I think you can always go to the casino and you will get back 95% of the value you withdraw from your OBC, rather than possibly losing it. I don't go to the casino, so perhaps someone who does can verify this.

It depends on the type of OBC. If it is issued by the cruise line, you will not get any money back. It the OBC was directly from your TA, you should get the money back. Getting money from the casino cashier is a different issue. You can usually get OBC money from the casino.

It can be confusing - but I usually just go to the guest relations desk on the ship and check the codes for the OBC--

OBR is Onboard Credit refundable and OBN is onboard credit non-refundable.

OBC sometimes doesn't show up for three or four days.

we are "frugal"....bring our own wine, dont eat at specialty restaurants (MDR is fine with us) and the more i save the more i cruise....sooo, i really need to know if it is refundable so i can either buy stuff or whatever to use it all. never want anything left ! when we have OBC it goes to the daily charges.....since these are paid....it will be different.

As others have said, if it is Celebrity OBC, it is use or lose. If it is TA OBC, it will be refunded to your credit card.

Guest relations was very helpful when we questioned them about how they used up the credits and the refund policy. We had prepaid our gratuities due to select dining and had a large OBC that we did not entirely use. The non-refundable OBC was used first, then Celebrity issued a credit to our credit card for the unused refundable OBC.

What a pleasure having a credit balance at the end of a cruise - that certainly never happened before :)

MOney taken out from the casino is not cOnsidered a refund. It's considered using the mOney. It will cost 5%.

My father in law didn't use all his, and it was OBC-N according to the stateroom TV so he just went to the casino and withdrew it for a 5% surcharge.

If you do not wish to purchase pictures or go on an excursion through the ship, or treat yourself at the spa....how about a few days at the end of the cruise treating yourself to one of the non alcoholic specialty drink packages?

 

I have heard of this frugality over on the Carnival boards, but I never thought I would read it on these boards. :confused:

Don't let the negative remarks color your view of the vast majority of Celeb cruisers. The folks we've met on our cruises haven't come across at all like some do on the Celeb forum.

 

We are frugal cruisers, too! We each bring a bottle of wine aboard and have been fortunate to travel with SIL/BIL who also bring a bottle apiece aboard but aren't wine drinkers;):D! And I watch for price reductions like a hawk.

Hi Xeena ..... I can tell you a thing or two about the kind of posters here on CC who talk big about how much they tip because they are ever so generous and how much they spend because what is life for anyway ... when in reality they have either borrowed from the bank or have defaulted on their numerous credit cards and when it comes to tipping the waiters these same folks are the ones who don't even make eye contact with the staff because they are guilty of not paying the mandatory gratuity as outlined by the cruise line.

The ones who come across as big spenders on these boards criticizing others for not being like them are the ones who will ultimately cheat or default on their payments. Those of us who are frugal usually do the right thing and do the right thing to all concerned.

 

Bottom line ... don't ever believe the snobs on these boards, proven liars most of the time.

 

Frugality is good. It means you are disciplined and strict with yourself in an increasingly deceptive world.

Amazing how some people can know so much about others here. How do you get this information? Do the people email you and let you know the "real scoop" on them? Good grief. Yes, people make stuff up, and yes, some people really tip well, are well off, and are financially disciplined. You really can't take it with you. No need for nastiness.

TMLA alum....hi barb! it's pam !! and i merely asked a simple question about OBC when you have paid gratuities prior to sailing....usually our OBC goes to the "hotel daily charges". as we dont get photos, use ship excursions etc. nice to have a TMLAer defend another TMLA-er

 

thank you to the posters following TMLA as well....yes, my question was simple....never on celebrity before and due to dining request had to prepay gratutities....
