? cigar bar on Jewel of the Seas

I actually cancelled my Jewel cruise for May because of the new balcony smoking ban, and I was told there is not a cigar lounge on the Jewel. Fortunately Carnival still allows balcony smoking AND has a lounge.

There absolutely is a Cigar Bar on Jewel as dadroy's link shows; I have seen it and stood in it. Jewel is not due for her refurb until 2016 so there is no reason to think otherwise. However, I can see how the balcony smoking ban would make you change your plans, even though cigar smoking is not permitted on Royal's balconies anyway.

The Jewel does NOT have a dedicated cigar lounge, along the lines of Explorer. I'm personally not a fan of the arrangement the Jewel has, but if you know what to expect, it works.

The one positive note on the new smoking policy is I believe cigars are now allowed to be smoked in all designated outdoor smoking areas. That opens up a lot of new possibilities.

As others have already mentioned, the Hollywood Odyssey serves as a cigar bar at night after the CL or DL hours are over on Jewel. In my experience, the ventilation system in the room works very well because when we have been there during the cocktail hours for Diamonds or Diamond Plus, Pinnacle or Suite guests, I never caught even a whiff of leftover smoke. Until the Jewel is eventually revitalized there is no reason to believe that its use as a night time cigar bar is threatened.:)

So, as we are pre-packing and planning, I had a question. My previous experience on another cruise line is that the small pools were closed in port. Is this the same on the Jewel?

The pools are open while in port.

Curious why you resurrected this old thread regarding cigar smoking on Jewel to ask this question?

Enjoy your cruise!

Welcome to Cruise Critic. :D All the pools on Jewel will be open while you are in port. There is a kid's pool and small water slide within the Adventure Ocean complex. I don't know what the hours are on that one. :)

Sorry all. I thought I was on another thread when I asked this. Too many windows open and still new to moving around on this board. Thank you for the info though.

I was sneaking a peek at this thread because my husband also asked about smoking. He's not a regular. Will go months and then decide to have a cigar.

Thanks again.

To update you since the original post, there is no longer a place to have a cigar indoors on Jewel. With the new smoking policy effective 1/1/14 there is no balcony smoking permitted and no indoor smoking anywhere indoors except for designated smoking areas in the casino - which does not include cigars. The only outdoor smoking areas will be one side of the ship on the pool deck and typically the same side promenade deck. Cigars will only be permitted there.

The only ships with a dedicated indoor venue for cigars (which now are also frequented by cigarette smokers as well) are Voyager and Freedom class ships in the Connoisseur Club forward on deck 5.

BTW e-cigarettes are covered under the same policy as cigarettes.

Beginning this October, Carnival will be among the last of the cruise lines to ban smoking on balconies as well. There was a press release in July regarding this change.

Starting October 9, 2014, Carnival will no longer allow smoking on their balconies! :D:p

We were on Jewel a few weeks ago. They sell cigars in the evening at the sky bar and allow you to smoke them there. My experience was it was too windy to smoke there. My son and I smoked our cigars on deck 5 starboard. We could grab a drink at the Schooner or Champagne bar and down the stairs to deck 5. Was a nice location underneath the life boats. Enjoyed a cigar there several nights. Comfortable chairs and ashcans provided. An indoor venue would be nice. However I understand the reasoning. Except for the occasional cigar I am a nonsmoker.
