How late can I add prepaid gratuities before cruise?

We are sailing on 3/23 and want to add the prepaid gratuities. When is the cutoff for doing this prior to the cruise?

I think you can do it up until 1 week or so.

All you are doing is giving yourself an OBC in the amount of the gratuities.

According to the Princess Cruises web site under the Gifts and Services section:

 

"Most items available through Gifts & Services may be purchased up until 72 hours prior to disembarkation, with the following exceptions:

 

Special Occasion Packages, Renewal of Vows Packages, Celebration Packages, Honeymoon /Anniversary Packages (these items must be purchased no later than 5 days prior to sailing). Additionally, flower orders for the Ocean Princess and Pacific Princess must be ordered at least 8 days prior to the sailing date as there is no florist onboard."

Princess' web site doesn't mention a time frame. I'd use ten days for a safe reference point.

Right. You are not actually pre-paying gratuities. All you're doing is sending yourself onboard credit in the amount of what the gratuities would be. Nothing is pre-paid. The gratuities are charged daily, as usual, and deducted from your onboard credit. You might as well send yourself OBC because that's what it is.

OP-There is an "item number" to order if you want to order and send a gift of prepaid gratuities in advance, either to yourself or someone else. But as Pam noted, it will just be a credit applied to the onboard account, so if you are giving this gift to yourself, you can easily apply credit to your account as late as after boarding by plunking down cash or a make a debit card transaction to your onboard account while onboard.

 

Advance purchase appears to have the 72 hour limit.

In that case, maybe Princess does allow people to get a gift for you while you are on the ship, up until that 72 hour deadline before the cruise is over.
