Concierge E-mails

Recommended Posts

When we were in Grand suites before we ALWAYS received an e-mail from our Concierge asking where we wanted to sit for dinner, if we needed any extra pillows, reservations for shows, etc.

We are leaving in 5 days (17 Mar 13) on the Freedom of the Seas and have not heard from our Concierge yet. Other CC members said they wouldn't write until a week before the cruise. We want to reserve a certain cabana on Labadee and would like to contact him.

When I contacted RCCL today they told me that the "Concierge Assistance" desk told them that e-mails are not standard practice and that CC members don't always report really what happened.

Really!!! My fellow CC members are lying to me to make me upset and I'm expected to not enjoy the ship when I board but run around looking for the concierge so that I can book items and get help.

Doesn't sound acceptable to me. If I'm paying at least half again for a GS and a Concierge is on of the benefits I should be able to contact him before boarding so that they know what I may want or need. Wouldn't one think so.

Has anybody else NOT been contacted by their Concierge or just wish to lie to me like the RCCL "help" desk folks told me???

You're too close to the cruise to wait, I'd send an email to the Concierge. The address is FR_Concierge@rccl.com.

Sending out emails are not standard practice. Some do and some don't. I'm probably at about 50/50 as far as receiving an email prior to the cruise.

Really! I have always received an e mail from the concierge. I notice that you have several 3 and 4 day cruises. Perhaps, e mails are not routinely sent out on the shorter sailings.

We sailed in an Owner's suite on AOS on Feb. 3, and the concierge, Silvia, did not contact us prior to our cruise. After seeing the chaotic scene each evening in the Concierge Lounge, what with overcrowding and appetizers routinely running out as well as an extremely difficult beverage service, we weren't surprised. Frankly, midway through the cruise, we simply had had enough and steered clear of the lounge at cocktail hour. What a disappointing experience.

Maybe I have no right to respond, having not yet sailed on RCI.:o But FWIW, when I booked my cruise on the Grandeur a few days ago (Grand Suite), the RCI "Brand Specialist" with whom I booked told me "the concierge will send you a 'welcome email' the week before your cruise."

Thanks for the inputs. We sailed on the Adventure the last two years and had great experiences with our Concierge. Wrote about a week ahead both times.

Just disappointing.

Clarea gave you the email address...EMAIL him/her! And let them know you wish to reserve a cabana.

I like your avatar. :D

I think that you are awfully wound up and knicker-bunched for someone who is about to vacation on a fabulous ship in a Grand Suite!

Relax.

Email the concierge as suggested.

Everything will be fine.

I did e-mail the Concierge two days ago after I found the e-mail address through Google. Still nothing. After being told different stories over the last week by different people on different calls and some of them telling me that I would get an e-mail a week before I don't feel that is being "Knicker-bunched". You're right, I'm going on vacation. That 's why I try to take care of all reservations, accomodations, etc before my vacation so that I can enjoy it instead of running around trying to make sure that I can reserve something that occurs in a week versus two days.

I should be standard practice. And as far as being in a GS.....I paid over half again the Junior Suite rate to get the amenities which include "Concierge service". Don't get me wrong...it will not ruin my vacation however, I think that it is a courtesy that should be extended to those who DO pay the extra $$ for a GS.

Your question was certainly reasonable. When sailing in such suites you pay a decent premium and should expect some consideration based on that. The one thing about cruise line consistently is that there is no such thing. You can experience one thing one week and it could be different next week. The concierge concept was initially great years ago then became a victim of it's own success. RCL instead of increasing size of lounge, adding staff, to accommodate increased pass numbers entitled to such amenities changed rules and cut back. Through years I found that how and what you are afforded is more influenced by the concierge's ability than anything else. One concierge would not let us take our drink glasses out to dinner. Checked around and reason was simple, she was so disliked by other staff she couldn't get replacements easily. She was miserable hence her service was miserable.

Please follow up on whether you hear from concierge. This will be our first time back to RCL in 6 years and 20 cruises later. We stopped sailing them over an concierge club issue. Have sailed Princess and others. We too inquired about reserving a cabana and were told for suite passengers we do that onboard. That their is a section and cabanas reserved for us already. We shall see, as cruiseaholics we know that whatever a cruise line says is just as often wrong as it is correct. We were also old the cabana was included with suite. I would not be shocked to find out otherwise but one can hope.

I will chime in that we too have always recieved one from different ships' Concieges - usually the week before departure. It was also a letter from the Concierge that notified us as well on a recent recent cruise of an upgrade from JS to GS.

Whomever told you this was obviously clueless. Just comparing the number of suites on the ship with the number of cabanas available would make it abundantly clear that there are not enough for every one in a suite. Also, I think the charge is $175-200 per cabana but might have increased recently. By no means are they included. I would email a week or so before the cruise.

For what it's worth, we never got an email from Carlos either. Never thought anything of it as I'm perfectly capable of making my own reservations. When we had difficulty getting a specialty restaurant reservation, he stepped right up and secured it. Consider the extra $$$ spent for the real estate not for a personal servant.
