pixiedustdawn Posted August 28, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2011 Don't know how long I will get WiFi, but just wanted to let everyone know we are doing fine. I just wrote a whole blog and then lost service. We are definitely rocking and rolling with loud creaks and banging all over the ship. The rocking has definitely affected passengers as well as crew members. The strange loud noises has definitely gotten to my poor daughter who went to sleep with her iPod and ear phones in. I am sure the Captain is doing his best to keep us as safe as possible. I will try to post again in the morning. As soon as we get further out I will be able to keep my fingers on the proper keys. Be safe. Dawn
lovevacadays Posted August 28, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2011 Hi Dawn, I hope you all have a great trip. I would imagine the seas are crazy and there most be some noise. Hopefully, you will soon be out of this and enjoying a wonderful cruise.

Hopefully, you will soon be out of this and enjoying a wonderful cruise. Thanks, we all pretty much knew what we were in for when we embarked. Better than staying home. I know they have removed furniture from the balconies and put them inside of the cabins as a security measure. Good thing too. Some may have caused problems, if not, more noise. Some people from last week have stayed onboard, due to not being able to get home today. (flights cancelled) I hear Princess is charging them $150.00 per night. Like one woman said, Hotels in NY were asking $400.00 a night and food and entertainment weren't even included! There is talk of some of these people possibly getting off in Halifax and trying to get home from there.

pixiedustdawn Posted August 28, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted August 28, 2011 Thanks for the report. I hope the sea will calm down soon for you. Thanks, It isn't horrible yet. It is quite interesting right now. If I weren't in my jammies, I would like to walk about the ship and see how many people are out there, I bet not many. (so, maybe I can walk around afterall.. :p ) I will report back in the a.m. as long as I still get wifi and all is well. Dawn
waltd Posted August 28, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 28, 2011 Thank You Dawn Hope you get a good nights sleep. I always take my sleeping pills for this type of situation. :) I was just wondering if you had heard how many people did not make the cruise due to the weather. Did you have any dificulty getting to the port ? We did this cruise last September and loved it. Thanks Joe
quincytoo Posted August 28, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 28, 2011 Thanks for posting this :) I was following your roll call as of last night and this morning. Glad to hear that some of the passengers stayed on board, you have all been in my thoughts all day. We got stuck in a storm off of LA two years ago and had 20 foot waves the last two days. We were eating in the Savoy and suddenly a large wave hit the window, we all jumped and smiled uneasily......very surreal. I woke up second to the last night and the bed was rolling only thing was Mr.Qt was sound asleep:eek:. I remember a bartender saying to have another drink and it would be easier to walk around the ship, so we did and it was easier :)

The hotel at $400 I assume is for two people. Is the Princess $150 for two people or for just one person?
StillPooh Posted August 28, 2011 #9 Share Posted August 28, 2011 I remember a bartender saying to have another drink and it would be easier to walk around the ship, so we did and it was easier :) When you're drunk, you don't expect the floor to be holding still. ;) It's why I'm never seasick. Stay safe, everybody! Thus far our power is still on, but the rain and wind are getting ridiculous.
RickEk Posted August 28, 2011 #10 Share Posted August 28, 2011 Probably a lot of the strange creaking sounds are the stabilizers. A few years back on the Golden Princess, we were at full speed trying to outrace Hurricane Wilma and the noise of the stabilizers was very loud. The heavier the seas, the more they're working. Did you have any dificulty getting to the port ? We did this cruise last September and loved it. Thanks Joe I do not have a number on how many missed this cruise. Many had flights that were cancelled. I had no problem getting to the port, as I only live in Long Island, and now wonder how my home is holding up. I have not yet slept and after hearing crashing noises all night long, decided to just stay awake in bed. Noises have a funny way of playing into your dreams. :p It is very hard to hear each other speak while in the cabin at this point. The ship is shuttering and bouncing, yet I thought it would be far worse than this. I still believe I am safer here than at home.

She claimed $150.00 for the cabin. Now, mind you, this is hearsay and not confirmed in any way.

A few years back on the Golden Princess, we were at full speed trying to outrace Hurricane Wilma and the noise of the stabilizers was very loud. The heavier the seas, the more they're working. Many strange sounds! I am sitting here holding onto my laptop and can not hear my daughter speak to me unless I look at her and she shouts. I had to put everything in our cabin in drawers since it all fell off shelves last night. Fruit rolling on the floor and me trying to pick up loose grapes and kiwis made me laugh. Felt as though I was drunk. Every time I went to get them they rolled away. Tried watching the news, but I losing connection to some channels. Not sure who's end it is on. Right now, the ship is completely empty. I walked around and saw not one person other than at guest services. That was the only one person. These stabilizers must really be working, since I can't even hear myself think. Dawn
hightownCO Posted August 28, 2011 #14 Share Posted August 28, 2011 Dawn, thanks so much for posting. Are they posting the sea heigth on the 'ship' channel on tv? I've been in 18' on the CB and was amazed at the sound too. Sitting in the casino was really bad! It was on Fiesta deck then and being that low at the front of the ship really was noisy. Yes, we are on the Fiesta deck also. We are in cabin F-311 Puerto Rico cabin. It is very noisy and I wonder if it is the entire ships cabin or just these cabins. Wave height reported on Ships Television Station is 12 to 18 feet right now. We are traveling at 15.4 knots. Dawn
Ann262 Posted August 28, 2011 #16 Share Posted August 28, 2011 OMG Dawn! I am glad you and your daughter are okay. So far, it doesn't sound like much fun. You are having an adventure the two of you will remember forever! Living on Long Island, being home wouldn't be much fun either and wondering about how things are at home will be something. Maybe they'll have the power back on and things cleaned up by the time you get back :D I wondered about the cruisers getting off the ship yesterday. I thought there would be a problem for many getting home. As for $400 a night for a hotel, I think that was just an anecdotal statement about cost of hotels in NY. Things are expensive in NY and it would be hard to get off the ship and just find a place under the circumstances. What a nightmare for people whose schedules don't have flexibility. I sure hope things settle down there for you and you two can start to enjoy you cruise. Keep us posted!

pixiedustdawn Posted August 28, 2011 Author #18 Share Posted August 28, 2011 Thanks Maria and Ann, We should be fine. It is just the relentless noise that is getting to everyone. The waves look huge from down on this level. Pretty and scary all at the same time. Mother Nature is really showing her power right now.
kicker Posted August 28, 2011 #19 Share Posted August 28, 2011 First of all, thanks for your reports. I was supposed to be on the 8/20 sailing but had to change for a family emergency, so I'm following this with personal interest. Maybe you're already doing this, but if not: I always save time by composing e-mails in a word program, then pasting them to the Net - saves money and internet time. I'll be looking forward to more reports (Hopefully after you get some rest!). No comments on the 8/20 thread yet from those cruisers - interested to hear their stories too. cormike1 Posted August 28, 2011 #20 Share Posted August 28, 2011 We are watching Anderson Cooper right now and they are showing Long Beach with water over the boardwalk and lots of flooding. They showed a lifeguard station house moved right up to the cement walkway. Waves area really high and lots of rain. The East River is just topping its banks right now so it is starting to flood lower manhattan. Lots more rain is expected although they are not reporting about high winds that were expected. Sheepshead bay was just on and the streets are flooded and everytime there is a wind surge you can see the waves coming over the ground. There is going to be lots of water damage I am sure. Stay safe pixie!!!

brooklynphil Posted August 28, 2011 #23 Share Posted August 28, 2011 We got of the ship yesterday to go home 20 minutes to our Coney Island apartment only to get evacuated. Anyway, every day was perfect weather. So we got lucky I guess. Good Luck.
