I'm not as angry with the OP as some of ya'll. ;-)

Try checking this site closer to sail away and it will help you predict if seas will be rough and you might miss Coco Cay or need to start on motion sickness meds ahead of time. Somehow knowing what you are in for might make it less disappointing if you do run into weather and the ship rocks a lot.

I think at your rate and staying low and midship you are on the right track to have a better time than last cruise and spend a lot less so it may even out your Monarch experience. Good luck.

Royal Caribbean International is the cruise owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.

RCCL also owns: Celebrity Cruises, Azamara Cruises, Pullmantur and CDF Croisières de France

You have it backwards. RCI Royal Caribbean International encompasses:

RCCL (Royal Caribbean Cruise Limited)

Celebrity

Azamara

Pullmantur

CDF

Sorry, Eng23, but you're the one that has it backwards. RCCL (Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD) is the parent company that owns RCI (Royal Caribbean International). :o

If you don't want to cancel her, at least let someone know, so that they can keep an eye on you!!:D

Yes, I plan on being there. Will talk more about it in the roll call thread and we can hope for the best at sailaway. This is my cuckoo cruise and I really do want to work it out. Hopefully, I will be able to shoot dice this go around. I couldn't play last time I was on the Monarch as I couldn't concentrate. I felt like I was on the Poseidon. I am looking forward to it. I think it can only get better.

I had too many open windows on the computer this morning and lost track of what I was typing. I was trying to answer a similar question for someone else and typed the wrong info into both posts. I wasn't paying enough attention to what I was doing....:o

  • 2 weeks later...

Well I have returned from my second voyage on the Monarch of the Seas.......

If you are interested in how it went, continue reading. If not on the upper left and corner of your screen should be a back button and you can exit the thread. It never ceases to amaze me how people get so riled up over negative reviews. Just because someone doesn't like something, one should not get upset. So if you are one of those people. Please exit stage left.

CRUISE PARKING OF PORT CANAVERAL: Parked the car there. Off site and not too many reviews of this place. It was excellent and paid $5.99 per day. Pick up was a cinch and I would use their service again.

CHECK IN: Went very smoothly. One person at security was confused about the two wine bottles I was bringing on but immediately this lady said it was fine and that two bottles of wine are allowed per cabin. No problems. We got there early and checked in and got are cabin cards. Sat in the chairs and enjoyed the hot coffee they had there for us.

BOARDING: 11:30 on the dot they started letting us on the ship. We went right to the Windjammer and had lunch.

CABIN: Right smack in the middle of the ship. Interior guarantee. Very small but not as bad as I thought it would be. Our stateroom attendant was great and had ice in our cabin for our wine everyday.

FOOD: Absolutely delicious. I had one entree that i did not like and simply ordered another and it was PERFECT. The desert selections were amazing and the steak they had night was great and no need to spend additional for the chops steak.

STAFF: All staff on this ship were great. NO problems whatsoever.

CASINO: Played in the casino often and it was an enjoyable experience. The dealers were friendly and attentive.

OTHER CRUISERS: Those from the roll all were great and went to Nassau with several. Headed to cable beach on jitney #10 to try the Daiquiry Shack. They are the best drinks ever. You MUST go there!!!!!!!!! Then we headed to the fish fry and had lunch at Twin Brothers. OMG----I had TWO bowls of the conch chowder. Absolutely delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, there were a couple jerks on the ship. There is a sign that says NO JOGGING and NO POWER WALKING on deck 7 from 10pm to 10am. We walked around the deck (not power) at 7am but others were jogging at that time and were snickering as to why we were in their way when they were passing us. I asked one person if they read the sign as they passed and it appears I got the one finger salute. ***??????????????

It is inconsiderate to jog at those hours on deck 7. Some people simply have no class.

CLEANLINESS: The ship is spic and span. Passes white glove test in a heartbeat. No fruit flies anywhere. It appears they cleaned up their act.

ACTIVITIES: GREAT SHOWS and the music was awesome. Two hotubs to relax in. CocoCay we did the 8.5 Sea Doo tour of the Berry Islands. Worth every penny. Do it!!!!!!!!!!

HANDLING OF THE SHIP: The ship to me still had that weird slanting feel to me as before. I felt like I was higher up on one side than on the other. Other people didn't notice it as much as me. I guess it is something that just bothers me but nobody else seemed to notice or care. The ship was smooth expecially in the interior cabin. We almost never felt the ship moving. This was a much BETTER feel than was last time.

In summary, if you are scheduled to go on the Monarch, and the seas cooperate, you will have a great experience. Go hungry as the food is delicious. It is nice to sit and have a meal you can enjoy. And if there is something you don't like ORDER SOMETHING ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy the cruise and those who are considering going on her, try to find a great deal the week before the cruise. They are available.

Thank you for your attention!!!!! :p

I've sailed on the Majesty twice, and never noticed any serious stability problems. When I sailed on the Rhapsody to Alaska in the summer of 2011, the rocking and rolling got so bad, that the crew had to drain the pools.

I was on the Jewel in October, and it also did some rolling in winds of 30, gusting to 45.

Boo Hoo Hoo

NOTE: NOT A ONE POST WONDER HERE-telling it like it is

Wow!!!!! Recently got of the Menace of the Seas, errrr Monarch.

Man that ship needs to be retired. I think there is seriously something wrong with that ship. That ship cannot handle waves at all. Rocking all over the place. I do not have any facts to support this, but someone told me on the cruise before it had some listing issues that had to be corrected before our sailing. It did feel at times the ship was not perfectly stable at times. Either the ship has NO stabiizers or they simply don't work right.

Yes, there was a weather front coming in but the ship handles horribly. I have been on other ships, RCI included in seas much worse and didn't have the experience we had. We were unable to stop at Coco Cay because of the seas, but that is not RCI fault nor does it make me angry and resulting in my negative post about the ship. I am just telling it like it is from a real CC poster.

On a HIGH note, the food was excellent, the staff was excellent. The activities were plentiful. I would still highly recommend RCI. I think it is a great cruise line. But, they need to make the Monarch into a coral reef already.

Let the bashing begin. Hopefully, not as I am just telling it like it is.

I always get a big kick when people take a cruise and then realize that the ship might MOVE! If the movement of the ship is an issue, you could spend less money on a resort hotel on the beach and it's pretty sure not to move nearly as much as a cruise ship does.

Just an observation from a guy who enjoys the movement of a ship when underway...

We were on the same sailing and I could not agree more. The ship is very well kept and the food was great. We had a SO on deck 9 and I could not have been happier with that CAT cabin. We had our two year old with us and his crib fit perfect. I was also very pleased with how awesome the crew was, they treated our son like royalty and it was much appreciated. NOW I have been on a lot of cruises and I totally agree with you that the ship seemed to be listing at all times, now I thought I was nuts at first, but I for sure noticed it. Awesome cruise!!

You totally missed my point. Anyway, why bother? Thanks for checking in though.

Yo Eleven! Welcome back! I've always enjoyed Monarch, and hate that I won't be able to take a final ride before she leaves the fleet next Spring. So glad that you had a terrific sailing this time.

By the way, was my favorite Cruise Director Marc Walker, on the ship with you all? He keeps me in stitches with his humor!

I was also on this sailing and had 2 new cruisers with me. They both noticed the feeling you are talking about. At some places the floor feels slanted and at others it does feel like you are at a different level on the same floor.

I have been on this ship many times and never really noticed it until this weekend.

I am extremely prone to motion sickness of any type, and esp sea sickness, so I swear by the patches and supplement with Bonine. I did really well on the Monarch so I'm surprised to see someone mention extreme motion. I sailed the Monarch in August and never sensed any real motion and was never sick.

The ship definitely showed some signs of age (worn carpet in high traffic areas, slightly dated decor) but nothing at all that would in any way deter me from sailing her again. We had picked it due to my tight school schedule but wouldn't hesitate to book again if it fit our schedule.

I don't think Monarch or Majesty has stabilizers. Currently Splendour is receiving a duck tail to make her more stable. I haven't heard of any plans to add one to Monarch or Majesty.

I doubt any work will be done to Monarch by RCL. She's moving to Pullmantur Cruises sometime in late March / early April.
