Fort Lauderdale Day Passes instead of rooms?

There are lots of inquiries about Day Rooms in Fort Lauderdale but I can't seem to find any info on daypasses to hotels for pool use etc.

Does anyone know of any hotels that offer this?

I really think if someone would start a business catering to cruise passengers with late flights they could make a killing!!

We have pretty much done all we care to do sightseeing wise. Plus this trip will be a group of 8 of us. Makes it harder with luggage. We are flying Spirit and they don't have the ez luggage with Princess or that would make things a lot easier.

Really it's probably the day room that you want. Hotels will normally not let out day rooms until the morning that you return to port. That way they know how much space they have available.

With the day room you have a place for your luggage, full use of a room so you can change in to and out of swim suits or nap, and full use of all facilities of the hotel for less than the cost of an overnight room.

You can call the hotels that you might be interested in now and see if they do day rooms. They will usually have a rate that they can quote on the spot; they just can't take a reservation. Put the numbers on your cell phone and call from the ship when you dock.

Hope this helps,

Charlie

The issue with that is often that can be disruptive to the guests who stay at the hotel.

If I was staying at a hotel I wouldn't want a bunch of people using the pool, etc.

Just don't think it is worth the hassle for the hotel.

Most of the ports of calls have many hotels and resorts which offer day passes to guests. These are normally limited to a certain number of people. So with that in mind I thought possibly some of the resort hotels in Fort Lauderdale might offer this.

If anyone knows of a place I would appreciate the input.

Thanks Charlie but there are already numerous threads on this board with questions about dayrooms and the biggest response is you basically can't know for sure till you get off the ship and start calling. The airport does have luggage storage so at worst we would be inconvenienced by going there first. Since there seems to be no good answer about the dayroom (atleast for someone like me that like to plan far in advance) just thought the next best thing would be a day pass. There are numerous resorts at most any port that offers this for a fee of course, so was just trying to find out if anyone had found this type of service for a fee of course in Fort Lauderdale.

Since it appears that no one has done just a spa pass before, you might try a search of "ft lauderdale beach resorts". There are a number of resorts there. Start down the list and give them a call. Make sure that the charge includes storage of your luggage and use of a changing room.

Let us know if you find something.

When I have used a day room in FLL I have always found one on the first call.

That's encouraging but wish I knew where I would be going before I got on the ship. I am a planner and like to have my ducks in a row!!LOL

I fully understand. I like a plan. But sometimes I plan to be spontaneous:p

My favorite trips to Europe involved having a plane ticket over and back, a car reservation and a hotel reservation for the first and last nights. Everything in between was whatever and wherever.

If you have a list of 3 or 4 hotels I'll bet you have no problem getting a day room. How much time do you have to burn before your flight?

There are 8 of us and our flight doesn't leave till 8:30. Where in Fort Lauderdale did you have good luck on your first call?

I have this list

Renaissance is my favorite in the area and I have used them for a day room.

I don't know how well that will work with a group of 8. But I can really understand your desire to have something nailed down.

Like I said, put the numbers in your cell phone and call from the ship. You may want to call before the cruise also to see how they would handle 8 people.

Good Luck,

Charlie

An additional thought:

You will want to find out about shuttle service to the airport for that evening when you ask about day rooms.

Charlie

Thanks Charlie!! Makes me feel better. I am talking to a Charlie here, watching Charlie Sheen on Dr Oz and I have a cat name Charlie (she's a girl Charlie) so maybe 3's are telling me to go with the flow!!LOL

The 8 are all adults no kids so maybe that will help. We could do two room with 4. The day we will be doing this is Sunday November 24th so hopefully since its prior to Thanksgiving we will be able to find one on the list. Have never stayed at Renaissance before. The W is amazing for the pool. I don't see The Hard Rock Resort on the list. A couple of the men in our group are pretty heavy gamblers even thought it might be worth a try for them to call the casino host there and inquire about a dayroom or daypass.

I would certainly try that!

The list you linked to was those that have shuttle service of some sort. W probably doesn't so is not on the list. I have the feeling that even the ones with shuttle service may not offer that with day rooms. But, it never hurts to ask.

If we have 8 it's not going to be too bad anyway for a shuttle if we find one in a close proximity to the airport and cruise port. Our Cambria Suites actually includes roundtrip shuttle from cruise port so I will more then likely try them first since that's where we are staying our night before. Would rather have more of a resort style hotel so I may not try them.

Hi, gracie65.

I am in the same boat (figuratively speaking) as you :) But our cruise is New Years cruise, so we are talking the first Saturday in January 2014. I'm guessing it will be crazy-busy. And we do have a 9-year old. I got the same list you did, and am about to start calling them one by one, though it is far away and it is a very busy time for them, but like yourself, I like to have my stuff planned well ahead of time. ;)

Anyways, please do let us know how your search went :-)

And have fun on your cruise. :D

So, after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor (they were OK on average) I booked Rodeway Inn for a day room. We are basically going to need the room for 4-5 hours tops - to be able to take a shower, may be use the pool if weather permits, take a nap. It is a very busy time for them (first week in January) so I was so glad to be able to find something that cheap and that quickly. But after I got back here I saw all the negative reviews and I am now starting to freak out, was that a big mistake? One of the reviews (an older one though) said it took their shuttle 2 hours to come and get them :( Well, if they do this to us - there's no point for us to even get a room, because our flight leaves in the afternoon. What do you say, should I may be call them to tell them to come and get us BEFORE we get through customs (not AFTER)? Any other thoughts?

What about a ship's excursion instead that will deliver you to the airport in time for your flight (and you don't need to worry about your luggage)? The Everglades and the intra-coastal boat ride are popular.

I read many of the reviews on tripadvisor too. I haven't decided yet what to do but I did like the way hotel management addressed each review good and bad. That tells me they are working to make this work. The price is right for sure!!

You have to ask yourself what kind of fool waits two hours for a shuttle? Use a taxi.

The problem with day rooms is that South Florida is experiencing record breaking occupancy and they just don't have the rooms to let. It also overcrowds to the pools for guests.

To the OP, with 8 people, why don't you just split the cost of booking a traditional hotel where you would like to be? I would suggest The W Hotel. Even at $200 it is only $25 per person.

Usually max occupancy is 4-5 people per room not 8. Then I have the problem of early check-in. Love the W stayed there last year for 3 nights, but the ideal place for this group would be Hard Rock Resort. We have some that would love nothing better but to be able to gamble for a few more hours.

I think we are ok the time we are going in that it's more the off season. Unless we can figure out something better before then I think our best bet will be to start calling the list of hotels when we get into port that morning.

As many people come to these boards looking for something to do to kill time before flights (and our posters here represent what about 3-4% of total cruise passengers) someone in South FL should really start a business like many have in the ports.

If someone thought it made economic sense they would do this but you know I suspect it does not.

South Florida is not the Caribbean.

I know that when I stay at a hotel I really do not care for a bunch of people to be there for a few hours.

If it was so very profitable companies would do it but as I said I would not want a bunch of large groups staying for a few hours at the hotel I'm staying at. It tends to be loud and not what I want and I know I am not alone.

I'm not limiting this to dayrooms. Someone really should offer tours to have something besides the cruise lines tours as the only option. I know you can rent a car, we have gone that route too. I would rather have one more day not to have to worry about driving etc. I'm just looking at the dayroom option now because you can only go to The Everglades and The Mall so many times.

Hotel occupancy doesn't matter with your group. It only refers to the number of guests sleeping in the room for fire evacuation purposes.

Just book a double/double room for four at the Hard Rock. Some will gamble, some will hang out at the pool.

With early check in, you are allowed to use the hotel amenities.

Have you tried calling the Hard Rock and explaining your situation to them?

Cruisers are just a very small part of tourism in Fort Lauderdale. It would hurt hotels more than help them to offer day rooms when they are at peak occupancy. In off season, it doesn't matter.

Just sent The Hard Rock a email. Will see what they say. Said we were 4 couples where the men would love to have the time to gamble and the women to use the pool and spa. The spa actually had better prices then the ship!!LOL I asked if there was a way to book a dayroom or a regular room with a early check in. I know one of the men has to pull with a few hotels in Las Vegas but he has never been here. Too bad I know many times you can get these things going through the casino host.

I get what you are saying about the dayrooms. This really is just an option because we are tired of doing the other options. If however there was someone that picked you up at the port, had several places to take you throughout the day and dropped you at the airport later then1:00PM more like 5:00, we would probably go that route. Someone in the private tour industry is just really missing the boat so to speak!!LOL
