Warning to folks buying booze onboard

first i have to say that i love this site and have learned alot from here. I don't post very often, just kind of lurk around, and this thread shows the exact reason why i don't. Why do some of you people find the need to drag this person through the mud for trying to share something that they learned. Congrats that you and most others already knew this info. Obviously the op did not, and i'm sure that many new members and new cruisers will not, and will have just learned something that will keep them from being disappointed when their trip comes around.

If you already know what is being posted, or don't like the topic i have a simple solution..that little arrow in the top left corner of your window will take you away from this page. There is no need to make someone feel dumb for posting something that they thought might help someone

ditto!

Just returned from Glory. They have a "special" on first evening I believe (might be second night). Low Low price ...great deal right? What they dont tell you is that you CANNOT bring it to your cabin for consumption during the week. They deliver it to you on last night of the cruise.

So...do they keep it at the bar for you with your name on it? And then whenever you order a drink they use your bottle? You say they deliver it to your room at end of cruise- so does that mean you can't drink it at all during the cruise?

I guess that stinks that you can't bring it to your room, but you must have saved a lot of money doing it that way.

My hubby is a big Crown and coke drinker- maybe they'll have a good deal on a bottle of crown...that bottle and a soda card would make my DH a happy man during our cruise. :)

I was buying some liquor and the woman in front of me bought 10 cartoons of cigs. The salesperson told her that she was only allowed x amount duty free. The woman said that is ok because she intends to smoke all of them before the end of the cruise. This was a 7 day cruise.

Asked why I couldn't take the liquor and she said well Carnival makes the rules and they want you to buy from the bar.

Thanks for that CruizinMom2...these folks made me feel like a jerk for even posting!

Don't let the grumpies push you around. I didn't know this on my first cruise. We're not all smart alecks. Don't let that keep you from posting. ;)

No, you cant drink from the liquor you buy from the duty free shop during the cruise (well other than the last night as mentioned above).

At the end they will box it up and deliver it to your stateroom the last night, .. late. They put mine on the bed, at least inside your cabin, so no one can steal it.

PS if your husband wants a bottle to drink, he can order it from bon voyage ahead of the cruise and have it delivered ... but it wouldnt be at duty free prices.

And you feel this was worth warning people about? Maybe you should also tell them not to run with sissors.

THANK YOU!! I frequent a lot of different message boards, and this one is by far the snarkiest. I don't understand why some of the posters here go out of their way to make others feel like idiots!! For people who vacation so much, there sure are a lot of grouches here!

I so agree with you but it shouldnt stop you from posting. I find it so funny that these people are so rude on here but in person on the cruise I bet you'll see nothing but people smiling and being polite. They use the computer to act like idiots...Not everyone on here cruises every other month..Some people on here are ACTUALLY GOING ON THEIR FIRST CRUISE!! WOW NO WAY!! and are trying to find info. They dont need to get replies like most that are on here...:D

I can care less if these people know whatever im posting about, I'll still post it..Point Blank! ;)

I could see how someone who doesn't drink would not know that... There are things about the Casino I have no clue about...since we don't gamble much.
What do you want to know? I have most of the answers.

Hey...what can I say..I'm not a drinker at all so I never read any of the post regarding booze, buying it, smuggling it etc. I just was passing along info that I heard from other folks that fell prey that I thought MIGHT be helpful. Geesh people!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I understand how others have felt around here with some of the responses received.
How EXACTLY did they FALL PREY? They bought something, they were given it at the end of their cruise. If they wanted to buy a bottle to drink in their cabin, they could have purchased that through the Bon Voyage department or through room service. Room service does charge the 15% gratuity.

So...do they keep it at the bar for you with your name on it? No, this is at the duty free shop, not one of the bars.

And then whenever you order a drink they use your bottle? Still a No.

You say they deliver it to your room at end of cruise- so does that mean you can't drink it at all during the cruise? Correctumundo.

I guess that stinks that you can't bring it to your room, but you must have saved a lot of money doing it that way. Yes, duty free shopping can save you some $$ if you know what the price of the item is at home.

He'll be happy if he likes drinking coke and coke. Which is IMO what someone who spoils Crown Royal by adding it to coke deserves. Crown Royal is meant to be sipped, not gulped when added to coke a cola.

"SNARKY" Yep...that about sums it up right to the letter as far as some of these folks are concerned! Appreciate your support!

From what I understood from the group in the store, they were NOT advised until AFTER they had already purchased the bottles that they COULDNT take it with them. They were under the impression that they would be taking the purchase along with them at the time they charged it to their sign and sail.

OK, folks... don't y'all think the OP has been beat up on enough? She said she's not a drinker and said that other folks were of the same opinion about when they would get their purchases.

I don't think it's unreasonable to think that an over zealous sales person 'forgot' to mention that the booze wouldn't be delivered until the last day of the cruise.

Fortunately, the OP is a fairly long time member and seems to have a pretty thick skin. A few simple replies of 'Yeah, that's been the rule for ages.' might have been better than piling on...

Just my $.02...

:)
