Lack of ship photographers appreciated.

We are currently aboard the Marina and are really happy we don't have to deal with ship's photographers.

Agreed.

OTOH, we noticed much more aggressive marketing of liquor on the current cruise than what we remember in the past, requiring us having to say "no, thank you" several times to different staff members back to back to back.

Not to mention the wine tasting, Tequila tasting and vodka tasting - all on the same afternoon (for a fee, of course).

Just got off Riviera's maiden TA which we did on Marina last year. Did not observe/notice ANY aggressive liquor marketing. They offer all tasting to those who want.

We've been sailing Oceania for several years. Love it for the informality of the cruise. No additional charge for alternative dining. No photographers. No announcements except the captain at noon and emergency ones. No art auctions. Jackets for dinner not required. All waters and sodas are included at no charge. The food! food! food! quality and choices especially the lobster, steak, lamb chops and sushi nightly at the Terrace Grill.

One couple was on the 58th cruise with Oceania. Several on 20 - 25 +. Us? Only tenth one but hope to be able to say "this is our 25th cruise".

I could go on and on but you all get the gist.

Here's to all our cruises!

I'm happy Oceania does not have photographers, but there are videographers in your face, just the same.

Wow! I missed those completely. Maybe it's because I seldom do a ship's excursion! Is that where they popped up, because I've never, even seen one on the ship!

They will tape the shows & some of the events ..if you do not want to appear on the camera just steer clear of them

It's not that easy. They don't exactly announce their presence.

We were actively involved in a guessing game onboard, and my husband nudged me and pointed out the videographer who was maybe a foot in front of me, filming me straight on. I had to ask him to please delete the footage, which he did, but I would have preferred to have been asked if it was OK first, which photographers usually do.

P.S. I won the guessing game. :)

They do video tape the shows like Newlywed game etc... to put on the CD they offer for sale at the end of the cruise

Entering into the games you are fair game for the camera ;)

Glad they deleted it for you

If you object to being photographed. I would direct your attention to Article 26 of the Contract of Carriage;

26. USE OF LIKENESS

Carrier has the exclusive right to use video and other visual/audio portrayals of You or Your likeness

taken during Your Cruise in any medium of any nature whatsoever for any purpose, including

advertising or promoting the services of Carrier without any compensation being paid to You. Any such

portrayal or likeness shall be the exclusive property of the Carrier.

*In case you are wondering, Cunard, HAL, Crystal, Celebrity, Seabourn, Silversea, Paul Gauguin, even La Ponant all use almost precisely the same wording.

Wow, we must stay out of the limelight. We've done 3 cruises for a total of 39 days on OCL and have never seen any videographers. Of course, in those 3 cruises we have yet to see a show or set foot in the casino. We did do trivia on the first cruise. We also do independent exploration or private tours in almost all of the ports we have visited. Had no idea they were doing this. Clueless hermits, I guess ....

I am most certainly the queen of clueless hermits, and I believe I racked up some records that others can't possibly beat - although I'm not necessarily saying I'm proud of them! On our wonderful Baltic trip in August on Marina, I:

1. Only went to the Grand Dining Room once, and that was for the lifeboat drill.

2. Never attended a single activity, the casino, or a show (although I wanted to at times - just too tired from playing tourist, which I must say I did exceptionally well!)

3. Didn't take a single O shore excursion

4. Didn't take a single art class (although I would have, had I not been off the ship so much, and/or tired once I got back on) or cooking class

5. Didn't go to tea once, use the pool or sauna, the Canyon Ranch Spa, or the internet cafe

6. Didn't buy a single drink.

What did I do, you ask? Or why pay so much for a nice cruise if you're not going to take advantage of all those wonderful things? I can't really answer that - and yet, I have to say that I had a really, really great time! Different strokes for different folks, I guess - and ruby, you DO sound a lot like me!

DH does not read CC but I had to read this one to him.

That's us with some very small exceptions. Hopefully

will do the same on the next b/b on Marnia.

...just because the lawyers insert that (for other carriers, too, as you pointed out), it does not mean that they are likely to force someone to appear in footage. As I mentioned, I requested the footage be deleted, and the nice videographer deleted it.

Still, I felt the closeness with which I was photographed (not in a crowd, as most people were photographed) but straight on and about a foot or two away from my face, to be intrusive (even sneaky), and would hope that this would not occur in the future.

The likelihood is that they thought I would be thrilled to be "the star" of the cruise DVD, as the social hostess and entertainment staff and we were getting along extremely well and having fun, so it was surely good-natured. Nevertheless, I think it would be preferable to find out how someone feels about having that kind of close-up footage ahead of time.

it is nice not to have those staff members in "your face" all the time...BTBH...I do miss the chance to have a semi pro pic taken on board once in awhie...somehow our own pics just don't quite match up!!!! :p LuAnn

We were on a cruise and had a small group photo taken which had been pre-arranged. You might be able to do the same for yourself. No idea the price, but you could check if you are interested.

Well, I have to chime in :)

The Rome to Rio was our 2nd Oceania cruise; we took the same ship (Marina) from Miami to Barcelona and escorted it back to the Western Hemisphere (Rome to Rio).

Two of our fellow cruisers - the wonderful Jan and Bill - insisted we join them for dinner in the Grand Dining Room for the first time. It was great, a great experience that we can say we did...but we went back to having every meal in either the Terrace Grill or the specialty restaurants (Red Ginger is my favorite).

2,3,4 and 5 - agreeed - except I did use the treadmill 11 times (and have iPhone pictures of the time i walked to prove it), and while I don't drink, Jody did her besr to drain them of champagne.

I tell people this voluntarily...so maybe I am a clueless voluntary hermit....or a voluntary clueless hermit, I don't know which is correct. I ate, I read, I relaxed, I worked (not yet retired and have to work to pay for my cruising habit)....and that is exactly what I wanted to do...

That is the neat thing about cruising...you can do as much or as little as you want....

We booked one more cruise while on board...so we still have 4 more planned with 2 under our belt.
