Splendor is almost "home"

We enjoyed our two cruises on the Splendor the past two years. It's a fine ship and a mostly friendly crew! Enjoy sailing on it out of New York!

We're going to miss her in California. The Miracle just isn't going to be a suitable replacement.. higher cabin costs, less cruises to Mexico... we got the short end of the deal here in CA on this trade.

One tip would be to avoid crossing the ship bow to stern on decks 3 & 4. Deck 5 is the main deck with all the photo stations, casino and activity and gets crowded.

Gold Pearl Dining is almost impossible to get to on decks 3 & 4 from front/mid ship. Use the all cabin decks (1, 2, 6 & 7) to cut across the ship in a straight line and that is the easiest way to get to the Gold Pearl dining room (5 works, but is crowded).. take hallways all the way to the back, then elevators or stairs to Gold Pearl on decks 3 & 4.

I just did the 15 Hawaii cruise right before the repositioning cruise. Anything you need to know...let me know.

Thanks! Do you know if they are doing Sushi at the Sushi bar or are they doing the Taste Bar thing? I've heard conflicting reports.

Also I've heard they have a Burrito bar. Where is it and did it replace the Mongolian Wok? I want both! ;)

See - this is the kind of thing people don't put in a review - but you need this info!

We're in an aft wrap on deck 6 so I'm hoping to get the Gold Pearl because it will be just a quick hop for us. On the Deck plans it looks like one or 2 decks go nearly bow to stern on the outside. Is that the case?

The Miracle is a great ship! Too bad they are not using her to do the kind of itineraries people are looking for. I've sailed twice on the Legend and once on the Miracle - I love the layout. It seems like everything is easy to get to. The aft pool is great. The music is not too loud. The servers are attentive and it's not too windy. We ate breakfast and lunch out there every day because it was a quick jump from the buffet. And both ships have this nice quiet little hideaway tucked into the bow.

Looking forward to the Splendor!

I agree with Kath. This is the main reason I am kind of "nervous" about the Splendor. Being used to Spirit class ships when you can get anywhere from any deck....we were on the Dream a few years ago and we were hopelessly lost all the time! :o We are also in an aft cabin, but on deck 8, so I guess we can just take the elevator down to the restaurant. One ?: is there any rhyme or reason as to what MDR you are assigned? We are doing ATD for the lst time this cruise and wonder if that is reserved for a specific MDR.

Sailed on Miracle 4x, the last time was just last month and I have to tell you, that is one GREAT SHIP! Sure going to miss her. If you have a chance to sale on her, take it. ;)

We were on deck 8 Aft for FIFTEEN days and I have to admit to getting lost a couple of times. It is great being aft, because you can go straight down to the dining room, but if you are not aft....you have to take elevators to deck 5...walk aft and take those elevators down.

Yes...deck 9 and 10 have outter walkways from fore to aft. Splendor does NOT have a mongolian wok.....burritto yes....sushi.....yes...taste of Nations...I do not recall seeing. Fish and Chips no....Rotisserie...yes.

We are forward on deck 2 close to the atrium on deck 3. We thought it would be convenient to walk up the stairs to the atrium lobby & bar. We have anytime dining in the black pearl dining room & were hoping we could walk up the stairs to the dining room entrance, assuming there's an entrance there. I hope we won't have to go all the way up to the 5th floor & walk back down.

The first year we were late dining and had the Gold Pearl dining room. Last year we did Anytime Dining and it was the Black Pearl. Just guessing from our experience Black Pearl is anytime dining? Black Pearl entrance is mid-ship Deck 3 Lobby by the glass elevators/atrium.

And if you're aft and have Gold Pearl, it's as easy as just hopping in the elevator and going down. If you're always on time, like us, you might find the area outside the elevator doors and the entrance to Gold Pearl packed with people waiting to get it and have a time squeezing into the crowd from the elevator.. so a couple minutes late might be better once they open the doors. :D

We loved ATD.. found a great team of waiters (Head waiter's name was Wii like the game system) and asked for his section each night. So if you get great service, ask for the team again when you go to the podium for seating. Wait time wasn't bad, maybe 15 minutes max on formal night around peak time for us.

And since you're in an aft cabin, you're best bet would be to either go to Deck 5 to commute across the ship or some of the cabin decks.. again, avoiding decks 3 and 4. Deck 9 Lido is always good of course, but can be crowded with people grazing.

I'll be on Splendor on the Jan 20, 2014 Florida/Bahamas sailing. It is a long way off but I look forward to the reviews and pics. I would like to know all of the services/bars/eateries/entertainment offered on this Splendor class ship.

Welcome to NYC Splendor!

We are going on the Splendor a few weeks before you, 19th December....can't wait to read reviews and see lots of photos from those who are sailing on her before me

BON VOYAGE to the Splendor NY Inaugural cruisers! Might be cold tomorrow, but by Sunday you should be able to sit out at the pool! Don't forget to tell us all about it when you get back. I'll be watching you sail out on the web cam!

A great spot to be is on deck 9 AFT. You have to walk completely thru the buffet room. There is a pool, two hot tubs, a bar, the Deli and other stuff. This is great because no one under 18 is allowed back there....AND you get the most beautiful views. If you are a smoker...just walk right up the stairs there to deck 10 (which over looks deck 9 Aft). There are tables and chairs where everyone hangs out.

Cool - sounds just like our favorite spot on the Miracle - thanks! Where are the ice cream stations - love the chocolate frozen yogurt!

I'm wondering about MDR assignments also. Black Pearl (will Jack Sparrow make an appearance :D ) - won't be as convenient for us, but the Golden Pearl looks like a winner. So agree about the ease of getting about on the Spirit class. I second the recommendation to sail the Miracle.

I do have a tip. I save the deck plan images, then I insert them into a Word document. You can fit 2 or 3 to a page if you adjust the margins and the images. I only save the main decks and the one where my cabin is. You can use the drawing tools to mark your cabin. I print them out and take them with me. They have saved me many times! I can't tell you how many times, I've had other people ask where I got them.

Now I have the ShipMate app for my iPod and it has all the deck plans - I'm good to go!

Me too! You'll be on before me - so let us know what you think! Give us all the good hints! Will the Whale Tail make it under the Verrazano? :p
