18 year old high school senior in teen club?

Recommended Posts

We will be on the Freedom in August and my 17 year old son is bringing his best friend with us. He will turn 18 about two weeks before the cruise and is still in high school. Will he be allowed in the teen club? Has anyone had any experience with this before and what did you do?

Thanks

I am in the same situation as you, my son is 18. On paper the answer is no, but I emailed customer service and they said they don't see any reason why he wouldn't be allowed. Just head up as soon as you get onboard and ask.

I believe Jman1818, who is 18 and currently on Allure was going to try this. They get back tomorrow, so we will find out then.

Know sure how the teen clubs differ on Carnival vs. Royal but we've taken my nephew on 4 cruises with us. On two of them he was 18. On the longer cruise of the two when he was 18 I was able to sign him into Club O2. He was still technically in HS so we just had to show his school ID. Depending on the director they make a judgement call from how it appeared. From the way the director was speaking with me a lot of factors go into it such as how many kids are on board in that age range, etc.

18 to 20 is a tough age for young adults. The generally can not go in the teen clubs and the can not order alcohol. The good thing he is past the curfew age. be aware that most 18 year old can be served alcohol in ports in the Caribbean.

This happened to us on the Adventure. My daughter was 17 and her friend had just turned 18. Both were high school seniors. Once onboard we went to the teen center and asked if it was possible for the 18 to be allowed in there. They punched a hole in her seapass and told her she would not be allowed in the clubs at any time during the cruise as she was still considered a minor for this sailing. This was fine with her.

We are in the same situation. We will be on Allure in August, and taking my step daugther and her friend. Both just graduated HS. My SD will be just a few weeks shy of 18, but her friend is already 19. Hopefully, they will still have fun!

I just remember my DD saying that she saw people "snuck" in the back door of Fuel on Freedom of the Seas, that could not get in because they were 18.

Whatever kids are kids, let them have supervised fun.

Safe travels

Sue and crew

I seriously don't understand why not being able to drink alcohol puts such a serious damper on one's cruise. They can do anything a 21 year old can do except drink. Is alcohol that important? Heck, I came down with strep throat on cruise and couldn't drink any alcohol and I'm sure there are pregnant women cruising who can't drink either. A grat time can still be had.

To the OP, if you bring proof that the 18 year old is still in high school, you have a good chance of having his age changed for the cruise. That means no casino and no club after 10 pm and adhering to curfew.

Reverse question. My 17 year old is in university and wonders is she will be allowed into the 18 and older venues.

That is extremely unlikely--I have never seen it allowed.

That said--there are not many places restriced to 18 and up, on most ships (not counting the Oasis class-I have no idea about those) there is just one night club and the casino that would be "out" for a 17 year old.

Has anyone had experience of this lately sailing from Southampton?

My children are great friends and love doing everything together on holiday but this time my daughter will be 18 (in fact not far off 19) but would far rather be hanging out with her 16 year old brother than us!

Who do I need to speak to when we are onboard to clarify this. I think there might be a lot of teens on the ship as the Scottish schools have broken up and the English high school exams are over so I am a bit dubious.

She isn't fussed about drinking so would happily have her card stamped.

I was just on Enchantment a couple of weeks ago with 18yo DS and he was absolutely not allowed in Fuel, the teen club, or allowed to participate in any teen (12-17) activities.

I was referred to the schedule of "multiple daily gatherings for his age group" in the Compass. Virtually every one was in a bar or lounge, totally unhosted, with no designated area for the 18-20s.

I could rant on and on about this but I'll contain myself. ;)

Now, my son had not *just* turned 18 and he looks even older than that, so those factors may have had something to do with his not being allowed in the teen club.

Hopefully, an exception will be made for your son's friend! :)

I've got just the opposite situation. I'm about to leave on the Allure with two new HS graduates that both just turned 18. My son never really cared for the 'teen clubs' on the ships. It was definitely not his thing. This time around, he and his best friend can go into anything on the ship! He is beyond excited as he was never allowed to do this before. I have to chuckle though, on our last two cruises with just our son, his sea pass was never punched and we never caught it. We realized it long after we were home. :p

We were on Oasis in March. My daughter was 17, and her friend turned 18 the week before we left. Long story....short....She was denied access to the teen club. We spent two days trying to get someone to make an exception, and talked to many different supervisors......no luck. I understand that the rules are the rules.....and I respect that. We told our daughter before the cruise that this may happen, and that she had better have a plan "B" in mind. Well........The situation really put a damper on the cruise for the girls. Being a Father of two teenage girls though, I've learned that no matter where you go, or what you do. They alway seem to find some sort of DRAMA....!

I will be cruising with my two DDs aged 15 and 13. The elder looks 18. (nightmare) and attracts the attention of boys.......

I would not want any 18 year old "boys" going in the teen club with them. We are talking adults here! They would need to be CRB checked IMO. I don't think RCI are likely to ask or monitor that!

I appreciate that different teens have different maturity levels but at 18 you do not need to be hanging out with 13 year olds.......

It might prove vacation problems but they need to be overcome!

We had overheard an 18 being denied and they said that although RC groups them 12-14&15-17 the groups are often together and parents of girls 12-14 are happy with 18 yo(men) socializing with their young daughters. Having a daughter I can see that side of it too. I wish they some hosted organized activities for this age group.

For Royal Caribbean I asked my cruise travel agent they said to get into the teens club for 18 year olds you need to ask the purser at the guest services and if they say yes you need to sign a form and your key card to be holed :) so you won't be able to drink or go into the casino.

They absolutely should not allow 18 year olds in the teen club, for purely legal reasons. I know that a kid who turned 18 last week is no different than his 17 year old friend, but legally, he's an adult. Let's say an 18 yo boy with bad intentions goes into the teen club under teh reasoning that he wants to go with his 17 yo friend. Let's say 18 yo hooks up with a 15 year old girl. Only bad things can follow.:o

Sure, it sucks for a pair of friends when one is 17 and one just turned 18. But as the mother of a 17 yo, I would not want him in the teen club once he turns 18, he'd be an adult, let him act like one. The 18 yo needs to be prepared NOT to be admitted to the teen club. Let the 18 and 17 yos hang out someplace else.

And FYI, if I were on a cruise and found out there were 18 yo's in the teen club, I would be a huge hater and get the crew reamed out for such a poor decision. ;)
