$50?

This year I only gave the room guy an extra $20 - but we were an easy room and did not make any requests. In the past when we had kids in the room with us we would tip more than 20 extra. But now the kids stay in the room next door with Nanie - not sure what she tips - she might not tip over the pre charged tips.

Waiters I didn't tip anything extra. They should have given me back my pre paid tips. I am such a picky eater I only went to one or two meals and just had a house salad, no dressing. Mostly I was in the WJ eating oatmeal or at the pool eating ice cream.

Bartenders I would tip an extra buck or two if they delivered a drink to me. If I go to the bar, they just get the standard.

$50 on top of the standard tip is quite generous. I usually tip my room steward $20 on boarding day and ask that ice be provided every day. They have been remarkably responsive and have always been very attentive to us. So I will usually give another $40 at the end of the cruise (7 day). I will also generally add $30 to $40 to the waiter depending on service. So if you are adding an extra $50 to the cabin attendant and $50 to the waiter, that is a very generous addition.

Is $50 each too much or about the right amount to tip my room stewart and waiters on top of autotip if I get good service? How much do you give for good service on top of autotip... I did a search on tipping... I couldn't find amounts!

I'm not sure they'd appreciate popcorn!

I typically tip them 20-40% extra sometimes over the course of the cruise. I don't feel obligated by any means. For example, on our last cruise we a special laundry request and I just left $5 with the note. Another time we asked for something from room service and the cabin attendant went way beyond what we'd requested so another $5 tip. Then we left extra at the end since the cruise was super special and he made us feel like royalty.

We had MTD, but ended up asking for the same waiter every night because we'd hit it off with him on the first night. Every night it got better and better. So we gave envelopes to the waiter and assistant and the hostess. They were worth it.

On other cruises we've just tipped what they require since we didn't feel extra effort.

We usually find one or two bar people who are great and get tipped extra.

For us it's about the experience. A few $$$ here and there really isn't too much for us to handle for such great memories!

For excellent service (which we've always received on RCL) I usually leave $100 extra for steward, $100 extra for waiter and $75 for assistant waiter. This is for our family of 4 in 2 cabins.

For mediocre to poor service (when we've sailed NCL) we left $0 extra. Can't remember what we did on Carnival where service was good but not over & above.

Obviously this is a personal decision.

I give between $20 - $50 for extra special service. Whether it be cabin steward, waiter, asst. waiter or favorite bar waiter. The most I ever gave extra was $100 to a particularly great Waiter but we were "extra" tipping for a family of 6.

If I just get adequate service then no extra. You know when you are getting the "extra" service that warrants an "extra" tip.

American's are very good tippers, lets face it. Ask anyone that works in service. If tips have been added on bill, most of the time on3,4,5,6,7 days I g1ve room steward $20 extra depends on service, sometimes only $10. $25 would be almost 100% for 7 days. Steward used to get 3.75 a day, I believe. Your room is not the only one they are cleaning. I stay in an inside room solo and pick up after myself. In the dining room MTD I do not see a lot of people extra tipping since they have been adding on tips to bill. We usually ask for the same window table each night, reserving on 1st night and if he/she takes care of us we tip the Maitre'd $20.00. All depends on service they have already been tipped "to insure proper" service?????? These guys appreciate anything extra.....each dollar is special. It is amazing the service we get by putting $2 on the table in the diamond lounge each time we walk in. We only have tonic water/soda we are not drinkers.

I also travel with a partner in the next room solo. We both tip waiter, steward and Maitre's the above.

I worked in service most of my life and I was always satisfied and expected 20%. Love more but never said a word if at least 20%. If the tip was added on I was really surprised for extra, moist people leaving extra were unaware that tip had been added or very generous.. Oh! leaving Monday "Liberty"and will be a solo balcony, we shall see.

Watch some of the You-tube videos posted by the worker and you will see there are not too many people tipping extra like this. Not even expected.

How ever they don't seem to expect it. Now you need to figure they are getting free room and board.

there is no way a steward would earn an additional $50 on your typical week long cruise unless you completely trash your room daily and make ridiculous demands of them.

same with your wait staff. maybe $20 for the steward and head waiter, $10 for the assistant waiter.

For those people leaving extra tips, did you pay your own prepaid tips or did they get paid by a TA as part of a deal.?

we always pre pay and don't use a TA at all. we also typically sail in suites so have the Concierge and bar steward in the lounge to factor in( now those guys tend to get $50 or more each but we make full use of their services)

We have not cruised since they began adding tips to the sea pass account. So, I am not sure what we will do. We have always budgeted cash for the envelopes and assume we will add to the suggested tip amounts. We usually just round up to the next even amount. For example, if suggested would be $15.70 we would make it a $20. If it was $23 we would probably go up to $30.

When we order room service we give $2 for coffee, $5 for a meal.

When we order bar drinks we add $1 per drink.

I think we are all different but we never tip ahead of time.

Since I'm in the service business...I always leave a big tip no matter what. I have been only on 2 cruises and our gratuities were prepaid. The service on liberty of the seas was absolutely exceptional....I did ask this question in my roll call the first time around and most did not believe in extra tips. Both cruises were 5 days. Room attendants (10$ per day). Waitstaff (20$ per night). Since my drinks were free in the casino and I always get a virgin piña colada I tip bar 5$ per drink. Room service (10$ bc they don't share with others). The smiles and like gazillion thank u (s) from them just made it all worth while and knock on wood I was able to provide that extra income for them. It's a personal choice.....anything u give is excellent though!

If its a very good room steward, I usually give double the recommended amount (automatic billed amount).

For waiter and assistant waiter, usually an extra $30 or 40 each.
