Kruizefan Posted March 14, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 14, 2013 After three weeks of being ignored by Celebrity due to "maintenance" of our cruise on Century Feb 4, 2014 I´m going to lose my loyalty and confidence in Celebrity. That´s not the right way to deal with their paxes giving them no informations about dry dock, cancellation or whatever they have in mind. We could have booked air or hotel reservations already. In general I don´t like late cruise cancellations like X did with Millenium April 26, 2014, Silhouette Feb 2, 2014 and now may be Century Feb 4, 2014 as customers don´t have any secure plannings. Mr. Bayley, make sure that your deployment is reliable and inform your paxes about changes in time. Peter .

C 2 C Posted March 14, 2013 #3 Share Posted March 14, 2013 According to your signature, you are not loyal to any cruise line. That may be true about the OP but I'm also surprised by the number of cancellations. Not listed above is Constellation Jan 16, 2014 which was chartered after we booked it six weeks earlier. We were notified by email that our cruise had been canceled. It didn't affect my loyalty but it did make me question the competence of their deployment department and their commitment to passengers who are so easily cast aside without consideration of the potential impact on vacation planning. vermonter16 Posted March 14, 2013 #4 Share Posted March 14, 2013 RCL did this to us several years ago. Ship wound up going in drydock when we were supposed to sail. To their benefit, they notified us almost a year in advance and made good on what they offered us. Of course we had a great TA who actually 'dealt' with RCL but we were happy. The millenium cruise is over a year from now and Century 11 months? I had a cruise cancelled by NCL about a year in advance, which was not a problem, since they gave us OBC for the cancellation and I had not booked flights (how do you book a flight more than 330 days in advance? baldercash Posted March 14, 2013 #7 Share Posted March 14, 2013 My thoughts as well, how is a years notice in advance a late cancellation? They have just released some of these so who has put their lives on hold over these cancellations? I have heard of early boarding but showing up a year early is ridiculous. Peter another good reason to have trip insurance coverage .Although the insurance covers the cost of the trip ,we are in sympathy ,for any one who has set aside vacation time & made the commitment with their company for that time off .It makes it most difficult with some companies :o Cliff

I have heard of early boarding but showing up a year early is ridiculous. Travel insurance is bought and paid for within 15 days of booking to ensure coverage for existing conditions. Airfare bookings are often made 11 months in advance in order to capture limited frequent flyer seats. These costs are not insignificant, and often are not reimbursable. Any cruise cancellation less than 11 months before the scheduled date is a late cancellation, and yes, it does create serious impacts on many passengers. I had a cruise cancelled by NCL about a year in advance, which was not a problem, since they gave us OBC for the cancellation and I had not booked flights (how do you book a flight more than 330 days in advance? The Millennium cancellation is not in the "regular" run of canellations. It was a northern transpacific, a cruise run only once a year by Celebrity. The cancellation was not for essential dry-dock but as a charter. Being at the very end of the season, many people had booked a full two years in advance. For very many of those booked, if formed part of complex B2B2B and/or land tours and/or river cruise combinations - for many a "once in a lifetime trip". For two months it was clear that something was happening/being planned for the cruise BUT a number of people booked were assured by Celebrity representatives that, although there may be a partial charter of the ship, their reservations were safe. Finally, they were still taking bookings for shore excursions even AFTER the first people had been informed that the cruise was cancelled. I also wish people would stop posting that, because flights cannot be booked more than 330 days in advance, no one would have any financial loses. That is just not true. Our travel insurance for the cancelled Millennium cruise cost £1,892.20. Sue
Rare travelberlin Posted March 14, 2013 #11 Share Posted March 14, 2013 Late or early cancellations, I am surprised to learn how often Celebrity cancels a cruise. I would not like it either, specially those exotic itineraries like a transpacific.

Desertbelle Posted March 14, 2013 #16 Share Posted March 14, 2013 My advice is simple: If you don't like the possibility of Celebrity canceling a cruise a year in advance then stop booking with Celebrity. The best way to show a company displeasure with their services is to take your money and leave.

C 2 C Posted March 14, 2013 #18 Share Posted March 14, 2013 Thank you, perhaps I'll see you on a few Constellation cruises next winter. When Celebrity cancelled the one booking, we cancelled the other four back to backs as well. We'll move into a different Celebrity seaside condo with less likelihood to get chartered. Rare steamboats Posted March 15, 2013 #25 Share Posted March 15, 2013 Peter another good reason to have trip insurance coverage . Cliff, In Germany we don´t have your kind of trip insurance. We only do have a cancellation insurance which is covering the cancellation fees in case the passenger has to cancel the trip (but only for certain kind of reasons like being ill, death of a family member, pregnancy...). But if you have booked a cruise and flight separately and the cruise is cancelled by the cruise company our insurance won´t pay for the cancellation fee for the flight. According to German (and European) law the cruise company has to pay for extra expenses which occur due to the cancellation (that´s why they want you to cancel the cruise and not them). steamboats
