What we love:

The food

Relaxed atmosphere with few children, few announcements

Excellent service

Great, classy ships

The martini bar!

What we don't like:

That we can't cruise more often

Prices seem to be increasing substantially

(I guess those two are one and the same):D

We like celebrity enough to call them our favorite cruise liner (and we've tried five). That said, Alaska is not one of their specialities.

Look at the differences in the itineraries between celebrity and HAL and Princess carefully before you book.

It's a shame that no one is responding - esp. since if you'd ask the opposite, there would probably be a page full! I don't see your tag line of what other brands you have tried which might help me focus my answer but at any rate - IMO Celebrity is very good value for their price. I appreciate the limited smoking policy, very limited announcements / sales pitches. Good service, good food in the MDR - we have eaten in some of the specialty restaurants but have decided the food is pleasing enough in the MDR, why spend the money - we are not gourmets but food is important in picking a cruise line / vacation destination.

The only time I feel crowded / part of the swarm is at the emergency drill on the first day - otherwise the ships seem spacious with nice choices of venues to hang out. We rarely go to any entertainment besides daytime trivia. We've met many fellow passengers that were pleasant to share meals with, some are now our travel companions. Itineraries have been pleasing to us.

We tried an assortment of other lines including Azamara and Oceania that are probably a bit more upscale. If they were equally priced with Celebrity, we might go there. But for the cost, our vote goes with X and hopefully there are more trips on their ships in our future.

so many things but if I had to pick one it would be tea time little finger sandwiches! After being on land during the day and usually missing lunch because we are busy, I really enjoy coming back for the little sandwiches as a hold over before dinner that night. There are still plenty of places to get something more substantial but the little sandwiches are just enough and always interesting.

Hummm... off the top of my head.... My favorites are their restrictive smoking policy, peaceful solarium, no crazy & loud pool contests, Blu (in aqua class) and limited announcements.

Not too much that I can think of right now on this one except for the lack of a wrap around promenade and higher cost of specialty restaurants (as opposed to some other lines).

What we LOVE about Celebrity

- The beauty and cleanliness of their ships. Especially the S-Class ships

- Ships never feel crowded

- Diverse yet refined passengers on the cruise

- Low amount of children

- Alcohol Package / Martini Bar

- Overall Service

- Food

What we LIKE about Celebrity

- No announcements every 15 minutes

- Production Shows

- Anyone who plays the piano (they always seem quite good)

- Itineraries

- Overall Embarkation / Disembarkation Process

What Celebrity Can Improve On?

- Booking Process / Information on Website

- Poolside Entertainment

- More Pool Butlers / Pool Servers

- Better distinction in amenities between Concierge Class / Balcony Room, etc.

When we travel, we hate to plan every day out. Some of the larger, newer ships such as Oasis of the Seas, etc. require you to get ticket reservations for shows, etc. This is not how I like to travel whether I'm on land or on the sea. Celebrity travel is very relaxing. As someone who works 7 days a week and am literally always on call, it is one of the best feelings in the world to not have to worry about a damn thing, to not have to worry about announcements telling me I "Bingo in 15 minutes" and to not have to worry about eating at a certain time (we always do Anytime Dining or Aqua).

You can't go wrong with Celebrity!

Based on 2 X cruises, 3 cruises on other lines...

Love:

strict smoking policy

great food

no annoying intercom messages all day

service on board

decor (doesn't scream CHEESY CRUISE SHIP all around you)

Less kids

Classical music (on 1st cruise only)

The type of person (typically) on X, we are 27 but are not the "spring break" type

Dressier, I love wearing floor length evening gowns

Don't like:

Prices, seem to be going up :(

lack of classical music (2nd cruise)

No intermezzo course on 2nd cruise (we like this special touch on formal)

Wish they did summer Caribbean cruises

If you are a non-smoker you will love the smoking policy on Celebrity. We also enjoy the quiet spots, an empty bar where you can sit and read during the day, the nice adults-only solarium, and the excellent food, especially in Blu and Bistro on 5. Live music on board is great with lots of variety. All in all it feels very "civilized"!

Thanks for your posts and to the OP for starting this thread. :) We are newbies to Celebrity but not to cruising. We are embarking on our first Celebrity cruise on the Eclipse in 22 days (soooo excited!!) and we were wondering what we were getting into. Some recent threads have been rather heated.:eek:

Although I’ve not sailed in a few years….. until I see differently ………

I’d say I love that X is “Mass-Market +” and I guess I can offer qualitative reasons:

*Many staff members that are gracious, and hospitable. From Butlers to Room Stewards to Omelette chefs.

*Decor is not “stuffy”, but it’s also not screaming “YO MTV RAPS’

*Menu items are a nice spectrum for most palates and by that I mean it’s not all “foo-foo-gourmet”, nor is it all pigs-in-a-blanket. One can get comfort foods, but also some more elegant or modern choices without buying $300 servings of caviar and such.

*The right butlers….are awesome. After sailing Regent, a supposed ‘lux’ line multiple times….X’s butlers are easily, easily so superior.

I’m on a mass-market cruise, but it feels a cut above that, is how I’d summarize it.

Celebrity Century was our first cruise ever, and she hooked us on cruise vacations!

What I love: When you first board the ship you are greeted with a friendly greeting and a cold drink(this sets the tone),the relaxed at your own pace atmosphere, classy feel to the ship, the staff, my children feel welcome, the smoking policy, the food(I don't have to cook it or clean up after it) and I get to try foods I normally wouldn't have an opportunity to try, I like the opportunity to participate in the formal nights or not.

I am sure there are more things I love about Celebrity Cruise Line and it will all come back to me in May. Our last two cruises were on RCL and enjoyed them very much and would return.

We are so looking forward to returning to the Summit.

Oh by the way the only thing I can think of that I don't like....getting off the ship at the end of the cruise..."what do you mean I have to leave"!

I just got off the ship (Reflection). First cruise on Celebrity. I liked the comfy beds/pillows, buffet layout and food, Persian Gardens, ship didn't feel crowded, and the huge private balcony (had the triple sized one). There weren't alot of announcements, but I'm not used used to lots of them anyway. There were lots of kids but it was spring break for alot of schools.

The band in the foyer was very loud but I only had to hear it when walking in the hallway. There were, though, some things that I didn't like as well as other cruise lines. All in all, it was a nice ship and vacation.

We have been on many cruises on different lines, and what I like the most about X is that I don't feel like I am in the middle of someone's "Frat Party" when I spend time on the lido deck.

We actually don't care for the specialty restaurants on X. We don't care for French cuisine very much, but I'm sure it is enjoyable if you care for that cuisine.

I like the fact that there aren't a lot of kids. That being said, if we were taking the whole family, I wouldn't sail on X because of that same reason.

I like the very limited smoking policy. I like being able to walk through the casino and not come out smelling like a chain smoker.

I like the more middle class demographic. (That may sound snotty, but it is true)

I will say that on every cruise line we have sailed on, we have found the staff to be wonderful. I think you get what you give, so we try to be pleasant to all the staff members, and they are very nice back.

I like the water and cool towels dockside when you are returning from your day ashore.

I have not been to Alaska, so I can't speak to those cruises. Whichever line you choose, I hope you have a wonderful time.

We love Celebrity for the Aqua Class cabin and amenities like Blu.

The selection of food.

Less cigarette smoke.

The relaxed and classy design of the ships

Great staff.

Diverse choice of ports to visit.

Fewer children.

The few children we saw were very well behaved.

Less announcements.

The late-night shows are truly for adults only.
