duct tape Posted August 15, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2013 Good morning. New crowd, new thread. Enjoyed Rosseau Girl and joe fromchicagp last segment. A good time was had by all. Left Southampton in a little drizzle but that's OK, we need local flavor. The ship is full again, 289. The folks who did not show for the boat drill were called out. Glad to see it. Arrived in St Malo this morning to warm, glorious sunshine. Out to La Dutchess Ann for some of that crusty bread and lobsters as we watch the world go by in this charming village. Most folks are off to Mont St Michelle. Already spotted daddyo.

Herman The Cat Posted August 15, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 15, 2013 DuctTape, glad to hear weathering is improving. I'm expecting hot weather once you get to Monte Carlo. Who do you suspect will be onboard on Aug. 26--I.e., CD, Captain, HD, maitre 'd and cruise consultant?
Emtbsam Posted August 15, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 15, 2013 Hi Duct Tape - Please say hi to Julie, the International Hostess, on board. She is the person who created the advanced French class that four of us took on the Norway cruise. What a treat! She was a first class instructor, and a delightful person also. I never expected to be doing doing homework on board a cruise, but the class was something I looked forward to on sea days! We hope to see her again, possibly on the charter next year. We hope Duct Tape's other half is feeling better soon.
duct tape Posted August 16, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted August 16, 2013 Emtbsam, Julie was thrilled to hear from you and sends her regards as well. Hermanthecat, most of mngmt will still be here when you board: capt Ritigliano, CD Davud Lawton boards, Gianni, HD, Jorge the maitre'd and Carl is CC. We are at sea on our way to Bordeaux. 16/62 degrees. Hope it warms up. Absolutely gorgeous, sunny, warm day in St Malo. Shellfish feast. Will let you know how well a Portuguese makes tartare later today!

duct tape Posted August 16, 2013 Author #12 Share Posted August 16, 2013 Will know in a few days. There are quite a few great restaurants in Monte Carlo. Depends on what you want and what you want to spend. Try Zagat and Trip Advisor.
Stumblefoot Posted August 16, 2013 #13 Share Posted August 16, 2013 Thanks for the lovely trip report duct tape. I look forward to reading your follow-up post about Bordeaux as we've never been. duct tape Posted August 17, 2013 Author #15 Share Posted August 17, 2013 Absolutely glorious day in Bordeaux. Warm enough in the AM to have a dip in the pool before walking around the city. The French really know how to "do" grand spaces. The architecture makes me smile and makes want to dress Belle Epoch style if it wasn't so hot (38)! Not a problem though since it was so chilly and damp last segment. Perfect luncheon at the Brasserie at the Grand Hotel. A side trip to a recommended fromagerie and we have dessert for the BBQ tonight. Large crowds having picnics on the lawn next to the ship. Happy. Paulchili Posted August 17, 2013 #16 Share Posted August 17, 2013 Sounds like all is well. Did you try any Livarot or St. Agur - my 2 favorites from France. If not and have a chance, give it a shot. Bon voyage.
duct tape Posted August 18, 2013 Author #17 Share Posted August 18, 2013 Yes, the Lev..., delicious, but we can get that at home. The quayside was extremely busy last night. I am sure the music on the deck from the BBQ drew some. Lots of families with lots of children, Skateboards, scooters, roller blades, bicycles, prams and WCs, even a hula hoop! A crowd formed at the foot of the gangway as if they were awaiting someone famous, Lots of pictures. Some of the crew even had "date night" picnics on the grass after work ended for the night. Tours off to St. Emilion and other vineyards today.
