Book a Carnival cruise while on Princess

We have always been able to book a future cruise while on Princess through the Captain Circle promotions. This was usually with a deposit and they, in turn gave us a good Cabin Credit.

Does anyone know if we could book a Carnival cruise while on the Princess and still get the cabin credit.

Even though both are owned by the same corporation their incentive programs are completely separate. Their headquarters are even in different locations. The only thing that carries between Carnival Corp ships is the stockholders benefit.

You can't book a Carnival cruise during a Princess cruise.

The Future Cruise Consultant can't access the Carnival booking syste.

FCC can't be applied to other cruise line in the Carnival Group.

Correct. The same as a Cheerios coupon can't be used for Haagen Dazs ice cream (both are brands of General Mills.) The Carnival Corporation (the holding company, not the cruise line) brands are completely separate although if you own stock in the corporation, you get the OBC benefit on any of their brands (cruise lines.)

DH has said for years that we should be able to book other CCL brands while on any CCL brand cruise. Mr. Arison, I'm sure, is less concerned about which brand we'd book as long as we'd book something. And the best time to sell to someone is while they're in the store, so to speak. So if someone decides Princess isn't quite right for them, why not have the FC Consultant steer them to another CCL brand instead of allowing them to go home and choose RC instead?

It's particularly curious because the booking engine for Princess, Polar Online, is also the booking engine for HAL and Cunard.

I would not expect the Princess Futrue Cruise Consultant to be knowledgable enought about other than Princess cruises. To be asking that person to be able to answer detailed questions about the ships and itineraries of more than five other lines would be too much.

Every TA has to be able to do this, and not just for CCL products, and not just for cruise lines. Actually, it would be far easier to be only a CCL specialist than what most TAs do everyday. Certainly, most FC Consultants on board ships have far more travel experience to draw on than most TAs, so knowledge about ports around the world is almost a given.

Every TA should be able to do this, but as many postings on Cruise Critic have shown, many fall short of being able to.

And a TA has the ability to ask questions of other TAs in his/her office and if needed to make immediate calls to any cruise line they need to in order to get proper information. As effectively the only TA on the ship, the Future Cruise Consultant does not have these resources available.

On most Princess cruises I have been on in recent years, the Future Cruise consultant has had long lines outside his/her office for much of the cruise. I would hate to be waiting in line even longer to book my Princess cruise while waiting for people to book a cruise on Costa.

OP: My first sailing on a CCL line was with HAL. There was a (nearly?) continuously streamed videontalking about the CCL family and how we, after ou sailing, were part of that, so I wondered about the relationship and possible benefits as well. I discovered that it was largely a marketing database relationship:p. (Actually this worked out quite well for us because it led us to Princess, which we have sailed quite a bit!) The exception of course is the CCL stock credit, which is available on all the lines. This is different than the RCCL/Celebrity relationship where there is recognition of loyalty club membership, etc.

I agree about the lines. That's why I would add another FC Consultant, or maybe two. This is one of the most valuable positions in the ship. And the FC Consultants have easy access to FC consultants on other ships; surely they could email their counterparts on other cruise lines too, or land based res agents. At a minimum, they could sell FCCs for the other cruise lines. Or perhaps an FCC should cover all CCL brands.

Sorry, but I remain convinced that they should be allowed to book all CCL. I really don't think it's beyond their ability to do so.

Isn't that the truth. They have the best job on the ship. Nine out of ten times I go down to see them, the door is closed and when they finally are around, there are a dozen or more people waiting to see them. I usually end up seeing them the last afternoon and then I don't receive any paper work until I get home.

On our Star cruise in March, the Future Cruise Consultant was "open" for only a few hours every few days. The line was always very long because he was almost never there. I have no idea what this guy did with all the time he wasn't on duty. I can understand spending time following up on bookings and paperwork but there were sometimes 2-3 days between when he was there.

I haven't been impressed with the product knowledge of either the on board future cruise consultants or the people that work in Princess customer service. I can only imagine what it would be like if they expanded their world....

Well, you could always book a cruise on another line in the Internet Cafe... :p

But you wouldn't have the FCC benefit. Why shouldn't we get the benefit of being able to purchase FCCs for another CCL cruise line while on Princess? They claim that there is special "World's Leading Cruise Lines" pricing benefits for being a past passenger, but I've never seen proof of that. Why not a CCL FCC instead of just a Princess FCC? (And please don't say it's because they offer different benefits because again I'll wonder why.) It's thinking outside the box, but not that far outside the box.

The FC Consultant position definitely needs to have one or two more people, especially on the larger ships. Why not do away with the wasted space and all the unused monitors in the FC area and make room instead for one or two more desks? When this position first started on NCL, the cruise director did the bookings (really). It's obvious now how much it has grown in importance. There is an entire channel on the cabin TVs dedicated to getting passengers psyched to book another cruise, a video that also depicts the attributes of the other CCL cruise lines. It just seems strange that the position is then limited to one person booking one cruise line with a constant waiting line outside his/her office.

My thoughts exactly! I don't even bother trying to speak to them in person anymore. I get far better information from my TA and here on the CC boards. :)
