Hi all,

Providing our statement:

On Wednesday, January 29, 2014, as Celebrity Constellation was sailing back to Port Everglades, Florida, from Cozumel, Mexico, a crew member found a pair of shoes next to the railing on deck 10.

A review of the ship’s closed-circuit camera footage observed a person going overboard. The location of the ship at the time the person went overboard was marked on the ship’s Global Positioning System (GPS), and the ship notified the U.S. Coast Guard. The ship was advised by the Coast Guard that they would be assuming control of the search and the ship continued on its journey.

The person was identified as a 45-year-old male crew member from Indonesia who was serving as a cook onboard. Celebrity Cruises’ Care Team is providing support to the crew member’s family and friends, and our thoughts and prayers are with them.

Celebrity Constellation is sailing a four-night itinerary that departed Port Everglades, on January 25, with port calls to Key West, Florida; and Cozumel, Mexico.

From Coast Guard News :

"Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Seventh District command center received a report shortly after 10:30 a.m. from Celebrity Constellation of a crewmember who fell overboard at 2:27 a.m. during a cruise in the Caribbean Sea."

Sad that the poor man saw no other way out.

FYI "Celebrity Cruises" it is a 5 night cruise. The next cruise (1/30) is a 4 night cruise.

I hope that they find the guy QUICKLY !!!

How do you know it was a suicide? It stated fell or jumped so let's not jump to conclusions.

They left their shoes next to the railing, and as we know, to 'fall' off a ship is more than a bit difficult. About the only way to 'fall' overboard is to be very very drunk and climb up on a railing and fall off.

That leaves climbing up and jumping....or getting picked up and thrown over.

With that said, it's tough being away from family and in a very different environment. No matter what occurred, someone is lost and ship friends and family suffer.
