I was on the Maasdam when she was berthed next to the Behemoth. It was like a ferry next to an aircraft carrier.

LOL - we felt that way on the P'dam docked next to a Celebrity ship. :D

 

And the Maasdam on next to the Allure - we skeedadled fast once we saw their passengers were getting off :D

Copper, while I am sure the crew practices deploying the passenger lifeboats, do they practice the crew boats. They look like a different system?

Yes; drills with a deployed life raft take place regularly for crew; usually at the aft/Seaview pool. And yes, that is a completely different system

On those ships that are equipped with the emergency shute system, are they evey deployed and tested?

We've sailed on the Oasis and the Allure. Both were great cruises.

My understanding is that the slide/chute system is similar to a commercial aircraft emergency door slide system. NCL Epic and the ships of the (Celebrity) Silhouette class have that. Although I have never seen it deployed, I'm sure, like the airlines, it is practiced

Anybody see Thebes? 3 Nice toots and some bonuses. Very nice but no match for Nieuw Amsterdam. Was great though that HAL started and ended the parade.
