Warning to folks buying booze onboard

All of the cruise lines I have sailed on have had this same rule. Is there a cruise line that actually lets you take the alcohol back to your cabin? If so, I want to know about it. :D

i see you've sailed DCL, while they won't let u take the booze u buy onboard back to cabin & hold until end of cruise, they do allow u to (or did unless the rules have changed since i last checked;)):

1) bring aboard as much booze as u want..i've seen peeps w/multiple cases of beer.

2) in ports where it's cheap/duty-free they don't have the table set up to confiscate/hold for end of cruise either.

OP hang in there:)no good deed goes unpunished

On my last RCI cruise we bought our bottles to take home the last afternoon of the cruise and we were allowed to bring them back to our cabin. we did not drink any because we would have never finished by the next morning.

Thanks Mach! YIKES! These folks sure can be brutal at times!

I agree..it seems as if some posters just want to see their self type and their status of number of posts rise. but lets not do it the extent of hurting someones feelings .......who was just trying to help.:( JMHO

He'll be happy if he likes drinking coke and coke. Which is IMO what someone who spoils Crown Royal by adding it to coke deserves. Crown Royal is meant to be sipped, not gulped when added to coke a cola.

I beg to differ. Crown is best with Coke. :) I will be drinking many of those on my upcoming cruise with my 1 liter bottle of crown from the good ole Bon Voyage department!!!!! :D

Sorry OP. Just had to defend the mixing of crown with coke! :o

Thank you so much Photoman for the support. I have been a member here for MANY years as you can see by the number of posts I have and have NEVER FELT SO BAD for simply sharing something I thought was helpful. Lesson learned for sure..some of the folks around here can be pretty hurtful...

Seriously, never let total anonymous human beings have that kind of power over you. The only people in the world who have the power to hurt me or make me feel bad are people for whom I care deeply and whose opinions I cherish. If people don't appreciate your help, too bad for them.

The same thing I said yesterday. Some of these folks come up here for the sole purpose of putting people down. And, it tends to be the same folks. Most of them have a large post count so obviously CC doesn't have a problem with them doing this. On most message boards I have frequented in the past these folks would have been banned a long time ago.

Very confused.

I see three high post count contributers on here, and all seemed to be helpful.

Don't worry about it. . .I was unaware of this (but I haven't gone on my cruise yet.)

That being said, I dont know why people feel the need to say ANYTHING. I dont know why they can't read it and say "Oh, I already knew that" and move on.

Instead they have to make the original poster feel like an idiot. It was new info to the original poster and probably new info to someone else.

I thought the 'First time cruiser' thread would be a little more understanding . . .but not really.

Irony n. , pl. , -nies . - Exhibiting snobbish behavior while discussing the proper technique for imbibing a blended whisky.

OP - Good info on the post, many obviously did not know this.

Most of your high end cruise lines will either let you bring your own alcohol on board, give you a one time set up free of charge in your cabin, or even have alcohol inclusive. Prepare to pay the price............

I will give one tip....

ALWAYS open your liquor boxes and check the contents before you get off the ship.

People are human and errors are made.....folks have reported getting home with rum when they bought vodka....etc.

Always open and check....

Very good advice. On our last cruise DW and I order a bottle of Grey Goose, for her parents, from the ship and when we got home we discovered it was some flavored kind (I think it with Citron or something). We all still enjoyed it for Thanksgiving dinner though! :D

I could see how someone who doesn't drink would not know that... There are things about the Casino I have no clue about...since we don't gamble much.

I wish they used these same rules in the casino,

(big win) "I'm sorry sir, we can not give you your winnings until the last night of the cruise."

To bad that will never happen.

If they gave you the booze early, think how much more they would sell, if you drank it on board.

Yeah, they'd sell more in the shops but it would cut down considerably on the bar take and that would lose them more money. I don't like it but I understand why they do it.

First I have to say that I love this site and have learned ALOT from here. I don't post very often, just kind of lurk around, and this thread shows the exact reason why I don't. Why do some of you people find the need to drag this person through the mud for trying to share something that they learned. Congrats that you and most others already knew this info. Obviously the OP did not, and I'm sure that many new members and new cruisers will not, and will have just learned something that will keep them from being disappointed when their trip comes around.

If you already know what is being posted, or don't like the topic I have a simple solution..That little arrow in the top left corner of your window will take you away from this page. There is no need to make someone feel dumb for posting something that they thought might help someone

I 100% agree with you. I am a first time cruiser and find that there is alot of things I do not know so I come on here to learn from all of the other cruisers. Just because some people may have already known this information, there are some of us who learn alot from these types of posts, so thank you for your post Mamatene.

Just returned from Glory. They have a "special" on first evening I believe (might be second night). Low Low price ...great deal right? What they dont tell you is that you CANNOT bring it to your cabin for consumption during the week. They deliver it to you on last night of the cruise.

When I was on the Paradise ('03) they did the same thing. :)

Hello fellow cruisers, my name is Gail and I am a first time cruiser this coming August...

Just want to make sure of something:

We are going on our first cruise in August out of Baltimore. I have read up some on the whole Bon Voyage thing. If I understand it correctly, I can purchase bottles of liquor that will be waiting for me in my room to drink while I am on my cruise? I drink Captain Rum. Read somewhere it is $40 for a liter..

Again, just making sure that if we buy the Rum through Bon Voyage before the cruise we can actually drink it while on the cruise??

(Ducking for cover:eek:)

No need to duck... not all posters are alike. Here's the difference:

If you order alcohol thru Bon Voyage, it will be delivered to your cabin and available for you to drink right off the bat. If you purchase alcohol on the ship at the Duty-free shop, they will hold it until the last night of the cruise, and deliver it then.

Obviously the difference here is price. You order thru BV and the bottle is $40, that same bottle you can buy in the giftshop for $18 or whatever, but that is the priceyou pay to drink it while onboard, and still way cheaper than buying it 'per drink' at the bar.

I use BV and love it! Well worth the cost.

Ok.. I understand now. I was a little confused at first when I read the original poster. Now, am I allowed then to bring my own mixers then? Like a few 2 ltr bottle of Diet cokes?

Thanks for the info! :)

Yes. They will let you bring on a 'resonable amount' or mixer. I might bring a twelver or soda instead of 2ltr bottles, but bringing soda is not a problem. Carry it on.
