Menace of the Seas

After all you said a year ago, my only response is......huh?!

We all know the definition of insanity, need I say more?

On second thought - whose insanity? If ccer's respond to a new rant about how awful? Or the person cruising on a ship that was so hated the first time?

I do hope that you cancel. I cannot remember anything that you said to be positive, and why would you want to try something again that you thought was so unstable, that you thought it better to be part of an underwater sea garden, for the fish.

You did not like it then, and made more comments about anyone else's positive posts, like you were the only one that knew that the Monarch was in dire straights!

So, pray tell, why are you booking her again?

So that you can post 50 more times how terrible she is??

Please, for the rest of us on CC...........please let us know that you canceled your plans, which probably includes scuttling her, just to prove your point.

If you don't want to cancel her, at least let someone know, so that they can keep an eye on you!!:D

Aww, kiddng you, just come back and tell us how much fun you had.......this time!!;)

Rick

I totally hear ya Rick!!!!!! I did say there were some good things though. Such as "On a HIGH note, the food was excellent, the staff was excellent. The activities were plentiful. I would still highly recommend RCI. I think it is a great cruise line."

However, yes, I totally bashed the ship, and yes absolutely, i recommended it to become a coral reef after a controlled demolition approved by it's ownership. Am I insane as someone else said? More than likely. :D I always look for last minute deals because of where we live and this one came up on yesterday. So yes, I was like ugh!!!!!! But what the heck!!!!!! Let's try it again. Look on the bright side, if she is unstable and rocking and rolling like crazy, it tends to help my dice game. :D

As of now, NO cancel!!!!!! We are a go for launch. LOL!!!!!!! :p

We just got off the Monarch yesterday. My family had a wonderful time. We didn't have any issues with the ship. She may not be the biggest or newest, but she fed us well! :)

I hope you have a better experience this time. It was a little rocky for us, but I use the Transderm Scop patch.

Did they stop at coco cay or did they have to skip it?

I hope you have a great cruise! We did a B2B in September (our first time on Monarch) and really enjoyed it. We did not notice any more movement than usual but we may have just had calmer seas than you did. The week before us was pretty rough due to a storm but we got lucky. Food was very good.

We went to Coco Cay on both legs. Actually, we have been scheduled for Coco Cay on 6 of our cruises and have never missed it! We are going on the Majesty in January so we'll see if our record holds!:D

Thanks for the report here. Glad to hear you stopped at Coco Cay. I haven't been there in awhile. When we went on the Monarch we skipped the port of call due to rough seas. I couldn't help myself booking this one again, though. Also, this was perhaps, the one cruise EVER in the history of my gambling that i PASSED on the casino. I didn't play at all on the Monarch. It was that bad. I little rocking and rolling is fine but it was quite excessive at the time. The time of the cruise is convenient and the price was right. Hopefully, the upgrade fairy will visit me like she did on the Celebrity. :D

I was on the same sailing. The first night was probably one of the more rocky nights I've experienced on the Monarch.

Next morning all was back to normal. We did stop in CocoCay. The water was calm, the air was the perfect temp.

Overall it was a great cruise! Love those Liberty Hounds and Kelley in the Schooner.

I'm with the original opinion... the Dump of the Seas won't be missed one bit by me!

She will officially be S.E.P. in a few brief months!!!

OMG the "Dump of the Seas" haha :p

Hopefully, it will end well. I put up my cuckoo clock (countdown clock) on my signature. hahaha :D

I don't have time to read seven page of a thread that is a year old, but let me say this... I read your problem as "the ship does not handle rough seas well". This is nothing to do with its age. The handling characteristics do not change as the ship ages. Compared to other ships, maybe the suceptability to waves has more to do with its size?

Certainly the ship seems to be running efficiently. On our last cruise, the captain said we had been able to maintain at cruising speed on only one engine most of the time (the ship has four), and only had to start up a second because we had strong headwinds.

I agree, but with the caveat that it wouldn't be that the ship handles more poorly as time goes on... but that newer ships handle better as time goes on because of upgraded technology.

In 1991, the Motor Trend car of the year was the Caprice Classic. If you found one that someone had taken amazing care of and compared that to the 2013 car of the year (Tesla Model S) it would be lacking in ways you couldn't even imagine.

Where is the nav system on the Caprice? Does it get 89 mpg? How many air bags?

The Monarch shouldn't have a stabilizer that gets worse with time, it just has a worse stabilizer system.

To all the rubberneckers that don't like this thread, welcome back!!!!!! :D

Well so far so good!!!!! I THINK!!!!!

I booked an inside guarantee. I checked the online check in and saw we were assigned a cabin right in the front and left of the ship. YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would have lived with it but thank goodness, a search on Cruise Critic I learned that you can pull a switcharoo with another cabin in the same category and and deck. There was one cabin that was still available right in the middle of the ship. I was able to switch so we are on a lower deck right towards the middle. So hopefully, this will be smooth sailing. :D

I was just going to post this, but it takes toooooo long to download, and to read. Try this in stead,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS_Monarch_of_the_Seas

Could be a ghost ship LOL.

We have been on her many times She has been trough a lot, still a great ship for short getaways, heck not bad for B2B which a lot of Floridians use her for. She has seen her day and needs a major over hall and did I say major, including room sizes etc. We hope to do one last cruise on her before she leaves the fleet.

Thanks for the update!!!!! I see you live close by. You are running outta time. Only a matter of months and she is no longer with RCI. This weekend and the following weekend $99 inside guarantee. There are plenty of rooms and when you get assigned you can call up and move your cabin to a better spot on the same deck. Great deal and hopefully, my personal experience will be better. Some say I am crazy and insane for going back, and they are right. I am not in denial. :D

ok here it is....you paid $99 for a cruise on a ship that you hate. doesn't leave you much room for complaining imho.

I was in the Owner's Suite on my first time on Monarch when my experience happened. What's your point?

I would take a $99 cabin that is smooth and without people throwing up every five minutes rather than an Owner's Suite that you need to tie a rope around your waste and hitch it to the bedpost so you don't end up on the floor. Thanks for your input, though! :p

my point is that if you didn't like the way the ship "handles" cruising in an owners suite, what makes you think it will be any different THIS hurricane season in steerage? :p

Actually she is being transferred to Pullmantur, an RCCL corporation subsidiary, and will be home ported in Curacao. Hope you have a much better cruise this time. We are going on the last 4 night to say goodbye to all our friends who will be spread to the winds in the RCL fleet!!!

So does this mean RCL will still "own" the ship??????
