Menace of the Seas

Yo Eleven, Happy to read you had a good get away on Monarch.

I hope you do not have too many responders who only read your original post and not your update. But sometimes, what seems like a good idea at the time can not over come the unwillingness of people to read all the posts. :D

I was also on this sailing and had 2 new cruisers with me. They both noticed the feeling you are talking about. At some places the floor feels slanted and at others it does feel like you are at a different level on the same floor.

I have been on this ship many times and never really noticed it until this weekend.

BINGO!!!!!!!!!! That is exactly what I am talking about. And this coming from an experienced cruiser. Something simply is a little off on the ship it looks like. As I said, it really bugged me, but for most nobody cared. I think if the seas get high enough which they were on my first cruise on monarch last year, the ship simply handled sloppy. Perhaps because of the way she is set in the sea, perhaps?????

I was told the Manarch is a ship you choose for the ports, not so much the ship. :) But that being said, I think the oldest RCI ship is still going to be a great vacation!

The ports are the reason I chose Majesty over Monarch twice. At least with Majesty you get Key West and I believe Monarch has a Sea day? I loved Majesty, but don't need 2 sea days of a 4 day cruise.

On Monarch the four day cruises go to Nassau, Coco Cay and have a sea day. On Majesty it's Key West, Coco Cay and Nassau. Not necessarily in that order for either one.

So you'd only have two sea days on Monarch if Coco Cay had to be skipped. Which, let's be honest, happens more than they'll admit.

I agree with you, two sea days on Monarch would be a bit much for my tastes.

I doubt any work will be done to Monarch by RCL. She's moving to Pullmantur Cruises sometime in late March / early April.

Monarch's last sailing with Royal Caribbean is March 29, 2013. Just in case you were wondering. :)

an after effect of when it sank?

http://marinecasualty.com/documents/monarch.pdf

At approximately 0030 hours on the night of 15 December 1998, the passenger vessel

MONARCH OF THE SEAS arrived outside of Great Bay, St. Maarten in order to evacuate a

sick passenger to a shore side medical facility. At 0125 the vessel's crew completed the

passenger evacuation evolution and the MONARCH OF THE SEAS departed St. Maarten,

taking a South-Southeasterly departure route with the intention of safely passing to the east of the Proselyte reef obstruction. At approximately 01 30 hours the MONARCH OF THE SEAS raked the Proselyte Reef at an approximate speed of about 12 knots without becoming permanently stranded. Almost immediately emergency and abandon ship signals were sounded and the crew and passengers were mustered at their abandon ship stations. At 0235 the vessel was intentionally grounded on a sandbar in Great Bay, St. Maarten. By 05 15 hours all 2,557 passengers were safely evacuated ashore by shore based tender vessels.

I would hardly call this a sinking.

I really hope some people get on here and have some good things to say about the Monarch!! because we have 16 cabins of people sailing on her for spring break in March!! and are soooo looking forward to it!! We have sailed on 3 other RCI ships several times before but this will be our first on this ship. This one worked out perfect for our kids spring break so we are giving it a try. We are not real picky and our kids just love any cruise!!! Sorry you feel this way about the Monarch!

Was on the Monarch in Aug with my granddaughter for her 10th Birthday and 1st cruise. we had a great time and she lived the kids program. The staff great food good and the ship was fine sailing even in hurrcaine season

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect yours. My guess is if you were on her last sailing you would understand why I would do cartwheels watching it being cut into two and turned into a beautiful coral reef.

She is being retired next spring and sold the the same spanish company that bought Nortic and Sovereign. She will be in good hands with her sister ships. I think cutting her up is mean. Shall we do that to you when you get to old!!

We have been on the Monarch 5 times... most recently the week of Dec. 10 to celebrate DH birthday on 12/12. The ship rocks and rolls but it is what it is and for the price you can't beat it. We live in CA so when we head to FL we like to give RCI our business and were on the Freedom Thanksgiving week. Sure, there is a big difference between the Freedom and the Monarch but IMO the staff on the Monarch are hands down the best around!

Those wondering about the casino, DH and I rolled the dice and lets just say the odds weren't with the house on 12/12. :-)

Monarch serves a purpose for sure and we are sad to see her go!

My first sailing on any RCI ship was Monarch on Dec. 14. I didn't know what to expect, my vision was a dark interior. I almost fell over when I boarded to see the gorgeous atrium, welcoming staff members, warmth of the people. Was it rocking when we left port, oh, yes, but I knew that meant we were on a cruise. Everyone was jovial about how we all walked like we had too much to drink. Our sailing also was one of the lucky ones that made it to Coco Cay, but coming back to the ship was really a jolt. Once back on board, all was well. Thought I had died and gone to heaven in the casino with the actual use of real money vs all the electronic jargon on other ships. I kept a few people employed while there, left empty handed and had a ball doing it.
