Where did the Oasis electrician get his college degree? *and review*

Well for STARTERS, Oasis of the Seas IS the best ship i have ever cruised on. It was amazing. There are countless threads here describing its amazing features. I won't repeat ALL them because you know all of them pretty much. I will get to the electrician in a moment. I will touch up on some highlights though. I will say it has the nicest and largest casino i have ever seen on a cruise ship. Two craps tables is a major plus.

 

CHOPS grille-totally awesome. The shrimp coctail was the best.

excellent steaks and sides. Shell out the 35 bucks per person for it. You won't regret it. Staff was amazing.

 

Comedy Show-HILAROUS-i saw it three times. Yes it is the same show but there were some variances because of crowd differences. I laughed harder each time.

 

I never was into broadway style shows but for me I found them good. If you are into this stuff you will love it. Ice skating show was great. See it.

 

The food in main dining room. Very good. I order no less than two entrees per night. The lobster actually was VERY good. Don't miss lobster night.

 

We did character breakfast. Kids loved it. I didn't want anything off the menu but they let me order off regular one which was cool.

 

Zip Line and flowrider is fun. Sign up when you get on ship to avoid crowds.

 

Ports of call. jamaica and cozumel and labadee. All fun. Did dragon coaster, zip line, dunns river falls, green grotto caves, stingray city.

They rip you off on the photos though. Decide if you really think they are worth it. Maybe make them an offer.

 

The ship was NOT perfect though. Now to my rant. Where did RCI find their electrician? Did he get he degree at K-mart? Most idiotic design for the electrical plugs ever!!!!!!!!!! It took us 10 mins to find the darn things and when we did you have to crawl on your hands and knees to get to them. So stupid......OTHER THAN THAT the ship was GREAT! Thumbs up. :D

I do not think my electrician at home has a college degree. Not that I'd ask, because I wouldn't care if he did. Any way, your beef seems to be with the designers not the on board electricians...Glad That is your biggest beef and I am glad you had a great cruise.

Did you bother to ask your cabin steward? He or she can answer any questions you have in regards to your cabin. In my opinion, they dont want too many extra outlets because then they have to use more energy and that means more fuel burning $$$$

The design flaw on the Oasis, and it was a design flaw and not the fault of the electricians who installed the outlets in the staterooms, was corrected when they built Allure. At some point it would seem incumbent on them to reconfigure the outlet placements on Oasis to match the more easily accessible ones found on Allure.:)

To start, your issue here is with the engineers not the electricians. As a former electrician I can tell you we had many problems with how engineers designed things but did not have the authority to make changes based on our experience. We always had to “follow the plan” and, yes, usually get blamed for the outcome. The engineers had the degrees, we had the knowledge. Go figure.:)

I'm glad you had a great cruise in spite of that issue.

Not to be too critical because they are great ships but shouldn't they have learned over the years the most practical place for outlets?

 

Hmm, the EE in my family does not call himself an electrician with a degree. For that matter, the ChemE's do not call themselves chemists; the ME does not call himself a mechanic. Hey, it is a small sample, but they are proud to be engineers and rightly so. If you are an EE and wish to call yourself "an electrician with a degree," fine by me.

 

FWIW, I was able to easily find and use the outlets. Not the perfect spot, but if that is one's biggest complaint about a ship, it speaks to an amazing job in the design and build phases as well as in operation of the vessel.

Merion Mom... do you take pictures of everything in your cabin? I've noticed a few times if someone is asking about something in the cabin you happen to have a picture of it.. no matter how obscure. I am so impressed!

Im sure RCCL got tons of letters complaining that the outlets on the vanity were hard to use and when in use the stuff that was plugged in was in the way, so couldnt they move them to a more out of the way spot so as not to clutter the vanity.

 

Thus the designers thought it would make more sense to put them under the vanity to get them out of the way.

 

If you look at the photo above you can see there is a power bar plugged into the outlet and every thing gets plugged into the power bar.

 

I didnt mind the outlets under the vanity, except I am 6 foot and the cord on the hairdryer was not long enough to reach the top of my head when plugged in, so I had to squat or sit to do my hair.

Uh........

No-they didn't give us his phone number when we arrived to the ship.

 

We got there as soon as they let us in our cabin around 1pm. I wanted to plug in phone to charge battery. It would have taken me longer to look for the cabin steward than finding those stupidly placed electrical outlets.

As was I. It pays to be a member of Cruise Critic. Those outlets have been a topic of discussion since Oasis made its inaugural voyage.

I must have had my head in the sand, because I never seen a discussion about it. O well. At least it appears I am not the only one who thinks the design is stupid.

I´m not sure why you are blaming the electrician. He´s only working after the plans of the designer. So blame the cabin designer!!

 

It´s a problem which occured on the very first day the Oasis came out. On the Allure they didn´t change the cabin design but put a socket on the vanity table with a cord plugged into the original outlets. It´s been said that this will be done on the Oasis too but obviously they haven´t done it yet.
