Is Godwin still onboard a Princess ship?

Yes, he was just on the Sapphire helping with the ship restart (he might still be there?).

Since the Princess restart, he has been jumping ship to ship helping/training the crew with Medallion issues.

Thank you LACruiser88. So happy to know he is still with Princess after all these years!

He is a great guy!  He will be a DRO

(Maitre'd) for his next contract.  Btw, he is heading to the Diamond next for their startup.

I thought I read somewhere on CC that Generoso retired?

Yes, Generoso retired during the shut down and is now living in Northern Italy with his wife.  He also spends a good part of the year in Thailand.

We were on several cruises with Godwin and Generoso and we always felt like

treasured guests when they were aboard.

If they read this, thank you for wonderful memories. Generoso, congratulations on a well-deserved retirement.

Godwin, we will watch the boards and make sure, if you are DRO again, to pick your ship. In the meantime, if you find yourself on the 28 day Tahiti voyage on the Crown, we would love to buy you a drink.

Thanks for verifying.  We will miss him, as I am sure others will too.

  • 1 year later...

Our first cruise was on Princess was in 1995 aboard the second Princess ship to carry the name Sun Princess. It was from Anchorage to Vancouver with four other couples. Our head waiter was a young Indian man by the name of Godwin. The service he provided was over the top. He would meet us each night at the entrance to the dining room and personally escort the ladies to our table.   He was one of the reasons we chose to continue cruising on Princess. Several years ago, I heard that Godwin was a Maître De in charge of training.  On February 28th we will board the new Sun Princess in Rome for the inaugural cruise to Barcelona.  What a surprise it would be if Godwin was on the new Sun Princess.

Godwin certainly made a very positive impression on us too when we started cruising with Princess many years ago. He's a real credit to the Princess family and we hope to run into him again onboard in the future.

To our surprise Godwin was on the February 28th sailing of the Sun Princess. He is now a member of the Cooperate Quality Control Team. Our first day onboard, we went to the Reserve Collection Dinning Room and mentioned Godwin's name. The Maitre d' picked up his phone and made a quick call to tell Godwin that some of his old friends were onboard. A few minutes later he came to the dinning room to greet us. Later, during a training session with other crew members, he related our story as an illustration of how important it was to make a good first impression on customers. What a neat experience!

Okay. This may be an extremely old thread but... Thanks for the post. This is an awesome story. Not only did you get to re-connect and let him know how much he impacted your cruising but you provided him with an amazing teaching tool to help enforce his stance on how treating the passengers as special people can cement their loyalty as lifelong cruisers for the line. It's a great story for you and a fantastic teaching moment for him. (Of course it is always great when someone remembers you for your excellent service and outstanding personality. I would imagine he got a good bit of personal satisfaction out of this in addition to the work benefit.)

We are also some of Godwin's cheerleaders!  He made EVERYONE on board feel special, and once he asked a question about you, your family, your preferences in the dining room, etc, he never forgot.  We may have only ran into him once a year but he always knew our names (pre Medallion), the type of table we liked, where we liked to sit in the dining room, and my allergy to milk products.

We first met Godwin on the Coral Princess in 2005.  We didn't see him again until 2010 on the Ruby Princess.  Like you said, he remembered us and asked about my father-in-law (who had been with us on the first cruise).

On every subsequent cruise we rank the dining room staff on a scale of "1 to Godwin".  So far, we've never met another Godwin.
