The definitive Cheers program Thread

I got it on my last cruise only because I was sharing my cabin with a minor, which allowed me to purchase just one Cheers package. I enjoyed being able to get whatever I wanted and to try new things (some good, some bad). Most days I would have a latte, ice or blended coffee, Honest Tea, milkshake, something from Alchemy, and about 4 cocktails. So, I came out slightly ahead. I usually bring creamer and just grab coffee from Lido and then have 1-2 cocktails, so wouldn't buy it again.

On my last cruise which was completely AI I would probably have a couple of cocktails and 2 or 3 glasses of wine with my meal in the evenings. No alcohol during the day. I expect my consumption would not have paid for us to have bought a drinks package if one was available.

However the way this is marketed (you both have to have it regardless) and a few of the things that we should have been told about when booking (eg VAT).... I feel obliged to have a party. I can see me getting my monies worth on day 2 - sea day - but will definitely have more than it would have cost without going too mad the rest of the time. Cocktails are designed to put on weight not get you drunk!

I will certainly be using it to stock up with bottles of water for the room..... Is soda in cans or glass? Hopefully cans! :-) If only I liked coffee! That would rack the bill up if I did. lol

Some of your drinks sounded interesting..

Do different bars have different drinks?

If you're referring to mine, then yes. On the Sunshine, a number of bars have different options (Red Frog Rum Bar, Blue Iguana Tequila Bar, Red Frog Pub, and Alchemy Bar, to name a few). I made it a point to get to as many as possible -- we missed the Piano Bar and the Sports Bar, though. And we usually ask bartenders we frequent to recommend a drink -- hence the Twilight Zone on the last night. :)

When people have been quoting what they had with Cheers, eg. Bottled Water, Diet Coke.....wouldn't they be free anyway? or only if you have Cheers?

For mine, the soda would be covered under the bottomless bubbles package ... Not sure about the water. The only free beverages are lemonade, iced tea, and coffee on the Lido Deck.

Also milk and juices on Lido and in the MDR.

Ah, yes -- I forgot about the MDR, but I didn't see juice or milk on Lido (but, then again, I wasn't really looking).

Juice in the mornings at the drink stations. It is usually switched out by lunch. Milk is available going through the buffet lines in small cartons.

While reading the Cheers rules

I understand that non alcoholic drinks do not count towards your 15 limit

I understand there is a 5 minute wait between orders.

Does the 5 minute wait count with non alcoholic drinks also.

If I want to order a shot and a coke separate do I have to wait 5 minutes?

I had to wait five minutes at the coffee bar between non alcoholic drinks (coffee then vitamin water) and my roommate had to wait five minutes between a martini and a Sprite at the atrium bar on the triumph in April. I'd imagine this is the kind of thing that would vary from ship to ship and bartender to bartender.

I haven't seen this discussed.... I bought cheers program about 2 years ago for a cruise on the legend. We always cruise with big groups of people usually celebrating something and I always had problems trying to order drinks or shots for family members. I know you can't share and I wasn't trying to I would say can I get 1 jack and coke and 1 margarita for my mom who is standing next to me and I would say to just charge margarita to my sail and sign card...I had issues trying to do this at multiple bars on ships half the time they would just try and run my card 2 times and give me both for free but then that takes away from my drink count for the day. There were times where I would try to order a round of shots for 4-5 people and they wouldn't do it even though I was willing and offering to pay for the other shots and they wouldn't do it. Seems like they are turning away money anyone else expirenced this or have any advice maybe they have improved the process since last cruise

I think there was confusion when cheers first came out but its now written in the documentation so you should be ok

CHEERS! Q&A's

The following restrictions apply:

  • Guests must be 21 years or older to purchase and agree not to give to minors.
  • Each adult assigned to the same stateroom must purchase the program.
  • Guests must purchase the program for the entire cruise - this program is not offered on a per day basis.
  • CHEERS! is non-refundable; if the program is purchased prior to the cruise, it is refundable up to 11:59pm ET, the evening prior to the cruise departure.
  • Price adjustments (up or down) implemented on the day of sailing will replace any previously advertised price.
  • Only one alcoholic drink at a time may be ordered using CHEERS! - sharing is not permitted.
  • A double shot will count as 2 drinks.
  • Program allows for unlimited Zero-Proof beverages but only one beverage at a time may be ordered using CHEERS! - sharing is not permitted.
  • There is a 5 minute wait time between ordering drinks.
  • Guests may purchase a round of drinks for themselves and friends. One drink will count towards the CHEERS! program and the remaining drinks will be charged to the guest's Sail and Sign account.
  • Program allows for up to 15 alcoholic drinks per 24 hour period (6:00am-6:00am); once the limit is reached, the guest will not be served ANY additional alcoholic drinks.
  • Program only applicable for onboard purchases during regular operating hours.
  • All bottles and cans will be served opened
  • Carnival reserves the right to refuse service for any reason.
  • Applicable state and local taxes will be charged to the guest folio when this program is used within US waters. The tax is based on the state's tax structure and the cost of the individual drink purchased (not the daily program rate). For example: if the drink price is $5 and the tax is 10%, the guest's Sail & Sign card will be charged $0.50 for tax. This applies to all US ports (embarkation home ports and ports-of-call).
  • Due to state laws, we cannot sell CHEERS! until the second day of the cruise for voyages departing from our Texas, Alabama and New York home ports. Drinks purchased on the first day of the cruise will be charged to the guest's Sail & Sign card in the usual manner. When purchased on the second day of the cruise, guests are charged for the remaining days only (cruise duration less one day).
  • For those guests who pre-purchase CHEERS!, it will be activated upon boarding the ship (except for ships sailing from Galveston, Mobile and New York). Guests will receive a note in their stateroom advising them to go the bar to receive their sticker which is placed on their Sail & Sign card. In the event guests do not go to their stateroom, once the Sail & Sign card is swiped, it is flagged and the bartender will provide the sticker.
  • Group bookings (consisting of a minimum of 30 adults) can purchase CHEERS! prior to the cruise by contacting Group Event Planning (all adult guests in the group must purchase the program; all minors in the group must purchase Bottomless Bubbles program).
  • For pre-purchase orders, a message card will be placed in guests' staterooms on embarkation day with the following notation: "Please bring your Sail & Sign Card to the Casino Bar to activate this program". A sticker will be placed on the card for the use of the CHEERS! program. In the event guests do not go to their stateroom, once the Sail & Sign card is swiped, it is flagged and the bar staff will provide the sticker.

I read something on one of the Cheers threads but can't find it now, about the possibility of successfully purchasing once onboard for one person even when 2 are in the cabin because they really wanted to sell it so they just allowed it.

I kind of doubt it but i'm intrigued.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I drink, DH does not, he's the gambler.

Anyone know if they will serve me two drinks if I walk up with my and my DHs S&S card? Meaning, do both of us have to go to the bar every time we want a drink, or can one of us order with both cards? We had no problem doing this on RC, but have no experience with Cheers through Carnival.

We did not have a problem on the Triumph in April but only tried with bartenders that we had built up a rapport with. We also tipped on each drink. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.

I cruised RCCL last October with friends and we did their drink package....it was super easy to get our moneys worth and I am not a big drinker. I never got a buzz even...I would get a drink with a water and then maybe a couple of hours later another drink with a water...and I definitely got my 50/day worth.. Me and hubs plan to get CHEERS for our Nov. cruise...and I plan to find that $50 drink though... just saying.
