sf2 Posted October 16, 2010 #4 Share Posted October 16, 2010 They can be quiet, but not in the sense of a land version of "soundproof" - you might hear loud voices or a tv or a door slamming or a toilet flushing. Some rooms are better or worse than others depending on their location. Remember the ship is made of metal - and it is a moving, flexing thing on the water. rummenroman Posted October 16, 2010 #5 Share Posted October 16, 2010 No the staterooms are not soundproof. With that said you don't hear much when you are in them. You may hear the occasional neighbor toilet flush, or a door close in the hallway, but they have never been enough to disturb me in my sleep, and nothing that disturb or became obnoxious while in the stateroom. Can I ask....why do you ask?
cb at sea Posted October 16, 2010 #6 Share Posted October 16, 2010 No cabin is soundproof, but they are insulated to a degree. I'm not sure why everyone is so worried about noise...there are no jackhammers or other truly annoying, repetitive sounds. You WILL hear when loud folks pass your hallway doors...in ANY cabin. You will hear squeaking or closet door hinges. You will hear your toilet flush. You will hear occassional thumps and bumps. No place is totally quiet....not even your home! denamo Posted October 16, 2010 #7 Share Posted October 16, 2010 I wouldn't call them sound proof, but sound muffled unless the neighbors get really raucous and loud. We've never had a bad experience with noisy neighbors. You can definitely hear the cabin doors snap closed when you are in your cabin and people's voices going down the hall. No real problems to report on any Royal Caribbean ship we've sailed, however, I have heard others report of over zealous neighbors.
EVALUATOR Posted October 16, 2010 #8 Share Posted October 16, 2010 I've never thought to ask this. But, are the staterooms sound proof? No they are not sound proof. So if you tend to scream during certain activities, keep in mind your neighbors might hear you. P.S.... I meant like screaming at the television during political debates, or sporting events.:D:eek:

Grandiva Posted October 16, 2010 #12 Share Posted October 16, 2010 Soundproof? Are you kidding? One cruise I slept in Belero's (?) everynight. I didn't know if I should sleep or dance, or maybe dance in my sleep :D Never had enough noise/sound to complain about.

akcruz Posted October 16, 2010 #14 Share Posted October 16, 2010 Think hotel, the cabins are basically hotel rooms on the sea. In most hotels you can hear your neighbors if they get on the loud side. The same applies to your cabin.
eal Posted October 16, 2010 #15 Share Posted October 16, 2010 One cruise our neighbors woke us up every morning at 7:30 with the volume of their TV. I wanted to complain, couldn't sleep, but DH said it was their vacation too. On another cruise, the moans and groans were coming right thru the wall. That time I was sooooo jealous! :p
pcur Posted October 16, 2010 #16 Share Posted October 16, 2010 Earplugs help. Regarding the loud TV in the morning, it might be the cabin steward cleaning. They always turn on the TV while they are working in the cabins. Check next time, because he/she can turn it down. Maybe friend should go to the sports bar or casino and watch the games. LOTS of yelling there!

firefly333 Posted October 16, 2010 #18 Share Posted October 16, 2010 I often try to not flush the toilet at 3 am, wait until 6 or 7 am, just for that reason. Iv been woken up to that sound from a adjoining cabin.
sjcruiser Posted October 16, 2010 #19 Share Posted October 16, 2010 Never had a problem with noise, except those toilets!!! Oh, and the occasional drunks who can't find their rooms at 2am, so they have to bang on every door and call out the name of their cabin mates!!!
