iheartbda Posted October 6, 2013 #3 Share Posted October 6, 2013 I wonder if Bermuda will open it's own casino now? The churches and residents are too opposed to gambling, it would be a long uphill battle. It took many, many years to aloow it just on the ships. The government plans to hold a referendum (exact details as yet unspecified) on the land-based casino issue.

Rare DragonOfTheSeas Posted October 9, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 9, 2013 I am glad they have decided to allow this. We sailed on the Explorer from Bayonne. We found that there was not that much to do at night. Yes, there were shows--but, shops and casino were closed. There is not that much to do at the Dockyard at night. key east Posted October 13, 2013 #7 Share Posted October 13, 2013 I think you will see more cruise options for Bermuda. Gambling will probably attract HAL back for seasonal cruises. Bermuda is also exploring additional port options on the Island.

njhorseman Posted December 16, 2013 #13 Share Posted December 16, 2013 (edited) Government has scrapped a promised referendum on gaming and will instead move ahead with gaming legislation...... http://www.royalgazette.com/article/20131213/NEWS/131219846 I'm not sure why you used the :( emoticon because this has no impact on gambling aboard cruise ships. That legislation was already enacted with little or no controversy attached to it, as I'm sure you know. The issue of gambling in land-based casinos, either free-standing or based in hotels is the far more controversial issue. njhorseman Posted December 20, 2013 #15 Share Posted December 20, 2013 Has this take. Effect yet? Gambling on the ship in Bermuda? Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app The law was passed near the end of the 2013 cruise season so there was no onboard gambling this year. There haven't been any announcements about when gambling will actually start, but the assumption is that gambling will commence in 2014. The first 2014 cruises arrive in Bermuda in April.
