gcvt Posted May 11, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2012 Took a couple pics of Golden on her way to dry dock today. First one has Alcatraz in the background. We can see her back half from our balcony - she seems happy enough. Hoping to get down there to get more pics soon.

gcvt Posted May 11, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted May 11, 2012 Forgot to mention...there was some talk in the other thread about her sailing up from Los Angeles empty. She was very empty - not a soul in sight. Passing under the Golden Gate bridge in to SF would have had the decks packed, of course. We didn't see a single person. It was kind of weird looking actually. Anyone know exactly how long she'll be here and when might be the best time to drive down and take photos of her in dry dock? Luvmyrotti Posted May 11, 2012 #6 Share Posted May 11, 2012 What work is being done while she's in dry dock? Are they adding alfredo's and vines?
Chuck1j Posted May 11, 2012 #7 Share Posted May 11, 2012 She will be there until the 19th of May. She sails from SF on the 20th.
AndrewENG Posted May 11, 2012 #8 Share Posted May 11, 2012 I was on the cruise just prior to this; the date noted above sound accurate. Staff regularly mentioned going to dry dock for like ~9 days. The Hawaii cruises are over and now the Golden is prepping to start the Alaska cruises. I'm assuming the dry dock is to get the ship ready for this new tour (paint hull; fixes; etc). The cruise director mentioned "bringing on board carpeting, etc" but never mentioned any major changes. Sounded like maintenance. The ship is empty of passengers and a lot of crew also left at LA for home/vacation of their own.
robgvic Posted May 11, 2012 #9 Share Posted May 11, 2012 It is great to know they are dry docking her to get her ready for our short sailing on May 20 to Vancouver.
casavaha Posted May 11, 2012 #10 Share Posted May 11, 2012 The Golden allready has Vines, had some great wine tastings last Christmas. I was hoping they would put in an Alfredo's but I think not. Great pics, no fog. We will be on the Star this Sunday, I hope with the same weather. Greg
Belle Posted May 12, 2012 #11 Share Posted May 12, 2012 Was on her 3-28 to 4-25-12 Dry dock only 10 days. Just tech work..paint, new carpets. NO major changes! Just maintances. NO..Alfredo's NOT..Taking off Skywalkers Alot of the crew going on vacation but the ones staying on will be cleaning but will have some time off. Casino and Show crew have more time off. They all couldn't wait to get to SF and see the sights! They got good weather to see the city but sure it will change..it always does! They will have fun. I guess we'll see when we board in three weeks or so. :)We will be waiting for your post. We were on the Golden before and after her major drydock and will be on her again this September, our fourth time. I doubt they can make any major changes during this short drydock. kubies Posted May 12, 2012 #14 Share Posted May 12, 2012 From a local: Crew will have spectacular weather while in "drydock/wetdock". Happy to know that Princess is sprucing up the Golden for cruise with my sister in August.:)

Belle Posted May 12, 2012 #16 Share Posted May 12, 2012 Talked to CD and others. They (Princess) like the Golden the way she is. Nothing will be added, nothing will be taken away. Plus if they were, wouldn't be done in ten days. Things can always change but I don't think so.
c-legs Posted May 12, 2012 #17 Share Posted May 12, 2012 Is she going to Hunter's yard is the Bay for a full drydock...or part time drydock and part wetdock back at #70 ? I wonder if some major plumbing// AC maintenance work will take place while in drydock. Overall carpet replacement can be done in wet dock ( a ''parking lot'' much less expensive than drydock space....). Cheers
Belle Posted May 12, 2012 #18 Share Posted May 12, 2012 Someone saw her hull being painted today. Think doing things they can't do at sea. Probably checking engine ect. Plus cleanng at the same time, new carpets in public rooms. That's was what I was told.
gcvt Posted May 12, 2012 Author #19 Share Posted May 12, 2012 Went down to see her today and snapped a few pics... The crane near the front of the ship in the 4th and 5th pics was very active this afternoon but I couldn't see what it was lifting. That's her dead center way off in the distance... Rare cr8tiv1 Posted May 12, 2012 #20 Share Posted May 12, 2012 Posting this question in several places. I called Princess today and they said that I could not drop off my luggage any earlier than 11:30 AM on Sunday, May 20th because they would still be unloading passengers. Then I am reading that she will be coming out of dry dock on Saturday with no passengers. Does anyone have a clue to what the correct answer might be? I would like to drop off my luggage by 10, then walk over to Fisherman's Wharf. We do have to be onboard by 2 PM. Renee

Plus if they were, wouldn't be done in ten days. Things can always change but I don't think so. I think that info is correct. The Golden's Piazza is essentially identical to the Star's and Princess don't revise the Star's Piazza to include Alfredo's even though they did on the Grand before and the Sapphire after. The main difference is that the Star already had a revised Piazza with an IC and Vines while the other two ships didn't, Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
