is 12-day cruise so $240 will go to tips. We will eat in the pay restaurants a couple of times. We are not drinkers or sucker Bingo players or ready-to-be ripped off art buyers so our on-board expenses won't be close to $1,800.

 

I have "heard" that they will deduct from the refundable portion ($1,200) until it is exhausted before hitting the non-refundable portion ($600). I've not had this confirmed but will certainly ask when on board. Anyone out there have any insight on this?

 

If I'm not happy with the answers (evasive or different from asking two or three times), I plan to truck on down to the casino and chip (pun intended) away at it and take a 3% hit on it. Figure that would be on $1,200 or $36. My goal is to get off the ship with a shipboard bill of $5 to be charged to my credit card (lol).

Totally incorrect!:rolleyes: Any unused OBC is cheerfully refunded on your credit card listed on your pass. This has been our experience on mulitiple cruises. Even for OBC gift certificates we didn't use all of, they refunded it.

If its an obc from Royal - yes it will be refunded (the balance not used) but if its a travel agent credit or other from an outside company it isn't:)

spend it, we got 400.00 one year due to something being wrong with out cabin, I had to use it or lose it so I went shopping, got a watch and a chess set (marble) and had a great time. Just be sure you can get it at the end, we had to use ours.
