AnnaMiami Posted December 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 8, 2013 Sailing with a group of friends and family on the Reflection January 11th and my birthday is the last night of the cruise, Friday. Everyone wants to do Qsine one night and we are deciding between the first and last nights of the cruise, since those seem to be the least interesting menus in the MDR. Does Celebrity do something special for birthdays in the MDR or should we celebrate at Qsine if I want the "special celebration" feeling? TIA! SusieV Posted December 8, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 8, 2013 They bring a chocolate cake and sing happy birthday. Why not do both? Celebrate in the MDR and at Qsine :)
Janet987 Posted December 8, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 8, 2013 Agree both. You can ask for the cake in MDR any day you wish out of the seven. Just tell your waiter. Join our roll call too.

jcpc Posted December 8, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 8, 2013 On our September Summit sailing they did present the "Happy Birthday" cake that we requested in advance. However, there was no singing "Happy Birthday" anywhere in the dining room during the entire week. Not sure if this is now fleet-wide or just what occurred on our sailing. jelayne Posted December 8, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 8, 2013 Was on the Solstice in Oct and was told by Head Waiter that Celebrity had stopped singing Happy Birthday fleet wide. No singing on our 18 night cruise - yippee!

I agree no singing in the dining room. We were on Infinity's TA in Oct. I commented that there were no celebrations. Someone said they thought it was because of a law suite regarding Royalties for 'Happy Birthday.' An answer on C.C said the decision was fleet wide. It transpired that a couple had paid for gifts for their parents who were celebrating a big wedding anniversary on the TA. Nothing was delivered to their cabin. They didn't even know that these gifts had been ordered until after disembarkation.( I heard the phone conversation in the taxi to an hotel) It seems that people are having problems with the web site regarding this, so beware: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1953710 Edited December 8, 2013 by upwarduk
bighairtexan Posted December 9, 2013 #9 Share Posted December 9, 2013 I just celebrated my b/day last week on Reflection. I got nothing in the way of a cake (that's OK I didn't starve) and unless I told them when I walked in, being on Select kind of makes it difficult to coordinate. Unless they do it as on Princess. I had a "voucher" in my room and presented it to the person seating us as we walked into the MDR. However come to think of it, I never heard ONE single happy b/day sung to anyone in the MDR. Oceanview77 Posted December 9, 2013 #10 Share Posted December 9, 2013 I like the idea of a special cake but am glad there is no more singing. Hearing Happy Birthday sung 10 times a night for 7 days can become a bit much.
jackdiamond Posted December 9, 2013 #11 Share Posted December 9, 2013 Interestlngly, our last few cruises have been in Blu; hence, we were not aware that they were no longer singing "Happy Bursday" in the main dining room.

Hearing Happy Birthday sung 10 times a night for 7 days can become a bit much. We completely agree. On our last cruise it became totally rediculous. I think that Celebrity should sing, but not for each individual guest. I think they could before the end of the meal, make a general announcement and name the guests and sing one time or even not at all. It's just my thought on the matter. cruisegirl1 Posted December 9, 2013 #14 Share Posted December 9, 2013 We embark on my actual birthday later this month. My husband mentioned it to Celebrity and they asked if we wanted a “celebration” on that day, or the next which would be a formal night. I preferred the celebration on the actual birthday. I will be interesting to see if they do anything. We have Select dining this cruise so I am not sure if that makes it more difficulty for the staff to find those with celebration. Last cruise they gave us a small chocolate "anniversary" cake, but the cruise was nowhere near our anniversary date. We have no idea why is was delivered, but smiled and said, “Thank you". Wonder if they missed a couple who were actual celebrating? On previous cruises (on other lines) the concierge will often send a bottle of wine if you are sailing on the actual birthday or anniversary date – and not just having the celebration cruise. Regardless, we are happy to be on the ship and being on for my birthday is an added treat. M
