reallyitsmema Posted July 23, 2013 #26 Share Posted July 23, 2013 For Royal Caribbean I asked my cruise travel agent they said to get into the teens club for 18 year olds you need to ask the purser at the guest services and if they say yes you need to sign a form and your key card to be holed :) so you won't be able to drink or go into the casino. Your travel agent is wrong, you need to talk to the staff of the teen area and see what they say. At 18, you can't drink on the ship anyway unless you are sailing from a non-US port. mommyloonscruiser62 Posted July 23, 2013 #28 Share Posted July 23, 2013 We went on the Allure last year during Spring Break. My daughter was 18. She had a friend on the cruise who was 17 so of course she wanted to hang out with her. We asked if she could go to the under 18 club they said no because of legal reasons. They wouldn't budge. It could also depend on the person you ask. Good Luck.

reallyitsmema Posted July 23, 2013 #31 Share Posted July 23, 2013 who should i ask to go to the teens club ???? I did this last year and it worked :) You asked on this thread, this year. You say you are 18 this year. At 17 last year, you wouldn't have needed to ask to get in the teen area.

pam_1024 Posted July 23, 2013 #33 Share Posted July 23, 2013 We were on Freedom in May. My 16 yo son spent most of his time in the teen club. There was an 18 yo that tried to go, and was told absolutely not. No exceptions. I totally understand why.
Newtoncruise Posted July 23, 2013 #34 Share Posted July 23, 2013 Really? There are lots of ships that sail from US ports every week. Agreed. But more sail from all other ports around the world. The post inferred that most sailings were US based.

Sorry but look at it this way At 18, you can drink on the ship anyway unless you are sailing from a US port.. ..that infers that more ports are non US Therefore your original post infers that most sailings are US based. gerif Posted July 23, 2013 #37 Share Posted July 23, 2013 The information actually was given to him by Royal Carribbean itself and he is sailing from Europe Ah, customer service. Alas, most have never even been on a cruise. Call three times and you will get three different answers. I'd get it in writing and even then you could be disappointed. renaibr Posted July 23, 2013 #39 Share Posted July 23, 2013 we sailed on Enchantment last summer with our DD 17 and DS 18. He was not allowed into the club. Dd said there were bouncers and her card was scanned at night especially the formal nights before she entered FUEL There is nothing organized planned for the 18-20 year olds on the ship. It is very disappointing and my son spent a lot of time by himself or with me and DH. Not what he really wanted out of the vacation :-)
PhoenixDawgCruising Posted July 23, 2013 #40 Share Posted July 23, 2013 This brings me to one of my pet peeves around here, parents constantly complaining that Little Susie is 4 and her brother Little Johnny is 7, but the parents don't understand why they can't be in an AO group together, even though the groups are divided as 4-6 year olds, and 7-9 year olds. Well, here's why. If you put the 7 yo in with the 4-6 yos, he might be happy being with his sister, but what about the other 30 kids in the group? If you put the little one with bigger ones, she will be in the way, and the other, non-family-member kids will resent the presence of a 'baby' in their 7-9 yo group. She also might get run over by kids that are way bigger than she is. Not safe. If you put the 7 yo in with the 4-6 yo, he will be bored, plus he will be bigger/stronger/faster than the 4-6 yos and therefore whatever activitiy they are doing, 'won't be fair'. He also may squish a 4 yo by accident. Also not safe. Again, fine for his sister, not fine for the other 20 kids. My point: asking the 18 yo to be allowed into a 17 and under club is THE SAME THING. There are rules, just follow them, and stop thinking that YOUR LITTLE ANGEL should be the exception. If everyone believes their child to be THE EXCEPTION, then there goes THE RULE. I get so bored every time I'm on a cruise dropping off my 8 yo at AO, there's some annyoing parent trying to talk ther child into a group above or below it's age. The answer is almost always NO, all you are doing is stressing out the crew at AO, AAND getting in the way of us parents who are happy to follow the rules and are just trying to drop off a kid so we can go have an hour in the casino!! Just do what your told.;)

Jman1118 Posted July 23, 2013 #44 Share Posted July 23, 2013 I am in the same situation as you, my son is 18. On paper the answer is no, but I emailed customer service and they said they don't see any reason why he wouldn't be allowed. Just head up as soon as you get onboard and ask. I believe Jman1818, who is 18 and currently on Allure was going to try this. They get back tomorrow, so we will find out then. As you probably found out by now (wow that cruise was over a year ago), it didn't work. They scanned my SeaPass and I was given the boot. However I still made friends in the main club which was much better and filled with people my age. Hi - We are going on our 1st cruise on Sunday - Allure Western. My son is 19 and my daughter is 17. Thank yuo Your son would not be allowed in the teen club, but would be allowed in the main adult club. As for your daughter, she would not be allowed in the main club as SeaPass cards are scanned for every person. I tried to get around this system with no luck on my cruise back in 2012. Steeler Nation At Sea Posted July 24, 2013 #45 Share Posted July 24, 2013 They absolutely should not allow 18 year olds in the teen club, for purely legal reasons. I know that a kid who turned 18 last week is no different than his 17 year old friend, but legally, he's an adult. Let's say an 18 yo boy with bad intentions goes into the teen club under teh reasoning that he wants to go with his 17 yo friend. Let's say 18 yo hooks up with a 15 year old girl. Only bad things can follow.:o I totally agree with you and am always amazed when people ask for the exception as I feel it's a benefit to the 18 year old to understand his adult legal status. A parent should arm the soon to be 18 year old with the knowledge that it's a game changer as far as consequences go. Especially when the kids are dating younger kids and remember to have this conversation even earlier if age of consent is lower in your state. I suppose on a ship it would be the country from which the ship is flagged? Idk. Even the most level headed teens need frequent reminders of consequences. They are wired to occasionally make errors in judgement after all.
