brooklynfc Posted February 9, 2012 #6 Share Posted February 9, 2012 Don't they just have like two ports for Carnival on the West Coast. I mean I don't really pay attention to the West Coast b/c its way to expensive to do a cruise over there for me. But I think the East Coast has it made with all the different ports available and different classes spanning the coast line.
Rare shof515 Posted February 9, 2012 #7 Share Posted February 9, 2012 after all these years, us metro folk are about to lose what i consider the best class of the carnival fleet. Sadly, this is a business transaction for Carnival. Carnival saw the market increase, and therefore want to cramp another 800-900 passengers on a ship for more revenue :( I too prefer the less crowded ships like the Miracle

bythehex Posted February 9, 2012 #10 Share Posted February 9, 2012 after all these years, us metro folk are about to lose what i consider the best class of the carnival fleet. If you consider NY getting a larger ship with capacity for more passengers cheated then I guess they are. On the flip side, maybe the folks who don't like the Miracle's class of ship and prefer the larger size will be more inclined to cruise from NY? I like both sizes, larger and smaller. But I don't cruise out of NY because even living in NJ it's much easier to get to the Pride in Baltimore. The two hours it takes to fight NYC traffic to get to the ship, plus paying twice as much to park in NY at the port, makes the trip to Baltimore much more enjoyable. East Coast for CCL (as I recall): NY, Baltimore, Charleston, Jacksonville, Pt. Canaveral, Ft Lauderdale, Miami (you could include Tampa as well although that's considered "Gulf") West Coast: LA and San Diego (and Seattle/Vancouver in the Summer for Alaska)

It is larger because of several additional decks of passenger cabins. The extra width of the ship (Miracle is actually longer) does not make up for the 40% increase in passenger capacity. I am guessing that by 'cheated' he means that NY gets an over-crowded ship rather than the nice passenger flow of the Spirit class.

Rare shof515 Posted February 9, 2012 #17 Share Posted February 9, 2012 NY should have 3 ships and Boston should have 2;) too bad the brooklyn terminal hardly gets used.. It will be soo much better to have one ship at manhatten peir and the other goes to brooklyn instead of manhattan having 2 ships while the brooklyn terminal sits idle. ..It can also speed up check in, porter issues, parking, etc

iceleven Posted February 9, 2012 #24 Share Posted February 9, 2012 We did the Mexican Riviera with Splendor last fall. It was nice to only have an hour flight from SFO to get to the terminal in Long Beach. Not overly excited about doing that itinerary again, even if it would be on the Miracle, unless they were to drop the 2nd day in Cabo and make it two days in PV instead or add on a third port. I guess the Alaska cruise will be a positive cash-flow for Carnival. I've taken that cruise on HAL and NCL and it really is a beautiful cruise. I'll give Carnival a shot at that probably next year. I haven't been on a Spirit class ship yet so it will be worth trying it but I cannot imagine it will beat out HAL other than in the pricing. Splendor, even with all her pink, was a nice enough ship. I enjoyed the Cloud 9 spa deck and all the steam rooms and T-pool but I am looking forward to trying the smaller Miracle. A thousand less people on board is a plus-plus for me. If we had the time, I'd love to take her across to Hawaii and back. Change is good.
