Rare Silver Spectre Posted February 22, 2013 Author #77 Share Posted February 22, 2013 And u are loving it...Right Mr Silver? :D Is it worse than our jaunt across the Bering Sea? Cheers Jennifer About the same Jennifer, but its being going on for 2 1/2 days now, and weather forecast for Hawaii is crap+++ luv & xxxxx's
Rare Silver Spectre Posted February 22, 2013 Author #78 Share Posted February 22, 2013 Hmmm...one day at sea from Fanning to Hilo? i didnt realize they were so close. What was the issue with the trash on Christmas Island? Do they just have nowhere to put it? Actually 2 1/2 sea days coz we cross the international dateline and have a repeat of Thursday. I think the islanders do not see trash in the same way as us spoilt westeners do.

Herman The Cat Posted February 22, 2013 #80 Share Posted February 22, 2013 Actually 2 1/2 sea days coz we cross the international dateline and have a repeat of Thursday. Hopefully it will improve by the time you get up to Maui and Oahu. Looks like there were storms and a high surf advisory in your neck of the woods (ocean). Rare Silver Spectre Posted February 23, 2013 Author #81 Share Posted February 23, 2013 Hilo today, and its mostly been heavy rain, some light rain and generally poor visibility. Hope there is enough visibility for the molten lava sail by this evening. Pleasant US immigration this morning, but no ESTA recognition so had to do the green card thing again, and we got blasted out of bed to go make the line at an unearthly time. Hope there is enough visibility for the molten lava sail by this evening. Let us know how the lava flow is! We'll be there just over 2 weeks from now. Just reserved a boat tour yesterday that will visit the lava flow; hoping for some nice sea entry! Every time I have been to Hilo it has been mostly rain! Rachel, that's what makes it so green, and it's great for the waterfalls!
Silver Sweethearts Posted February 24, 2013 #84 Share Posted February 24, 2013 If it is any consolation, we are sitting here (on Maui) right now under blue skies with scattered white clouds. The temperature this afternoon is in the mid-70's with only a slight breeze, so hope springs eternal for you.
Herman The Cat Posted February 24, 2013 #85 Share Posted February 24, 2013 Every time I have been to Hilo it has been mostly rain! I think Hilo is the third wettest city in the US. It gets about 125" of rain a year, versus the rest of Hawaii which gets about 20" of rain a year.

Just reserved a boat tour yesterday that will visit the lava flow; hoping for some nice sea entry! Rachel, that's what makes it so green, and it's great for the waterfalls! The lava flow was not right down to the ocean, so not as spectacular as is might have been. Only really visible for about an hour last night. Rare Silver Spectre Posted February 24, 2013 Author #87 Share Posted February 24, 2013 Kona today, and thankfully sunny, temps back to high twenties. Rare Silver Spectre Posted February 25, 2013 Author #88 Share Posted February 25, 2013 Today's fun was that a german speaking guest (swiss or german) left a german Playboy in the library for other guests to enjoy. One of the Int Hostesses saw it and was outraged, but could not bring herself to touch it. The other Int Hostess eventually came and took it away to be incinerated. Apparently SS could not ever be seen to having soft porn in the library, and yet they are happy to sting guests for $18 to watch an adult (XXX rated) movie. Pure hiprocisy. Wellseasoned Posted February 27, 2013 #89 Share Posted February 27, 2013 Darn, how come I never go to the library at the right time! The Hawaiian Islands have been lovely, fine weather except for the downpours at Hilo. I did get a few long distance night photos of the Kilauea lava flows into the sea, but quality is not great. Loved the Kona coast. Learned a lot of strange-sounding words and sampled the popular Hawaiian (and Monty Python) staple, SPAM, in the form of a Burger King Spam croissandwich. Brought back memories of my youth. Also loved Kauai. And the long Pearl Harbor and military base tour on Oahu was wonderful and sobering. Today, lovely Maui. Many whales visible from the anchored Spirit, and many more on whale-watching tour. We sail in in half an hour and see land again at L.A. after five sea days. One of our favorite entertainers, pianist Hyperion Knight, boarded yesterday and performs tonight, and the fun continues. Dieter Long distant views of Kilauea lava entering the sea at night. Grand Canyon of the Pacific, Wailea Canyon, on Kauai Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor and Battleship Missouri where Japanese surrender was signed in Tokyo harbor Whale at Lahaina, Maui

We look forward to seeing Debbie and you on board the Spirit fall crossing in November. Did hear from Paolo yesterday (he boards the Spirit March 20th). Rare Silver Spectre Posted February 27, 2013 Author #94 Share Posted February 27, 2013 Left Maui at full speed last night and headed into a rather nasty front, big swell and wind speeds of up to 30 knots. Those in the Silver Suites will have had a really bouncy night, definitely getting their money's worth on this voyage. Hyperion was on really good form last night and has now introduced Bohemian Rhapsody into his first show. Still pretty bumpy this morning but by tonight we should be through the worst. The deck BBQ in Honolulu went reasonably well, only a little light rain, the Artistes tried hard but apart from Krystal they just do not have it. Highlight of the evening was the mad Italian father of screaming Nico taking his child onto the show floor so he could try and trip Krystal up! Arrogance ++++
badgerdee Posted February 27, 2013 #95 Share Posted February 27, 2013 We are tentatively planning the San Francisco - Papeete Shadow sailing next year, which calls in at Hawaii for a number of days, so just love reading about your experiences and seeing your pics. Sounds like you're having a wonderful time, thanks for posting.
Rare Silver Spectre Posted February 28, 2013 Author #96 Share Posted February 28, 2013 Sunny this morning, but alas no pool or spa's. Rare Silver Spectre Posted March 2, 2013 Author #97 Share Posted March 2, 2013 Father of screaming Nico was seen in La Terrazza on an Informal night wearing a smelly T shirt and shorts from his day wear and bathroom slippers, and not one member of staff, including the MD, dared to ask him to leave and get dressed. I feel a complaint coming on.

I feel a complaint coming on. WHO IS HE? Someone suggested early he was SS staff. Why didn't someone complain at the time? Emtbsam Posted March 2, 2013 #100 Share Posted March 2, 2013 Has anyone looked at a passenger list to determine the surname of Nico's parents? Is he possibly related to the owner?
