datone Posted January 4, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2013 Just saw on one of the online cruise company websites that there is an 11 night Pacific Dawn cruise leaving Brisbane on 12 February and visiting 6 South Pacific Ports. Prices are $688 inside twin and $745 oceanview twin. For anyone able to cruise then, this would have to be a great deal.

Kiwi Kruzer Posted January 5, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2013 With all this new competition we might start to see some NA style bargain cruises.Den Thats what I am hoping for. If you add up the number of ships , and then the number of passengers that comes to an awful lot , compared to our population. I started to add it all up once and got to over 20,000 And dont forget thats every night. The question then is... Where were all these people going before the cruise ships came along? Where they in fact going anywhere? If it was to land based holidays and resorts , then they must be hurting real bad and yet you dont see them reducing prices and having sales. If they are filling the cruise ships up every single night then the Gold Coast must surely be empty...of holiday makers.:D
Aussieflyer Posted January 5, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 5, 2013 It's only a bargain if it is what you would want to purchase anyway. If you (like me) are not a fan of P & O, it is not. You would need to be interested in a) the itinerary, b) the ship and c) the grade of cabin for it to be worth considering.

I started on P&O Australia and would have no problem cruising with them again if only they would change the "Same old same old" itineraries and not charge such a premium price for old ships with less facilities. If the competition heads away from our shore P&O wont be selling 11 night O/V twin share cruises for $60 pp per night I am sure! P&O never seem to send me specials by email? Princess do quite often and Carnival USA do almost daily? Den

karmac Posted January 5, 2013 #9 Share Posted January 5, 2013 I started on P&O Australia and would have no problem cruising with them again if only they would change the "Same old same old" itineraries ....... Den Unfortunately, due to our position in the world, that is not likely to happen without putting on much longer cruises and as they are family oriented, that isn't likely to happen either. The itinereries are really no different to the visiting ships sailing out of Oz. To really get something different, you need to fly somewhere first which adds a hell of a lot more to the cost. rkmw Posted January 5, 2013 #10 Share Posted January 5, 2013 my TA matched the price on the Jewel on the 18th feb and we got 11 nights for $600....doesnt really matter where its going as long as we are cruising, we dont get the benefits like princess but it goes towards our cruising history

I took a bus on Wednesday from the north of the Gold Coast to the Tweed Heads in NSW and only saw two vacancy signs on the way back. It was "No Vacancy" all the way, with the beaches full. icat2000 Posted January 5, 2013 #14 Share Posted January 5, 2013 Does that mean that solo is more than 200%? Yes. Much more when I checked. At the moment on that cruise. Cheapest solo price 2366 inside. Twin 1099
Aussieflyer Posted January 5, 2013 #15 Share Posted January 5, 2013 Yes. Much more when I checked. At the moment on that cruise. Cheapest solo price 2366 inside. Twin 1099 That's a bit rough - one would have hoped that single would have been double the twin price as it is filling one cabin. I have heard of this happening before though where there is a special (twin share) but if you want to pay single it is much more expensive. Kiwi_cruiser Posted January 5, 2013 #16 Share Posted January 5, 2013 To really get something different, you need to fly somewhere first which adds a hell of a lot more to the cost. Which is the problem us Kiwi cruises have :(, even if its just to Australia.
Armchair Cruiser Posted January 5, 2013 #17 Share Posted January 5, 2013 This is also true of those of us who live "out the back" a bit. There are car, plane & accommodation expenses before we step aboard. Not complaining though.

Aussieflyer Posted January 5, 2013 #20 Share Posted January 5, 2013 CC rules do not allow the naming of agents so unless OP can disguise it somehow you may need to keep looking
rugbypopsie Posted January 5, 2013 #21 Share Posted January 5, 2013 Mr Google is always helpful in finding cruise specials...and then make sure you get onto the mailing list for newsletters. Google "Australia cruise specialists" and you will get lots of companies to choose from...you can find out the ship and itinerary from P & O's website and then go looking for the specials. Good luck.
