Doesn't look good... seems flood waters were at least 5 feet high for a time...

(Didn't Princess advise before the cruise not to park at Red Hook?)

Yes, they did. There were warnings for at least a couple of days not to park there. :( Of course, some people might have been on a B2B and didn't see the warnings.

As to the OP, with the severity of the damage reported at Red Hook, I'd make sure to advise my insurance company at to the possibility and see if I could rent a car.

Oh, dear! I hope you are able to work things out safely and quickly.

I have never driven to Red Hook so I can't remember -- is it surface parking or is there a garage?

The Caribbean Princess is planned to dock at the Manhattan dock on Friday. Is it near Red Hook? Is anyone near this area that could tell us if it looks at all possible?

Red Hook is in Brooklyn across a river from the east side of Manhattan Island.

The Manhattan dock is on the Hudson River on the west side of Manhattan.

They are not near each other.

I would seriously suggest you make plans for picking up a rental car in Manhattan on Friday, because the storm surge has probably destroyed everything parked at the Red Hook cruise port. Lower Manhattan is still without electricity, and the subway system is still shut down.

Have you already looked through this thread to see what others have said about that situation?

mmm, probably because that was about Irene in 2011? It sounds like it isn't the best place to park in Hurricane season though.

I hope everyone manages to relocate cars, and dock safely... no official word yet from the port authorities about Manhattan reopening... so fingers and toes crossed! :)

Framer - I'm afraid to tell, but it is bad news, confirmed - good news being that it didn't float into the harbor - probably banged up against other vehicles ... (from the other post - verbatium)

+1 NYCruise confirmed damages @ the Brooklyn Red Hook Pier - Sorry for the bad news, but at least you now know and will need to be prepared.

Get the police report, notify your insurance, contact & arrange for a tow, and get alternate transportation or someone to go meet you at the pier once you get back to NY.

Looking at the photo link above, most likely taken at the morning after the storm as sea waters began to recede as it's daylight, vehicles were likely in waters several feet deep or more, the carpets are ruined, electricals exposed to saltwater, etc. Access to the area is technically restricted now as it is Zone A in red.

Take a deep breath, yell & let it out - it's going to okay, it's not the end of the world. Our car was inside the underground garage in downtown Manhattan on 9/11/2001 only about 10 blocks away - covered in WTC dust and we couldn't even retrieve it until a week later - we survived.
