MoyCoy Posted November 7, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 7, 2013 This is my first cruise with 5 consecutive sea days. Any suggestions on how to not get cabin fever, OR SHOULD I SAY SHIP FEVER? Anyone who as done this or similar itineraries- what does the cruise director normally plan to fill up 5 (Or more) sea days that are consecutive ? Does the schedule feel redundant after the 3rd day? Spend a lot of time at the bars and if you drink enough, you wouldn't know or remember the # of days at sea.

We're The Groupnors Posted November 7, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 7, 2013 We did the LA to Hawaii round trip in 2007, which included 4 days in a row at the start of the cruise, then another 4 in a row on the return trip. We never had a dull moment. We took full advantage of the gym, the lecture series on board, we read, napped, attended tastings, watched movies, hung out in the pools and whirlpools, and ate and drank to our hearts content. Truly, it was blissful! Some days there were so many choices of things to do we had to choose one over another. There are also lots of things to do that we didn't even try, such as bingo, trivia, dance classes, etc. Have a wonderful cruise.
rwr235 Posted November 7, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 7, 2013 Hi, Besides what has been listed above...expect: ** Beyond the Podium Lecture Series...ours highlighted Hawaiian Islands/Polynesians/Exploration etc of the Islands ** Hula Lessons ** Lei Making ** Smithsonian Lecture Series ** Oceans Ahead Series (Nautical navigation/knots/ship engineering etc) ** Arts/Crafts ** Wellness/Fitness Seminars ** and all the regular activities...casino games/cooking demonstrations/galley tours/officer vs guest games/dancing lessons/trivia/wine tastings/whiskey tastings...etc...etc or do nothing at all and enjoy the sea, sun and vast ocean vistas !! Just FYI, the hula and lei making sessions are extremely popular ! Enjoy Woody
Fouremco Posted November 7, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 7, 2013 Sounds wonderful! As much as we enjoy visiting ports, new and old, sea days are special.

We're The Groupnors Posted November 7, 2013 #9 Share Posted November 7, 2013 how rough have the seas been in the pacific ocean? For our crossing, the ocean was like glass both ways. However, the crew told us that the prior sailing was so rough even many of the crew were ill. So you just never know.
miched Posted November 8, 2013 #10 Share Posted November 8, 2013 Sea days are the best. Whatever you didn't get enough of on one day the next gives the opportunity to do it again. .🎅🎄
Cruise Junky Posted November 8, 2013 #11 Share Posted November 8, 2013 I have the Premium drink package for this trip next April. My personal goal is to make my way through the entire martini menu during those 5 sea days :)
Northern Aurora Posted November 8, 2013 #12 Share Posted November 8, 2013 MoyCoy: Are you on the Century for one of its Hawaii sailings? We did a RT out of San Diego on the Century in October, 2012, and I didn't meet anyone who was bored. "Hawaiian Ambassador" June was on board, and June and the other destination folks did a great job of organizing a wide variety of Hawaii themed activities. We left the Century last month (October 6th), and June boarded before the end of the Pacific Coastal Wine cruise so it appears that she once again will be on board for the Century Hawaii cruises. Rare MVPinBoynton Posted November 8, 2013 #13 Share Posted November 8, 2013 I had the same concerns; but ended up being quite pleased with all the sea days. I put copies of the Celebrity Today activity pages in my review; along with photos of some of the activities. You can see it on my review website at www.thepreismans.com. There was plenty to keep us occupied if we wanted to be.
Bfson Posted November 8, 2013 #14 Share Posted November 8, 2013 (edited) Mike, the tattered sails on the Star of India have nothing to do with a battle. They use them each year for their haunted ship attraction for Halloween. Edited November 8, 2013 by Bfson

I sailed the Solstice this September on a Pacific Coastal itin and rebooked for next September heading to Hawaii. Wow they will have a Hawaiian ambassador--interesting. wwcruisers Posted November 8, 2013 #19 Share Posted November 8, 2013 Thank You everyone for your replies! Very helpful:) If it's not too late to slip in with one more suggestion: get involved in your roll-call. Our 2012 round-trip to Hawaii had lots of sea days. Going over, we definitely enjoyed the enrichment lectures, lei-making classes, and hula lessons. But, coming back, we were pretty much on our own. Fortunately, our enthusiastic roll-callers had the days filled with cabin-crawls, slot-pulls, and even a mah-jong (sp?) tournament. We were definitely not bored! :D

June is fabulous. Not only did I enjoy the hula lessons and the lei making classes, June would give us information about the culture and history of Hawaii as "conversation" while she was teaching us. My gal pals and I took the hula lessons and one of the DHs took the ukelele lessons. We all had a recital for the rest of the passengers after our lessons were over. I had a sky suite so I threw a "graduation" party for the 6 of us on that awesomely huge veranda. One warning, June sells lots of shell and kakui nut beads and you really think you'll make them when you get home. Trust me, you won't. You might want to save your money. Mine have been sitting in the closet for a long time.:)

Anyone who as done this or similar itineraries- what does the cruise director normally plan to fill up 5 (Or more) sea days that are consecutive ? Does the schedule feel redundant after the 3rd day? I love sea days and did it once from LA and then again from SF. I love those days at sea. I usually get all caught up on my reading in the conservatory...and caught up with my gambling in the casino. Movies and lectures are also great ways to relax and get in the mood for more relaxing in Hawaii. Just of note, the first two days out and then last two days back -- probably kind of rough waters and can be kind of chilly.
